Everyone, please help build the SNK (KOF) scene in the U.S. START NOW!

Its sad. I like how damn near every other scene has there shit either together or somewhat together, and we’re all here STILL trying to find out how to get started. Shit like this makes me wanna consider playing MBAA or goin back to GG.

I love KOF, always have, just sucks when you don’t have a community to turn to for it. So i’ll say that im down for whatever as soon as some shit gets figured out.

@Desmond Delaghetto: I’m sure there’s a way to get that calendar up and running. I’ll just have to figure it out. Luckily, that’s the sort of thing I do in my career.

@Phoenix Azure: Good point. XIII will be the drawing factor and 2k2UM is also very important. We can fill in the rest after the fact.

I will spend some time this weekend figuring out how to do what needs to be done and getting everything together.

Now you see the shit me and my predecessors have had to deal with. Until people decide to put aside their personal differences and STOP acting like they can do soooo much better in this position, and START going to tournaments, doesn’t matter WHO is calling the shots, we are spinning our wheels. If someone is keen enough to step outside of their circle of influence then they will clearly see like the rest of us that THIS is the bigger problem. I know some people don’t have money am aware of that, but we still all need to work together even if that means helping those people out if they want the help, we bond as a community or as I say we aren’t going anywhere as a community; which is why I’m going somewhere either way, my car is moving, even if it’s moreso on international stuff, my car is moving, and I’d like to take a lot of you on for the ride, but the choice is YOURS…

How long of someone getting their foot stepped on before they just say the hell with something? (It’s happened not just to me but to my predecessors) As I say everyone needs to take a step back and determine if they are HELPING the community or HURTING the community, and if you are HURTING the community STOP, and START HELPING the community.

Gotta love Giby’s honesty, but trust me he means it in good will man…Giby’s a good guy.

I agree XIII and 2k2UM should be paramount, I would say 2k2UM and I will gladly help you with that Wiki because as I said there are no shortcuts in KOF. Esp since in 13 there are elements from 2k2UM such as BC/HyperDrive in it, and what is going to happen if they don’t understand that in 13? As I said before the tops or those that already got that down will be far far far ahead of everyone else because they know this from the other games…so learn it well while you got it now and you don’t REALLY gotta learn it again in KOFXIII.

If you are down for whatever then I pose the same thing I posed to Webster- Get a passport. Tell Tone to get one while he is at it, Tone went to NDP last year and while there were some “problems” with the tournament when things got going they got going and Tone had a blast! See that’s just El Paso you times everything by about 20-30 and that’s what you get when you cross into Mexico as far as overall skill level so it would behoove you to not give up on what you love, don’t sell out to the other games, be true to yourself, just know you really aren’t that far from the competition you seek even in California! (Plus you got AI) Come to the Mexican National in November (Yes that’s an invite) you and Tone both start saving up, get a passport and see how much it is worth your while! You’ll be glad you did so!

Agreed, 2k2UM goes right into XIII with the BC/HD stuff.

The problem is that there is no SNK equivalent of Daigo Chun-Li parry. Tons of players flock to that game thanks to that vid, as lame as that sounds.

Simply put there are almost no OMFG matches or moments out there for KOF, Garou etc. Even if there are they sure as heck are hidden well, which makes them worthless still. Even recently, look at the shit Daigo, Sako and Makoto pulled in the first to 10 wins Godsgarden tournament.

Like I see Dark Geese post matches often. At first I was excited because I figured there looked to be decent source of SNK match vids but then you look at them and the vast majority are a snoozefest, a rather one sided one at that. I know effort counts but come one. I’m not going to click through tons of links to find a decent match, a non-fan prolly won’t even click a second. Not trying to offend DG, just saying it how it is.

Attention should be put on creating champs, people that can put on a freaking show. Get some rivalries going, get people to care. Drama works. Show people cool shit.

We need stuff like this F1lwjljyDFA]YouTube - KOF XI 060920[4

I know people are thinking “b-b-b-ut… what have you done about it!” In a word, nothing. Which is pretty much the equivalent of what the efforts thus far have brought. A change of strategy is needed, not your usual set up a forum and whore it in your sig on other forums while crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.

Getting KOF13 on EVO would be great but even if you do what would, ultimately, be the point if the matches suck? People will prolly just skip it and wait for SF4 and MVC3. Like I don’t give two craps about Tatsunoku VS Capcom but that one player at EVO2010 had me glued (the one who used Batsu).

Ooooooooh yes there are.

