Everyone, please help build the SNK (KOF) scene in the U.S. START NOW!

I understand, so it goes back to something I’ve said before, 13 is the last hope as of right now…but until 13 hits I ain’t gonna sit on my butt and do nothing, as I say I got places to travel and be, tournaments to run etc etc…then when 13 comes out I can promote it then etc etc.

I use Black Magic Video Recorder on my MacBook, and with this still you have to have some type of studio to mix and record channels/feeds. Me and Scott talked about this before, about the type of Microphones to record sound you need all that, it’s a job that people don’t appreciate, and so I understand even Scott’s frustration to a degree, a lot of work goes into mixing sound with audio with the feeds and you still got people griping/complaining.

Hence for me I say if I am going to do that type of production it is ONLY gonna be on stuff I feel is seriously worth it nothing more nothing less.

This is true, America is all about the glamour the wow the wham shizzam etc, and I’ve said it before guys, that’s a cultural thing. But in the meantime as I said I am not gonna focus on 13, sure I will watch videos and gather info etc etc, but until it hits consoles I got other things of more importance that need my undivided attention. AI is promoting KOF13 as are the other arcades that already have it.

When the time comes I am sure when me, Mexico and AI meet to throwdown that will promote the game itself!

See what I posted above Oscar.

@Phoenix Azure: yeah, focus will make things much easier. I keep hearing about those Melty Blood guys getting their community going and getting their game recognized, that’s one game. Same with BlazBlue. KOF13 is the way to go for the SNK crowd. Systems like drive cancels, hyper drive combos and Neomaxes have the potential for the wow factor written all over them.

As for the community, right on but again there is the danger of it dying a near guaranteed death. If you make a new one right now it will prolly just end up as another small pocket. Dunno, one way would be to wait and get things running with KOF13 and then set up a site with content that people will want to look at (like match vids and streams). Just putting up faqs won’t do. Gotta make it fancy, pick a good name and cool logo (so it can be stuck on match vids as well, builds on recognition).

@Answer: really appreciate the effort for direct feeds, can’t wait.

If you guys are just trying to get direct audio and video, all that’s needed is either a capturing card or usb peripheral. If you want to add in a separate mic for commentary or just arcade ambience then you’ll need a mixer, which doesn’t have to be big or high end at all for this purpose. The mixer will combine signals from both the game and the mic and will output to the card or usb peripheral so that when you’re capturing, both will be heard in the footage.

Either method does require video capturing software, though I’m sure that MacBooks have something built in. Regarding the equipment you use, you do get what you pay for and if you’re looking to retain a good amount of quality then I think you might have to drop a bill or more.

edit: also, I really would like to help out in the future for like ranbat or tourney footage. If anyone needs assistance in cleaning up the footage and adding overlays, player names, etc. I can deal.

Trust me we can certainly use that help, I know I can for sure, because after getting 300 matches for everyone I certainly am NOT going to want to edit each and everyone just for everyone’s viewing pleasure…Nope…I may do it JUST for Top 4/8 of each tournament nothing more nothing less.

Yo mezzo, youre in Norcal, we should throw down.

Def, we should one of these days. I know there are other heads up here that also play recent SNKP fighters, like Tone whom I met at Fanime this year. I’m sure we can figure out a midpoint between us and anyone else who might wanna jump in.

It’s good that you brought that up though, 'cause after all this is the sort of thing that should be encouraged among players that are local to each other. Plus, if you’re game isn’t online then you have to make do.

ok, can you guys point me to the required equipment on frys.com please? remember the taito board has vga output only. (acutally is a DVI out with a VGA adapter)

That’s something I was unsure of as well, but even if it’s VGA Fry’s should have the proper peripheral. I couldn’t really find anything with a quick pass through “VGA” search results at their site, but someone at Fry’s will definitely be able to help you. Just tell the guy what you’re using and what you’re trying to do. They don’t offer any little 2/4-channel mixers as far as I know, but I think you can actually get a decent one at Radioshack.

Sweet lord you guys post a lot.

Hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

I just want everyone to know I really hope this thread, our effort, and a good game (KOFXIII) can put us…the SNK community…in the lime light for once in the U.S (and continuing around the world).

Because that would be really cool.

Why there will never be a KOF scene in the US.

It is too hard. Until crouch jabbing into infinity is implemented SNK is going NOWHERE.

(Received after beating some guy in NGBC)

I’ll agree with what someone said earlier, that a weekly Ranbats meeting would be a good start. But problem is is trying to find enough people around your area to get together.

Also, a good forum would be a great idea.

