Oh my my my. Did he ever once post about playing online, let alone about GGPO? How presumptuous it’s almost cute. Stop getting others’ ideas mixed up. Amazon.com: JumpStart Reading for First Graders: Software Here ya go dawg.
For your sake, I hope you’re playing with good competition to back that statement up. If not, it just goes to show that you don’t care about improving. Good job on getting upset and an insult that wasn’t directed at you in particular but rather everyone in this forum though.
Eh, I wouldn’t advertise those yet considering almost none of them are complete. It’s a lot of work.
True I’ll admit I got salty. Too easy nowadays. And no the comp isn’t good. Hard to get people excited over playing a 8-12 year old game (depending on your pick)
Naysaying aside one of the mods of Orochinagi PM’d me back, so hopefully they’re open to working with the community as far as trying to make a change.
Anakron: I get what you mean concerning splitting an already small community, but I don’t think it’d hurt the SNK community in the long run. In fact I was hoping it’d be older KoF players like yourself who’d be integral in getting a new place setup, even if all you end up doing is making suggestions. You of course don’t have to agree, but with the state of affairs currently I don’t know if there’d ever really be a US SNK community.
The same goes for folks like Emil, Laban, and anyone else with an interest in getting more people to play. Even unfinished Emil’s 2k2 wiki is probably the best source of concentrated KoF info available to English reading communities. But think of the amount of info we could share if we were all on the same board, posting thoughts and feedback and suggestions in a place everyone can read. And I know the IRC is there, but that information is only temporary. We need a place where people can get to new info, post new info, check out old info, and then deal directly with the people who are responsible for it. SRK has provided a place for it, but it really doesn’t seem like a good layout for such an expansive series. The games are just too big for one subforum.
What do you think is stopping people from posting information here? (It’s a rhetorical question.)
I don’t mean to burst your bubble and all, but uh, there’s an IRC channel for folks who want to spit SNK. I mean, I was going to say “click on one of the sticky threads”, but, you know, the name of the channel and the network are right in the title!
( auaguh )
Personally (if my input can mean anything) Its more cause people don’t want to put up stuff for a game that only a select few still continue to play. As far as XIII is concerned, only very few people have actual access to it.
edit: except nobody seems to be active on the mIRC, much less would be up to talk theory fighter. Good place to find a ggpo opponent, but not much else unless i always seem to popping up at the times when everyone’s on their naptime
Nothing really. but SRK constantly reminds us that it is a SF/Capcom site. 13 dropped and there was no news on it till a week later. It’ll be good to have a dedicated Meltybread/Dustloop type site for Kof, that is undisputedly for KOF. besides there are tons of dusloopers breaders that post in both AND srk but they still have “their homes.”
As far as the rhetorical… yeah.
And I’ve already addressed the IRC issue in my previous post, though I imagine you skimmed it.
I don’t doubt that both sides have good points, especially with the fact that SRK does work, but when this game officially does hit consoles, it’s hard to think that anyone will even know SRK can be a source of information on these games. Even if they do start to go through this subforum, the information will be poorly organized or hard to find (Outside of emil’s wiki of previous entries of course). There isn’t an option to click KoF 13, click K’ subforum, then immediately have access to something even as simple as a move-list.
These are the things that are going to deter the scene from growing. The game on it’s own I’m sure will garner a lot of fans, it’s a complete game that SNK has obviously put a lot of effort into. If any entry is going to be worth putting effort into, this is it. But without a good place to post up about info/gatherings, SSF4 is going to continue to take those players who would be playing KoF out of the picture. And it has absolutely nothing to do with which game is better, it’s going to be about the fact that there’s an abundance of SF info, easily accessible, with folks you can talk to and interact with immediately.
Unfortunately KoF having an IRC and a subforum just doesn’t compare.
Uhh didn’t you use to hang in the IRC channel and theory-fight with us all the time (around XII release time)? Then you just disappeared and now you gonna diss the channel and say no one is there or not helpful? WTF? I am always happy to discuss gameplay and so are many of the other members (Emil is often there). If I’m thinking of a different Phoenix than I apologise.
