Well they also have cafe’s where you can grope women on a set made to look like a subway
Funny you should mention less experienced players suffering from it more because I’d imagine a bell shaped curve. The absolute top of the top would probably have gotten over the stardom issue and be fine with it, possibly because they’re “stars” themselves. As you move down I figure then you’ll see the whole “holy shit look who I’m playing” thing show up a lot. But at the very bottom I’d imagine you’d see none of that. Reason being? The least experienced players probably don’t know who the hell Justin Wong is. So, oddly enough, they’d be the least bothered by his “aura.” Granted, considering they’re highly inexperienced that calmness probably won’t help them much in the match but it’s interesting that the better you get the more opportunities there are for your mind to fuck with you.
I figure this idea originated on some variant “Japan is good at everything that’s not marvel, so it must be the sticks/buttons/etc”.
the correct way is to just not give a fuck and play with what you want to play with.
matter of preference
It’s really because of the default spring in Happ sticks allows you to snap back to neutral quicker, or so I’ve heard.
The secret is you can actually mod your sanwa/seimitsu stick to have extra springs, thicker springs, and or longer springs that make it just as snappy if not snappier.
I dunno about you guys, but I personally think that Happ sticks are hands-down the best in the world for mashing out of a dizzy or charging a denjin.
I would disagree. One of the differences between HAPP sticks and Sanwa sticks that people will immediately notice is the “sensitivity” of the buttons. I believe this is because Sanwa buttons have a shorter length to travel from neutral to active. The shorter distance allows you to mash faster as long as you’re aware of it. Basically, instead of lifting your hand/fingers you just sort of vibrate them over the buttons.
I knew Nuki was a homo.
With all due respect…no.
Look at all the 09 members here - most of them don’t go to tournaments or have just started, but they love to argue about Justin vs. Daigo or Valle vs. Ed Ma or whoever.
Thanks to Youtube and especially live streaming, fighting games have started attracting fans who follow the scene much like one would follow the NFL or NBA. This is where most of our newer tournament players come from nowadays, so they’re especially prone to the Justin factor and such.
Also, “less experienced” is different from “least experienced”. Afrolegends wasn’t a noob (obviously, if he made top 8 at Evo!), but that was only his second Evo and I don’t think he had played the Japanese much before. They have such a different style that it’s going to overwhelm you at first.
Markudea: Well, for starters, he uses “2D GOD MAGO” as a username sometimes. Also IIRC at SBO this year he gave interviews that came off as way more arrogant than anything Justin’s ever said, then proceeded to lose to a KOF player in the semis. Basically he’s convinced he’s the best and isn’t afraid to say it, and that can rub people the long way considering he didn’t win SBO or Nationals and routinely loses to Daigo.
Though to be fair, he’s at least honest in reporting the results of his long sets. That’s better than some people I know…
Its not the button themselves. That vibration trick can be performed on american sticks just as easy. As a marvel player, I find myself buttering that shit out @ will regardless of a jap or american stick.
pretty sure the sensitivity of the buttons is derived from the mechanics that regulate the stiffness of the button press. iirc, its the spring inside the buttons that determine weather or not its going to be sensitive or slightly stiffer than on american ones.
The biggest difference between american\jap sticks is the mechanical design of the actual joystick. The throw between inputs is much smaller on a jap stick. So anything that requires a hard joystick mash will be easier on a jap stick. Getting of HG tempest in mvc2, mashing juggy head crush for 8 hits, mashing that shake dizzy thing in gg\bb and vf. Even mashing out of multi hit throws in ST is slightly easier on a jap stick.
When I speak of “less experienced” I’m talking in terms of the tourney scene and the community in general. It’s possible that somebody could play Street Fighter casually all his life and not once participate in a tournament or pay any attention at all to the online community. Imagine that person, just an old school arcade junkie, sees a flyer one day about a Street Fighter tournament and just decides “Hey, why not?” His first match could be against Wong and he’s not going to give a shit. The competitive gaming world is much smaller than the number of people who like to play Street Fighter and might wander into a tournament one day. People on this site, clearly being at least somewhat interested in the community aspect the game brings, are not going to be an accurate cross section.
my thoughts of SFIV exactly
as much as I hate capcom now, I would have loved if SFIV had been that game that re-invented this dying genre
You guys disagree over every thing. One thing everyone knows tho is Daigo is a beast.
To the people who are taking umbrage at Daigo’s (alleged) cockiness, I think you need to improve your reading comprehension. Seriously.
He comes off as confident, but not condescending. I’d even say he maintains a pretty respectful tone throughout the interview.
And so what if the man had (has?) a disdain for the US style of arcade sticks. The guy’s entitled to his opinion.
actually, I had a conversation about that with someone a while ago.
When you think of beast, what comes to your mind? I dunno aobut yall but I picture a four legged beast barreling forth at high speeds coming dead for your ass. You’re scared, you wanna run away (even if you’re armed and know how to use the weapon), you miss cause you’re scared, and then the beast just rapes any defenses you put up and gets you in its jaws, kills you, and eats your corpse. a near flawless victory, you didn’t have a chance and it was obvious to anyone viewing, including the completely inexperienced, that you never had a chance.
however, after having learned a lot about animals, you’ll find they’re very methodical. in fact, there’s a kind of mountain cougar whose cubs can’t survive on their own. and by that, I mean these “cubs” grow up be the same size as their mother and have just as much strength and motor skill and she does, they’ll STILL fail to survive nearly a large amount of the time. reason being is that the mother has the experience of living out in the wild and they don’t. so even if they’re the same in capability, they’re not equal in knowledge.
I believe the latter description suits Daigo best
Guys the moral of the story is that if you don’t practice, talk shit, don’t respect your opponent, and become the typical American, you will win.
IT’S BEEN MATHEMATICALLY PROVEN!!!
When you put “the” in front of “beast”, I think of satan or something demonic… Like the ultimate evil sort of thing.
Or that ep of Doctor Who.
So I wonder if that’s the end of Justin’s Fei Long now? Seems kinda funny how Daigo basically said “yeah I was worried Fei might have something new but NAH…Fei still sucks like always.”
Nah, Justin doesn’t listen to everything Daigo says and go “Nah, if he says so then I guess I’ll just drop him”
Someone paste that interview were Daigo says Justin is a really good player but his playing style is not suited for Daigo or smth like that. I’d like to read that again.
that was the most awesome interview of Daigo that I’ve ever seen
sadly right now… all hopes I had for Justing & co to defeat him next year have just vanished
shit aint happening with a man that truly knows hes the best of the world
