Flood his PM box with KOF vids.
Yea, a friend/teacher of mine took the Evo 2k9 finals and made a powerpoint style presentation of the different aspects of SF gameplay using parts of those vids as example while he was explaining the mechanics. Got a few people interested in SF afterwards (out of a class of mainly Strategy/RPG players)
Doing my part
Time to show those meltyarcana boys whats what.

ver 2 Megaupload link…
I dig it. Rockin the Ryo one.
Sign me up as a taker nilcam. I’ve got access to most SNK console releases, so I’ll see what I can do.
I’m in agreement with nilcam. 5 pages of opinions thrown back and forth is utterly amazing and just plain sad. I’m guilty of just watching and waiting for an SNK scene in the US to flourish; in hindsight, actually doing some small promoting or something when I was able to could’ve been useful. Props to guys like Dark Geese and anyone else who’s done something, ANYTHING to make it happen.
Considering now is a crunchtime for SNK and especially for SNK fans, let’s crank out some more suggestions, actions, or at least positive remarks for morale how about it? Following that ‘King of Fighters 13 Incoming’ thread for several months had me in awe the entire time. What SNK has attempted since they started production of 12/13 was a feat anyone could’ve told them wasn’t financially advisable, yet they did it, and put out a great graphical and game engine (agruably the best of this generation of 2D fighters). With how much work and listening to fans was put into 13, we should just assume that even with things like the console release and online play, they’re going to do everything right. And once the game releases, will a scene appear just like that? Maybe. Would it be better if SNK games were more hyped by other consumers/players for other consumers/players before the game even came out? Definitely. At least we can say we did our part.
I’m in Michigan (Detroit area) and am willing to try and get a ranbats going at a locale or two, including the Gameyard in Garden City. Any Michigan players who think they can make it, please confer with me, since I’m inexperienced with getting ranbats or tourneys going.
Let’s face it, the fighting game scene is back. For how long, who knows. I just know that at their peak in the 90’s, it wasn’t just Capcom or Namco pulling the weight like it seems, or is advertised to be today. Keeping SNK in the game/genre is integral. I doubt Street Fighter will ever grow without hearty competition around.
I think this is one of the first issues to address - everything starts from there. There were posts about “Meltybread/Dustloop-like SNK forums”, but that’s the problem - you need a MeltyBread/Dustloop-like KOF13 forum. (possibly with ONE other game like KOF2002UM.) All other SNK games get treated in a “Other Games / Off topic” sort of manner.
If you look at other fighting game franchises, once a new (hopefully better) game comes along, everyone moves on. Heck, Dustloop turned down an EVO spot because they didnt want to go back to BBCT. SNK sorta suffered here, since 98/02/XI were their best efforts and subsequent games didnt do so well. So KOF13 is the last hope.
In the AH3 thread I read about how the US scene for AH died, because of the poor AH2 port. So all it takes is one bad sequel to kill a scene - some people want to play the new game, get annoyed, give up. Other stay on the better old game, but this group gets smaller as people move on.
So, IF KOF13 IS GOOD ON BOTH ARCADES -AND- CONSOLES, then the last hope for the KOF community is to rally around that one game. Dont treat it like one of many SNK games. Forget SNK and pretend KOF13 is a singular game. The fighting game genre is so niche and already so fragmented, to further fragment things basically kills it. Sometimes you have to play a game you dont quite like as much, because that’s what you can get competition in. KOF fulfills a niche that isnt replaceable by BB or SF4 or Tekken - so anyone who wants to play KOF and not those games, need to congregate on one game (presumably kof13).
Having said that, is KOF13 going to be popular in Mexico and China and Asia? I thought one of the reasons the older KOFs are popular is because they are super cheap for arcade operators to run. We’re not going to see KOF13 machines replace all KOF98/02 machines across the world - is this going to be a problem?
Someone should buy the domain KOF13.com and centralize all (English language) resources; SRK, cyberfanatix, orochinagi, neogaf, neoempire, dustloop, neo-geo.com, etc, etc. While maintaining close relations to international communities.
Might seem confusing once KOF14 and KOF15 come out. Just saying.
I’ve been working on something since Friday. I’ll announce in the next few days.
im hoping itll be good then.
One of my favorite KOF sites back in the day was KOFonline.com. I don’t remember it having forums but it was visited a lot thanks to lots of info regarding machine locations, plot analyzes for ever year KOF and some really cool fan made art. I cried inside when it closed down.
man mines where paopaocafe and madmanscasfe back the days. damn its been that long already.
13 is already wildly popular in Japan right now some contacts of mine said they think 13 is sick and the most played KOFs in Japan right now are 13 and 2002 UM.
In Mexico as soon as they get it they are gonna play it of that you can rest assured, even in Argentina they are talking about playing it hardcore.
Availability is only PART of the reason why 98/02 are played around the world the most, a lot have stuff like KOFXI, NeoWave arcade (I got video of a arcade for NeoWave in Juarez), but everyone doesn’t play it, but I am sure that is something with the right nudge I can take care of. There are many still picking up 2002 UM in Mexico slowly but surely…
13 will be much better received, many in Mexico simply felt like Mr. KOF would say “KOF12 isn’t KOF.” Bata said the same thing, he felt that KOF12 isn’t KOF, and let’s face it guys to hardcore people it isn’t KOF, KOF 12 though I like it is KOF Lite for the SF4 players, it’s basically a Easy Mode KOF meshed with SF4 gameplay, very very noob friendly game, but still obvious to see who is an expert in the game, who is mid level, and who is not.
Oh yeah everyone Game of Death footage is up check Tournament Results thread…
also lets hope snkp patches the shit asap. and lets hope people will try and figure out all the bs possible, so it can get patched.
i would chip in upto a $100 out of my broke ass… if my local arcade would get the game… but i don’t think besides me anyone else in Toronto would chip in with me… if 15 of us could chip in… maybe we would have kofxiii in Toronto… but i only got honestly 1 other guy that’s probably 50% as interested as me here… the rest don’t care… just play T6, SSF4 & SC4… SAD
We’ve been playing KOFXII like mad in Minnesota mainly to prepare for 13, but wouldn’t 13 share the same speed, physics and low block stun that 12 has?
I’m keeping it simple so that it will be easy to use and easy to expand. The key to whether or not it succeeds will be the community. I have everything set up for 1 year just in case.
In a few days, I’ll announce it and unveil the URL here in order to get feedback from this group. Once I’m comfortable with it, I’ll index with Google and really start a push.
Well I just discovered there is Hwai Jai bug someone from Argentina just told me so hopefully people will discover it, if not I will post it up on my youtube channel.
Also I was just told that after around 750 hours of play Adel is available in the arcade.
Desmond- That’s what I thought too but that is NOT what everyone is saying from everywhere, game feels different, speed is different, combo linking is different it’s not even really comparable to 12 even.
Yeah that would be slick as hell, so that people will actually understand what’s going on. I know there are plenty of stock matches of pros. I was thinking that once people seen high level game play they would form a respect for kof but I dunno. I think your idea of commentary should be mandatory.
And good ol’ Scrick pumping out the awesome videos.