Right, links with tons of views please. They gotta be well known.

You make an excellent point, but that is why I focus on international stuff. If you look at what you said you are talking about International stuff without even thinking about it.

Daigo doing the Chun Li parry was an International event at an International tournament.

Look at the stuff I’ve done this year and it’s caused quite a storm… for example JuareZ WarZone 2010, in the KOF scene that was the equivalent of the Daigo Chun Li parry, EVERYONE was talking about it, making excuses, it was a storm of people from not only SRK, but CX, and EVERYWHERE talking about it, AND STILL talking about it. Now sure it wasn’t the perfect tournament in retrospect as the first time that’s been done before (Hence the MADDDDDDDDDDDDD HYPE), sure things could’ve been done differently (you live you learn), but bottom line is that tournament was the shot heard around the SNK World…

Such a loud shot that it has opened sooo many doors to International countries/Tournaments, people now see I am the real deal, I am a man of my word, so for every International tournament more and more opportunities become present, so we are creating our own Olympics, so like I say my car is moving, I’d like to take you all on the ride with me so when the SNK OLYMPICS are complete, you all are READY TO DO BATTLE FOR THE USA…

My goal is bigger than the USA guys, my goal is to create a true World Championships, so as I said my car is moving either way…

This is itself is simply all Cali right here (Arcade Infinity):

These aren’t snoozefest types of matches but this is what you get when you throw international/high level play in the mix, and I know where to find this high level play, unfortunately though it’s centered really around Arcade Infinity,California and Mexico, which I can only control and do so much about…the rest is on everyone else…

So that is something I know is OUR KEY, international events with PRIMETIME players like Hummer, Buchecha, Salado, M’, Javier from Peru, Kula from Puebla, those are the people that will draw hype and people watching.

Trust me about the snoozefest I am well aware of this no offense taken, I know that’s how it is going to be 97.5% of the time if I am not playing against people from California or Mexico, I mean in these Geese Tower matches guys basically all I am doing is staying sharp, testing out new shit, and teaching people that’s really it.

If you wanna see the goods wait till an international tournament…

So basically our next “Daigo-Chun-Li” parry is in 3 weeks at All Versus 2010 with this guy of this level being present:

Qss9nu_rx_k&feature=related]YouTube - [KOF2K2 GGPO] AllStar-Peludo (MEX) VS Hummer (JAP) [3/4
VkmOrZIJB00&feature=related]YouTube - [KOF2K2 GGPO] All
Star-Peludo (MEX) VS Hummer (JAP) [4/4

Yeah we have Hummer being present at this tournament.

Thanks for posting vids.

That Noc/Giby match was the reason I played, and still play, Garou far more than I otherwise would have. But that got me interested while I was already interested and was bored with the other fighters I was playing. Would it get a person who hasn’t played Garou much, or better yet, a non-SNK fan, interested? Dunno.

Look at the vids you posted. Look at their views. Impressive? Yes. Popular? F no.

I know about MVC2, I don’t give a crap about MVC2, but I still know about Justin’s comeback moment. It got me interested enough to watch the finals at evo, hoping something similar would happen.

People have short attention spans and you gotta catch their attention.

Your international argument is good but lame at the same time, an excuse. The current ongoing GG SF4tournament is a Japan tournament, not an international one. Same with the Poongko vid, it was from a Korean tournament, look him up, he has other great vids, like where he gets rocked by Oswald. Having something international doesn’t guarantee that something good will come of it. SF4 had a lame grand final, even though it was international. There was no Daigo moment in the tournament, though there were tons in the GG tournament during his match against Mochi’s Dhalism.

What I’m saying is to make shit happen. Post LESS matches. Post only GOOD matches. Fuck everything else.

And by make shit happen I don’t mean set up a tournament and hope for the best, I mean get some people together and train specifically to put on a show, not play to win.

Here’s another match I forgot me and The Answer even put on a show at that same location:

Also what you say is great in theory, but very impractical. You never know how a match or tournament is gonna turn out, if you play around with that stuff too much to “Set up” Great Finals, you run into tampering with the tournament and rigging it, which is something I don’t want to be associated with. Some people have an argument and rightfully so that top 8 shouldn’t be seeded at EVO, that they should have to work through the rigors of the day long bracket like anyone else, and to a degree they have a point, then it’s more random. In Mexico everyone gets thrown into pools from the getgo, doesn’t matter who you are, you gotta work your way to the top FROM THE BOTTOM in KOF. Doesn’t matter if you are Abraham, Kula, Bata, Hummer, M’, Buchecha, doesn’t matter! You have to PROVE YOUR WORTH! So really all you can do is assemble the best display of talent you can AND hope for the best, and the only way to LURE that talent is:

-Show them other top level talent that is going to be there
-Have a GOOD amount of MONEY that is going to be present to the winner.

