Dude it’s a game. Who cowers in fear? The only time you see someone dominated is when they have no clue how to play the game, or they’re being severly outclassed. I don’t care about these situations, because I don’t play my sister, and I don’t get off on beating people online.
I would hope that the people you play in casuals or in tourneys don’t make you COWER IN FEAR. If so, go back to the drawing board, and learn to counter these horrifying tactics.
@radiant: Yeah, there ya go. There are always exceptions. But I’m guessing he uses a button for dashing, correct? I don’t play Marvel, but I thought mapping dash to a button wasn’t allowed in tourneys? Or can you map w/e you want? I’m guessin you can, since I don’t see how he could play otherwise…
Yeah I dunno how he sets up his buttons, just that he does very very well on pad. The button rules depend on the tournament. I think the 3P/3K button bind in SF4 is legal at most tourneys including Evo.
Yeah see the problem with SF4 is it’s both of those things. It’s overly defensive, and if you land a lucky hit, you can do retarded amounts of damage very safely (see DP>FADC>ULTRA). How much fun is it to try and throw out something you thought was safe only to have it outdone by something that’s safer, higher priority, does a half life bar in damage, better in every way, especially if you play a character who doesn’t have an option like that.
it’s not the tactics that are terrifying. and seeing as how you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m going to assume that either you’re taking an antagonistic stance without thinking, or you have no clue of which you speak. it’s something every tourney player experiences.
in any case, let us know how your plans to take you to the top work out
IMO, it’s not that the game has too many defensive options, it’s just that unlike previous games, defense doesn’t rely that much on execution and reaction anymore. Lots of SF games have strong defensive options. Stuff like damage reduction, just defense, parrying, air guard, alpha counters etc. But most of these things are only effective if you have good reactions and execution. If Capcom added 1f reversals and 1f backdash on wakeup, I don’t many people would complain that SFIV has too many defensive options.
At any rate, I don’t mind the defensive options. I don’t even mind the turtling (people forget how long pre-ST matches used to carry on for). The biggest issue I have with defense in this game is directly related to the lenient input system. Most of the other flaws are annoyances I can live with.
No, I think you’ve watched the old Daigo A3 exhibition vs the US a bit too much. “Press some buttons, Cole!” That only happens when a person is severely outclassed. Those dudes had never played someone of Daigo’s caliber, and they hadn’t even seen a good Guy/V-Akuma.
Exact same thing happened in the first 5v5 3S exhibition. US had never seen that shit, so they got stomped.
This day and age, with so many videos out there, shit like that doesn’t happen anymore, unless you’re playing someone you completely dominate, or that dominates you.
And btw, I never said I’m going to the top. I just called you out on your bs posts that have little backing in reality. Do you study frame data and matchup charts as well?
How many US players prefer Sanwa/Seimitsu above Happ?
How many Japanese players prefer Happ above Sanwa/Seimitsu?
Throughout the interview he makes valid points confirming what most players (regardless of geographical location) already think anyway, but now all of a sudden some of you get all butthurt and start crying and being all patriotic, and anyone who has a different opinion is obviously dickriding Daigo.
Ok dude if you’re not talking about a strategy, and you’re not talking about being mentally broken cause you’re outclassed, then you’re talking about just cowering in fear for the hell of it? Mmmmmk
No good player “cowers in fear”. You’re either turtling and waiting for an opening, or you’re mind fucked. Or you have no idea how to play the game. One of the three…you’re saying neither. So I’m saying WTF are you talking about?
I’m talking about emotional tension. stress. see, everything you’re saying is with the understanding that a player is clear-minded, as if they’re going out to do something they don’t care about at all.
Hell, the stress of being uncertain about whether you’ll win or lose isn’t even the only stress out there. even if you’re absolutely certain you’ll win, there’s still plenty of shit that still fucks with your head
I think dude believes is scene lacks heart because they have everything readily available to them , Capcom headquarters, arcades , and top players available to them. So all they have to do is show up. while we have to create sticks and come up with locations . So our scene is someways better because we are more grassroots than anything.
Honestly though alot of people on this board have the confidence to go round for round with daigo without getting nervous Shit I know I do .
uhhh…how about a neither option? you know, i have experience with both and don’t have a problem with either. however, what i find amusing about this whole “jap sticks are better” mentality is that the Happ stick was never a problem (it’s not like jap sticks were an option) when the US player base was much larger than the 98 lb weakling that it is today. yet today, you have some of these self-proclaimed “veteran FG players” who had trouble find something so simple and basic as diagonal until they used a jap stick. LOL…now, that’s funny.
Exactly! 100% well said. I stated myself that Daigo deserves all the props in the world because the dude put in an insane amount of time and work and it has paid off for him; Daigo is great at what he does and there is no denying that. That still doesn’t hide the fact that most cats on this board jock/ride everything Japanese (including Daigo) even when someone like him is clearly putting Americans down. Like mr_punk said, people who had no problem using American sticks all of the sudden call them crap simply to ride the Japanese sticks. On top of all that, people are in here defending Diago like their life depends on it or something, I mean I’m a Fedor fan, but if some dude on a message board says Fedor seems like a prick, I may explain to them once or twice why their their opinion is misguided, but I’m not gonna get all heated and aggressive and continually defend the guy against every little thing that every person says about him…it’s simply not that serious.
I also find it funny how a dude ISN’T arrogant when he puts down his competition, basically says that no one can beat him and he blatantly blows off scheduled interviews. Brett Rogers didn’t really put down Fedor (he just didn’t deify him like some do), DID talk some smack, but never blew off an interview, but everyone wanted him to lose because he “was arrogant and talked a lot of crap”, yet as usual, most people in here ride Daigo no matter how big of a prick he comes across as.
