Eurogamer interviews Daigo + Capcom-Unity follow-up

my god thats exactly what i was thinking.

I think that was a podcast.
Something like, “Justin is really good but his style is based around capitalizing big of the opponents mistakes, but Daigo does not do many mistakes”… Or something like that
This was just a retelling from someone else(from SB4) of what Daigo said though, so… Might not be all correct.

Didn’t think this warrants a new thread, so posting it here.

I was browsing the latest issue of Arcadia, and they have an “Ask Umehara” type column where readers can email questions and they will interview Daigo about it. This month the question was “Do you play the console version?”

Daigo’s answer was “Well, to bottom-line it, yes I do. Mostly just to practice combos and to look up stuff that happened in a match. But I don’t play online.” The interviewer told Daigo that it was a “waste” that he doesn’t play online. Daigo said that he played online at a friend’s house, and that it was “pleasant”. He was impressed by how far technology has advanced to make such a thing possible. He also notes that arcades have died out overseas, yet this year he’s got more than 15 invites to play in overseas tournaments, and there are a lot of players who come out.

The interviewer then says that the arcades could become obsolete, and Daigo opposes him pretty hard. Daigo points out that 90% of his friends are people he’s met in the arcades, and says that the arcade has an ever changing atmosphere - can be quiet, loud, distracting - this helps train your nerves for tournaments. Also, when you can’t see your opponent is a nameless, faceless screen, you can’t understand them as well. In an arcade, you can see how calm/frustrated they are when they come to the machine, or hear if they are slamming on the buttons, etc.

Pretty amazing. Being 30 years old myself and growing up primarily in arcades I share Daigo’s sentiments. That’s the reason why I really prefer arcades. I have SFIV on console, but I were around an arcade with SFIV in it, you better believe I’ll be playing there instead of home. There is a huge social element that arcade gaming brings. He said exactly what I was thinking.

I really don’t like online play, but it’s almost the only option for American players. Only Socal still believes in their arcade scene, the rest of America has moved on sadly. Even Jwong advocates arcade play. I wonder if this will be enough to raise American players to the level of Japanese players. Only time will tell.

I fucking hate daigo

What’s your reason?

Because he wants people to neg him so he gets a full K-Groove rep bar.

cause he’s overrated shit and hw can he be the king of fighters if he dosen’t play king of fighters

well, i can’t say that i disagree with him. online play; it is what it is. furthermore, i’m not expecting SSF4 to be to be a vast improvement either.

You guys can quote me on this, SSF4 will be the same online experience. You just will have more options like spec etc.

where’s sanford kelly’s interview?

he’s right you know. The title of “king of fighters” can only belong to the king of king of fighters, and as such, Daigo, not playing king of fighters, can not be the king of fighters king, the king of fighters.

AFAIK the 2D God moniker was something that was given to him, he didn’t start calling himself that. Him using that seems to be more tongue-in-cheek than flaunting.

don’t hate Daigo for that. Hate the mother fuckers who scream his name as they cum into a sock. Daigo’s extremely conscious of his own level of ability.

That’s not a good reason at all, sure he has artard fanboys but don’t hate on him because of it…

Sure why not, I actually feel the same way …