You know I was thinking for once. What if someone made a video sort of like a combo video. Except, it would focus on the key aspects of KOF that separate it apart from other fighters. I know Dandy j made a terrific tutorial that contains these concepts, but what if a video was made that showed them being put to use in battle? Kind of like a slide display with different rounds being played by some of the best players. Something that shows off the potential of the characters as well as the strategy that is involved.

I can’t say for sure this is a good idea, but hopefully some of you might actually think it is.

I like this one

 1. Talk to arcade operators, have a free-play (happy hour) for non-players, people with significant knowledge and time investment in their preferred game are always reluctant to try other games. This could be seen as a long-term strategy to build user-base.

 2. Advertise in mainstream videogame stores, build awareness.

 3. Negotiate an SBO slot for KOF, East/West Qualifiers, send top 2, think that would help.

 4. KOF is cool. KOF players look better, dress better and get the girls. KOF is lifestyle.

It’s not a bad idea and can be made with stock footage from top player matches. I’m thinking something that brings up a key concept in Dandy’s KoF tutorial and then an example from a match. Another good idea is high level commentary of what’s going on. Especially intricate commentary, similar to rollisyourmother’s TVC videos.

 1. Is nice and all, but we gotta start somewhere where the games being played are consistent. Meaning I do not like it that SBO changes KOF games every year, that is NOT how you truly build anything consistent. So, for NOW, the focus for the WEST Qualifier is JuareZ WarZone 2011 for a spot in Duelling the KOF 2011 in Japan, but as I say people once again it goes back to the same thing I been talking about, I can set all this up, but it is UP TO YOU GUYS TO SHOW UP. I cannot make you show up, even for a trip to Japan should you win, for whatever excuse or whatever you wanna say, just remember that NONE of it matters if you don’t show up. Until you guys show up we are spinning our wheels as a community…and I don’t wanna say wasting our time because I won’t be wasting my time, I know there are those that will show up and those are the ones I am concerned with catering to…be it if they are American, from California/AI, Mexican, from Minnesota, Brazilian, Peruvian, or not.

And until you all start showing up to these tournaments (even the International ones), things will stay Status Quo…

the best way to support and create a scene is have one game that every player plays. even if one likes 11, or 98 or 2k2 or even crap games like 96, 99 or 94 they all should share the 1 kof game that everybody plays. and quite obviously, that games gotta be 13. untill 14 comes out, everybody should just support the best and newest kof. having small side tournaments for niche titles is nice and all, but ALL kof players should have 1 universal game.

in one way snkp fucked this shit up for themselves, mainly cause 12 could have been it. now if snkp truly supports kof 13 and takes out ALL the bugs and giltches, makes a port even better than the arcade with ALL the extras, yes even a good netcode. then i see no problem for people not liking THE kof, unless they obviously suck at it. even most st or sf3 players also play sf4, even if it aint as good as st or ts (opinion, not mine ts > all). in fact, even if the community doesnt support it there, the rest of the world probably will support it. who knows, maybe even the US.

some lol moments i had when reading this thread, snk not as good as sf and mk? wtf, mk is a shit title, always has been and will be. and mb being better than kof? yeah 94 or 96, not 98, shit not even 97.

1 last thing, if WE want snkp to succeed with this kof we need something more. a universal kof site where everybody can report ALL the problems 13 has, all glitches, bugs balaNCE ISSUES AND ALL THAT. AND DEMAND A GOOD NETCODE. caps. something like wiki, it doesnt even have to be anything special. something like wiki where people can report wtf is going on. and have a rating system for the comments just in case theres some of the wiki retards that post untrue shit. in fact, it should be snkp business to do this, not ours.

just my 2 cents, i aint got nothing close to a scene unless i go on vacation to turkey or further away. so a good netcode would do wonders for people like me who have no real competition in europe (playing my brothers every day becomes boring). the few players we got just aint enough, if we can get connections with mexico, us, china or korea shit would just be too fucking awesome. but this requires a netcode at leaST TWICE AS GOOD AS GGPO OR 2DF OR WHATEVER THE FUCK. caps.

I agree but as you said a lot of this falls on SNKP and they have just left us in the cold…so we gotta do what we can, and yes the main game everyone has to focus on is 13…esp with SF vs. Tekken and all this other stuff hitting bottom line is guys there has to be enough of a reason for people to play KOF13 or they are just gonna dabble in it like always and go play SF vs. Tekken, MvC3, Tekken 7, SSF4, 3s Online and other stuff that they already know. That’s the honest to God truth.

Thought you guys might get a laugh out of this. http://imgur.com/itqDE.png
