Just post whatever freeware you like to use. What it does and where to get it. It benefits us all so why not. You don’t have to pay to “unlock” any of these programs and they do their job quietly and effectively.
CDisplay is an essential tool for reading manga and comics on your PC.
The StartupRun utility displays the list of all applications that are loaded automatically when Windows boots. For each application, additional information is displayed (Product Name, File Version, Description, and Company Name), in order to allow you to easily identify the applications that are loaded at Windows startup. if StartupRun identifies a spyware or adware program that runs at startup, it automatically paints it in pink color. In addition, you are allowed to Edit, disable, enable and delete the selected startup entries. You can also save the list of startup items into a text or html files, and even add a new startup entry to the Registry.
Tired of trying to locate codecs and using multiple media players to watch Por… er I mean torrented anime? Well this is the catch all player that plays anything regardless of how incomplete or corrupted that file may be. It also has options to activate subs or different audio streams. This way if your watching some dubbed hent… I mean anime, you can change the voices to english!!
Just as I was going to unleash my TECH SUPPORT NO JUTSU!****, I was beaten to it. Not much I can add, apart from Ewido for anti-spyware. Good stuff, Warpticon
EDIT: Aha! I have observed your technique, and now will defeat you! Behold the mighty freeware you have forgotten:
CCleaner - Excellent registry cleaner
PDF creator - One click printing and creation of .PDF files froma variety of file types
Process Explorer NT - Kill any process running, lists the company name next to each process
Unlocker - Delete files which windows says are being used by another process etc.
TuneUp Utilities 2006 - Like norton’s utilities, but free
Apache HTTP server - One of the BEST dedicated server applications out there
PS: Can’t be arsed to put the links right now, I’ll do it later. In the meantime, use google you lazy cunts.
You wouldn’t happen to know what few sites those are would you? I haven’t had any trouble with the various sites that I got to. Some of them I havne’t been to in a long while, but if any of them are on my list, I’d like to know about them.
Wow, 5 fucking stars @ this thread. I can’t contribute that much, but why not-
For those of you into guitar, powertabs/powertab editor is the best tool I’ve seen in quite awhile to accumulate/learn music: http://www.powertabs.net/ (For song downloads in pt format) http://www.power-tab.net/ (To DL the editor and library that run the songs)
Clean Up! - A great free program that will clear out your recent documents, browsing history, spyware, etc. You can set how much and what it clears out and it does it in a few seconds, really great program.
I know that most of the major chat programs have PC to PC calling, but Skype IMO has the best connection. I talk to people in Africa and it sounds basically crystal.
Doesn’t take up any resources when I play some DoW with my friends…no lag.
Possibly the best mp3 player for the average person. The only thing I can recommend over iTunes is foobar, but it might be too confusing for some people.
Other essentials that have either been named or that I’m too lazy to link:
Firefox
WinRAR
Media Player Classic [get this!]
Azureus [second only to uTorrent. don’t bother with bitComet or any of the other torrent clients]
Programs I wouldn’t recommend:
Open Office [maybe this has changed in the past couple years, but when I tried it out I didn’t like it at all]
how are they any less essential than anything else on the list for the purposes noted?
Not freeware.
Both programs have likely changed enormously since you last used them. If it’s been a couple years since you used OO, then you used the 1.x version, which is far inferior to the 2.x series.