So any way you look at it it is still playing to win. The players (and rightfully so) have to ask “What’s in it for me?” If they have any business sense whatsoever THEY KNOW THEM ENTERING YOUR TOURNAMENT IS POSSIBLY MAKING YOU MONEY, so they have to know what is in it for them?

Thus anyway you look at it it it is playing to win, period. Putting on a show is for High Level Money Matches/Exhibitions, and I love doing that so people get the Big Picture because Daigo may not play everyone or the one guy that gives him problems in the tournament, so have him play him OUTSIDE the tournament for money or hype or something, I do that ALL THE TIME.

Good commentary/capture hardware would also help, AI vids are a good example.

But what you all must understand everyone, me and Scottind (The guy that does the AI feeds) went down this road before, is that carrying all that stuff around to do super high level feeds all the time with everything else I gotta carry around to record is simply not economically feasible.

Me and scottind talked about that and he keeps his stuff in ONE location.

I’d rather just hire someone like Sp00ky/Art to come and be solely responsible for that stuff, do you all have any idea what it costs to bring all the stuff for high level feed/commentary/the right mixing equipment etc PLUS tournament stuff to a tournament? That’s a lot of money for something so if I am going to do that it will ONLY be for the HIGH LEVEL International stuff, where I feel it is worth my time…

Any Japanese speakers willing to help with translations? Please PM me links to good match videos.

@DG: I’m definitely taking you up on the offer to help with the Wiki.

No, they don’t.

Wait, I don’t think me and you are on the same page. I don’t care about the top players and whats in it for them.

I’m talking about the people, like the ones in this thread, who want to jump start an SNK scene. Luckily people like you, Noc, Giby, Answer, Kane etc seem to be a part of that. Notice my use of the word “train”? That’s because of the ass hat top players that you refer to who will only play for money, not to expand the scene and get new people interested. Expand being the key word, cuz that’s the way you’ll get into Evo.

People getting together to impress. No rigging, no hate. No money. All it can take is one vid.

What has been done till now is not working, plain and simple. Sites and forums are put up but they die, fast. You have been traveling and trying to get things going but its not working. Something else needs to be done, not necessarily what I’m suggesting, but something else.

Don’t curtain shit to please everyone, pick specific games that have that wow factor, ala 3rd Strike. For SNK fans the biggest, and prolly only, option right now is KOF13. Pick a mark and push it. Older KOF are butt ugly and won’t get lots of ppl interested no matter how much anyone tries, I can say this with complete certainty.

And that vid you posted won’t be converting anyone any time soon. Me posting a vid of that SNK KOF13 match between Ichiko and the dev where they go hyper drive on each (Kyo v. Terry)? Now that is another story. How do I know? Because I showed it to my kid sister and her jaw hit the floor. All from a match between unknown players.

If somebody can tell me what equipment I need to record direct feed with my macbook, I’ll be happy to do it tonight. there’s a FRY’s by my house.

XIII might be a good investment once it is released on consoles. By that time, plenty of players should be skilled enough for a big tournament, right? It definitely has enough eye candy for new blood and I’ve impressed more people with XIII footage than XII.

XII

Me: Look at those graphics!
Someone: Hm.

XIII

Me: Look at those NeoMAX attacks!
Someone: :o

@answer: I think that involves hooking it up directly with the arcade cabinet for direct feed. Gonna have to ask the operators here

@Diavle: Exactly my point. Yes its nice and all that there are past games that are really good in 98/2k2/2k etc but that isn’t going to wow anybody or more importantly, that isn’t the information most players will be seeking. 2K2um may have a chance but all the hype is for XIII, hence XIII has the top priority. And altho 2K2um is a good 2nd, it doesn’t have as much in comparison to XIII as XII does (Kane said it himself). Basically what we want to accomplish is by the console release of XIII is a go to place for all info/discussions/buddy lists instead of several small pockets scattered on different sites.

Done, what’s next?

Here’s where it gets tricky and my mind goes hazy. Probably something along the lines of a capture card so u can collect the audio and video directly from the Cabinet to your computer. Since AI has done direct feed already, they can def tell you more about it.