Anakron: We need subforums for the games and then threads for the characters. I used to post a lot of info in the 98/2k2 threads but I now don’t bother because it’s always pushed away by people arguing over stupid shit, or clowns doing local matchmaking that isn’t relevant to anyone else reading the thread.
Nah its the same. I disappeared cause of personal stuff and I log back in every once in a long while to see if there’s any convo’s going on. Always seem to be at the worst times apparently unless I’m right in some aspects. Hell other than XIII’s release, only reason why im active again is i’m hoping that the arcade in Richmond,BC gets XIII so i can go record/play/spread the word
yea I like this thread two. KOF fans need a wake up call to awaken others to play this game.
Over here SNKP itself is pretty dead. We don’t want KOFXIII to be very overlooked.
It would be cool to get a good usages of the game from major tourneys as well.
You’re going to Final Round right? Try to get some shit going their side tourney wise.
I’m down. Let’s get to work.
It’s quite simple, really. SNK needs to make a new good game (kof13 at this time) with a decent online component (ngbc is almost decent). Minor games thrive on people being able to play online, because it’s difficult to pull your respective scene into a minor game, and even harder to make them actually good at it. Even harder than that if all of you are at square one.
Online bridges that gap, allows people to train, and gives them confidence in their skill to actually want to enter side tourneys or what have you. Without that ability, it’s not worth it in any way for 99.9% of people to pick up a game. Trust me, I know. The only reason I ever even started playing kof was because I could play it on Poporu and my online buddies started learning it on a whim. Without that I wouldn’t even considered playing it. A fighting game in 2010 cannot be successful without playable online. It will not happen (and don’t say melty, because a shit ton of people picked up the game purely because of the online in the previous PC version).
I can’t make local players that are relatively new to fighting games (but are decent players) good at kof by playing once a week for a few hours. They need to be able to play whenever they want. If kof13’s online isn’t top notch, you will see no new blood, period. No amount of tourneys, pot bonuses, or wikis can make up for that.
im sorry emil but Real Talk is not permitted on the Shoryuken.com forums. you have received an infraction
Did not feel like reading the mountain of text above me so I’m just gonna ask. Best place to find, and learn KOF is where? And if I can’t find one maybe us in SRK should do something about building it back up somehow.
I’ve played every KOF game since 97, and I bought KOFXII and still have it. Never got to use it only at a couple side tournaments at ssf4 events. I wanna hype the shit out of KOFXIII from what I’ve played at AI it’s gooood. Better than ssf4, SNK didn’t fuck up this time.
Shit, you ain’t lying on that one, Dandy.
Well if you’re already playing at AI, then you don’t need to look any further. I’m really pumped up for KoF XIII. I think everything is solid so far. How was the gameplay? Any new or cool moves? I know SNK never fails with the music, so I won’t ask about that. So here’s what I see so far that’s good for KoF XIII…
Character roster: Good
Stages: Good
Bosses: So-So, but they’re there.
Sub Systems: Good
Supers: Fucking awesome
Online Play: ???
Options: ???
Win counter: ???
I told you already, it’s easier to be more dedicated to getting better when it’s a game the player actually cares about. If I had access to XI comp regularly I would work hard as hell to be good in that. 02 and 98? Games I don’t care about hence my on and off again playing. I agree that getting better at games like 98/02(since that’s what “everyone” plays) will help the transition to other KOF titles.
What blows about KOF is that the games that I really want to be good in(02UM/MIRA/XI) I don’t have competition in at all and the games I don’t care for(98/00/02) I do. XIII is a game I already actually care about learning. With strong netcode backing it I can see myself putting in the work to better with more dedication than I ever would put in 98 or 02.
And Dandy J is right. You NEED online. I am tired of buying game after game from SNK with no one to play against. It SUCKS. You know what will happen to XIII if it comes with bad nectode? Another game on the shelf collecting dust. New players will lose interest because of the lack of comp and those who want to get better can’t because there is no way for them to get comp unless they live in certain areas. You can support 98 and 02 all you want but it cannot make the impact a successful XIII can.
