Eurogamer interviews Daigo + Capcom-Unity follow-up

That called Ume Shoryu right?

Daigo Umehomo? Everything I’ve heard about Daigo suggests that he’s either married or had a girlfriend at one point, so I’m kinda doubting the gay rumor, but given how reclusive he is it’s hard to find any concrete info. Both the English and Japanese wikis make no mention of a family, but then again they don’t have any info on his personal life at all and just focus on his game creds. 2ch would probably have more info on Daigo than anything else in English, but good luck trudging through all that. I mean, Justin Wong has a girlfriend we hardly ever hear about, and I think it’s just because the fighting game circuit is such a male-centric venue that the subject of women/wives/girlfriends doesn’t come up very often. Plus, I kinda get the feeling that if he was gay, someone would have made a point to say it after all this time, whereas being 28 years old and married in Japan kinda goes without saying since their society seems to put so much emphasis on it, but then again, Daigo hasn’t made any shout-outs to his supposed wife in these interviews so who knows. Could just be an asexual game fanatic.

sounds like the poster is in denial

Why would I care where he likes to put his dick, anyways?

On the US VS Japan joystick issue.

Daigo is from Japan so it’s obvious why he thinks Japanese thinks are better and more efficient than American sticks. If he grew up in America (during the 90’s when everyone was playing SF on American sticks) then he probably think that Japanese sticks were weird.

It’s all based on culture in what country you grew up playing in.

Generally speaking, imo, japanese players are more cool and easy going on the controllers when they play SF. They don’t smack the buttons hard and with much aggression like most American players in the arcade do. In America, what I notice, especially in games like Marvel, is when the game gets more intense the buttons and the joysticks even take more abuse. But by the end of the day the buttons are still working.

The Japanese joysticks and buttons on the other hand are very delicate. If you smack the buttons hard like a lot of American players do then they’ll stop working after a short amount of time. This is one reason why Marvel players in general don’t play Marvel on a tourney stick. They rather play it on their MAS stick because it can take the abuse required of Marvel gameplay.

This might be another reason among many why Japanese don’t play Marvel because their way of playing fighting games isn’t as vicious as the American way of playing fighting games. I believe a game like Marvel was made for the American joystick and buttons.

In another note. Even though I play on both Japanese and American I prefer American better. To me it’s easier to knock down ultra’s since the buttons are straight rather than curved like the Japanese. When ever I play in the arcade there are times when I miss the ultras and instead do ex mainly because of that curve scheme that Japanese buttons have. The competition button on American I believe are more precise then the sanwa buttons. Sometimes when I tap a Sanwa button nothing comes out. Competition buttons have responsive precision.

Well because he’s Daigo. DAIGO :dp: :p: FADC :qcf::qcf::3p:

Well, only SF1’s first version had buttons that were actually impacted by viciousness…

hahaha good one!!!

I remember those!!!

hope that this isn’t directed to me. I never called him an “arrogant prick”

I’m not arguing for the sake of arguing. all I did was point out my point and then pointed out why others’ points didn’t make sense, and they were being fucking babies about it.

and see, like what you just said would’ve been acceptable. I don’t even have anything I can say against that, that’s pretty solid

I would have liked to hear what he thought about being beaten by Sanford.

I think a majority of Japanese players give off that vibe, with their manbags and stylish hair…

LOL I wish I hadn’t fucked up on my premium order…

i wish they would have asked him about players he looked up to when he was learning. we hear a lot about people like eddie lee and tomo from american players so I think it would have been nice to hear him recount the tales of some japanese OGs.

Oh hey I forgot about this thread

To anyone asking what role mentality plays in winning/losing, have you ever heard of “The Justin Factor”?

For those who haven’t, it’s the tendency for Justin Wong’s opponents to choke and give away matches in the most ridiculous ways possible. A great recent example was at Battlefield Arcadia #7 - throughout the tournament, Javits had been nailing 1-frame links with Boxer, but when it was time to play Justin he suddenly couldn’t do jab-jab-short-headbutt and lost to Rose.

This happens all the time, and although it’s named after Justin it doesn’t only happen with him - every big-name player has this effect, especially on less experienced players (think of, say, Daigo vs. Afrolegends a few years back). It’s very easy to think “oh fuck, I’m playing Alex Valle” and let that get in your head, and when that happens you aren’t going to devote as much of your brainpower to gameplanning and adapting. I’ve let that happen to myself in the past…

Even beyond that, though, one of the biggest things I’ve learned this year is that it’s much more difficult to beat someone if you admire or even respect him. The Arturo vs. Daigo money match was a case in point…Art was talking shit all over Alphaism/IRC/etc. about how free Daigo was and how Evo rigs the brackets to protect Daigo, and guess what? He was the only American to win a money match against him.

Really, the trash-talking East Coast players in general have had huge success this year, be it in SF4 (winning every West Coast major lol) or Guilty Gear (Marn & FlashMetroid placing top 3 at Evo despite not playing the game anymore) or Tekken (NYC Fab destroying the entire Cali scene at Norcal Regionals). And that goes back to my original point - the best players have always had that kind of attitude.

So, Josh. How cocky is Mago? I want to know.

Clearly you must be a weaboo for riding daigo’s cock so much

/sarcasm

Give props after you lose, shit talking is the biggest part of arcade play. So is shoulder bumping, elbow hitting, and saying you fucking suck right in their face after tick throwing you’re way to victory.

There’s a severe lack of loud ass fuck, shit talk during tournaments that we used to have as kids.

Saying “EAT A FAT COCK” while deploying a Hyper Viper beam is always good times

^in japan players sit in seperate cabinets so they don’t get up close and personal with people .

I think it’s weird when people say that Happ is crap, but it’s good for MvC2. What type of logic is that? If anything, wouldn’t a game with constant triangle jumps, unfly-refly, AHVB, and all of these other insane movement techniques be an indicator that Happ is better?

Seems like the whole thing is just personal preference.

According to evo daigo is only gay when he’s drunk. Apparently nuki and tokido were gay lovers. Its pretty known that a minute selection of top japanese r homo.
