Eurogamer interviews Daigo + Capcom-Unity follow-up

So nobody plays for fun anymore?

“I play for fun” is an excuse people use for sucking. Why else would I play a game if I wasn’t having fun? It’s a redundancy used in an attempt to mask ones shortcomings as a player.

Ah but people complain about sfiv and play it to play it. Like daigo does. Games were made for leisure. Controlling cartoons on screen. People are talking like they are some sort of lame kurosawa-esque samurais

not entirely true. example: basketball. i play basketball strictly for fun and aerobics. not trying to go to the nba.

i play marvel strictly for fun and the enjoyment of the comic book heroes i grew up with. (gogo wolverine/doom/magneto). so yea… people can play for fun. you don’t have to be striving to be the best at a hobby to enjoy something.

Have you ever had one of those people that try to delegitimize your win because they say, “Well…I was playing for fun.” Those are the people I’m mainly talking about.

I prefer to distinguish how serious I am with my hobbies by just saying I dabble with it ocassionally or play casually. I guess that might be more cuz when I find something I like…I obsess over it.

Which is having fun. Rage quitters and shit talkers are funny. People who win and shit talk are funny. Shit talking during a match full of niggardly antics works

Has anyone really been as far as decided to use even want to go look more like?

This thread hurts my brain and my prostate.

omggggz his arrogant!!1

I like how I’m reading this interesting interview with Daigo talking about evo and Season’s beatings and what not and then “Do you like music?” just comes out of left field. lol.

So, let me get this straight.

Daigo routinely comes over here and wins the big American tournaments, takes a ton of American trash talk while he’s doing it, and never says a bad word back. He wins, he thanks people for good games, and then he leaves with a smile. He avoids interviews, probably because he’s a quiet and shy guy and doesn’t really want to tell the world what he thinks. People enjoy watching him and cheer for him in tournaments because he’s a softspoken, quiet guy who doesn’t belittle the competition. Even though he has every reason to boast and brag, or to say “How do you like that? Now shut up” to the people who talked trash to him, he keeps it to himself.

After this long, he finally has his arm twisted by Capcom to give an interview to the media. He opens up a little bit because it’s a close friend translating for him, and he basically says “I’m good at Street Fighter”. He’s basically forced to open his mouth (he didn’t ask to do this interview, and he was hard to track down), and instead of giving the rote, one-line answers we might have expected, he kind of opens up to us and tells us some interesting tidbits about his approach to the game and why he plays. This is virtually the first time he’s opened his mouth to the non-Japanese media in 10 years.

And for this, he’s an arrogant prick?

I just read the interview, lmao at people saying he’s an arrogant prick?

Truth.

Petty, witless, loud mouths?

In my SRK?

It’s way more fucking likely than you’d think.

heheheh godlike post

I’d buy an American motorcycle before I buy an American car. And I bought a Japanese motorcycle before I bought an American one.

I don’t see how he’s cocky or arrogant. He just said how he feels and pretty much what the truth is: America, by nature for whatever reason, is always cocky and full of themselves. We get hype and we talk shit, that’s the truth. The other truth is now unless it’s in the form of brute force, we can’t back any of it up. And we’re even losing that. America lacks in education, quality of products, and other areas where other countries and places (such as Japan, India, the UAE) are exploiting these and just taking our shit from us and doing it better than we are.

Evidence: American schools. If I remember right, a couple years back they gave some math students from an Asian country the same exam they gave some American university students. The American university students were so confident they did well and scored high while most of the Asian students said they didn’t think they did that well and they could’ve done better. Well, the Asian students blew the American students out of the water.

tl;dr: America is going down the shit hole with the arrogance they hold while other places have a right to talk the shit America does, but usually they don’t. They quietly just take whatever they need from us and keep moving.

Edit: So on to my real point which I didn’t make before. People say he’s arrogant? Just look at the best player in the US during EVO Finals. He got hype because he won a couple rounds. That didn’t last long, did it? No. There’s people that talk shit, then there’s people that deserve to talk shit. Get off his nuts and stop being so hypocritical when you don’t got room to say shit.

This is the only time I’ve seen someone say “in/on my srk???” and me not want to punch the shit out of them.

i’ve enjoyed omfg’s posts as usual, self assured nonsense, arguing for the sake of arguing and all that good stuff.i’m not hating, we’ve all had periods on the internet of being forum master-debators so keep it up.

Interview was good, Daigo sounds humble and his evaluation of his and others skill level and how he approaches sf is just honesty. When you’re asked about your skills at a given passtime/sport and you express yourself as truthfully and as respectfully towards others as you can thats simply confidence. Now if he was saying he’s the greatest of all time, he’s going to tear up ssfiv and noone in america is ever going to beat him, that’d be arrogance. Vocalising the reality of the topic at hand doesn’t make you arrogant. Guy seems really nice. i heard he’s gay, true or false? People talk of wife and kid but where are pics or even a mention, the sister got a shout out!

I get that homo vibe from Daigo too.

Not that it matters, but i don’t think hes gay. Keno (the balrog player from SoCal) said Daigo was trying to hit on his girl at evo lol.
