Essential Freeware Thread

Yeap. Just need to open up the animation window in photoshop.

Window > animations.

I am having a hard time finding a good media converter. I am trying to convert .mkv and .ogm files to .avi

this is for my movies that I upload to mogulus, they only take .avi files. otherwise I wouldn’t even bother with finding a converter.

I just searched and I dont think this has been posted yet

http://babgvant.com/files/folders/dvrmstoolbox/category1053.aspx

DVRMSToolbox. It converts DVR-MS files to Mpeg files.

Now here’s my request: I need a free Mpeg editor. I’m not looking for anything fancy. All I want to do is to cut out unnecessary footage in the middle of the file to reduce its total size.

I need a new ‘free’ antivirus.

AVG is bloggy, Avast won’t let me enter certain sites (it keeps suspecting malware), and Avira has lame ads pop up once a day.

You just knocked out the three most would recommend.

Look up for Avira hacks though, it’s the one I’m sporting and there’s some simple tweaks that allow you to get rid of that annoying popup.

Seriously? You’re complaining about once a day popups? Just set it to pop when you’re sleeping and you won’t even care.

Plus, who the fuck can’t click a button once every 24 hours?

I don’t even think about that popup anymore. Avira is pretty good actually.

You can do that?

Double click your Avira taskbar icon.

Click Administration > Scheduler.

Set your daily update to some random time where you’re not using the comp, the pop up appears after you update.

Its all about that Avast over here!

I didn’t even know you could set when it pops up.

Its annoying and happens at inopportune times.

Ever since I reformated, I’ve tried not bootleg software, so I didn’t bother looking for the premium version.

Btw, I was tempted to download Cloud Antivirus.

Saw a youtube of a guy testing it out. It only caught 4 out of 10 trojans.

So for future reference, avoid at all cost.

how often does everyone scan their systems?

I apologize if this has been posted, but I wanted to suggest the most useful Windows OS repair…
Dial-A-Fix

Also WinDirStat

I typically run Avira, Super Anti Spyware, Malwarebytes Anti Malware once every week or two and Avast once a month, unless there’s a reason to run them sooner.

Enjoy.

Freeware Genius List. Forty-Three of The Best Free Windows Enhancements That You Should Know About

Everything is what the Windows file search should be. Finds files and folders on your computer as fast as you type them. Very little resource usage. I’ve found it extremely useful.
Taskbar Shuffle allows seamless drag-and-drop rearrangement of your taskbar items.

As far as I know, Taskbar Shuffle only works on 32-bit systems.

If you want an equivalent that works for 64-bit Windows, go for Taskix. The interface isn’t as fancy as Taskbar Shuffle but it works the same way.

Any good programs to convert audio files to MP3?

EDIT: Never mind, I found Audacity. I remember using this program before.
