This is a great thread! I’ve picked up about half a dozen programs from it. Thanks guys.
Bump because of the sheer awesomeness of this thread.
WildBytes has it banned iirc.
Yes, it does. I use it all the time, cuz I’m always downloading comic book collections from megaupload and rapidshare. Simply change the file extension on the file from “.rar” to “.cbr”.
Rhio… would you happen to have Lex Luthor man of steel?
PROTIP: You can also open a windows explorer window and go:
Tools > Folder Options > File Types > RAR > Advanced > New
In the resulting window type “Read” in the first text box and browse for CDisplay. Then click ok; Select “open” and click “Set Default”
Now you can right-click .rar files and the “Read” option will be there and it will open the file with CDisplay
No, but I’ll see what I can find. Sweet tip, Jeldaboath!

All I could find so far. Gimme a few hours.
i think it’s because it leaches so well, and most people don’t keep the torrent open long enough to upload to a 1:1 ratio. not sure though.
it’s banned from Tvtorents, Emporninum, Cheggit, and i think Zcomics. of course you have to have an account to all of these sites; and you have to have at least a 1:1 ratio or you’ll get banned. public sites like isohunt and torrentspy don’t care though…
might i suggest CDisplayEX? it’s an updated version with more options to better view sequential images. when it loads a picture, it displays it instantly before the rest are done, so it’s technically “quicker” also, you don’t have to change file names; just drag them in the window.
NINJA EDIT: OpenOffice and GIMP 4 LIFE!
I am subscribing to this thread.
Thanks for looking.
How does it compare to Guitar Pro? Does it play the tabs?
Just to bring this great thread back up, here’re some stuff.
Wesnoth at http://www.wesnoth.org/ is a turn based strategy game that is free, with a community that constantly updates itself. I don’t really know how to describe it, but try it out, it’s pretty good (though I think only patient gamers would like it). It’s sort of a turn based Warcraft with battling similar to Fire Emblem, if that makes sense at all.
I’m not much of a music producer/editor/whateveryoucallpeopleinchargeofmixing but for those that do, my DJ-ing friends recommend Audacity. Why, I’ve no clue, but it apparently rocks, so whatever. Get it at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

 Great link!
Spybot Search & Destroy, gets rid of spyware/adware like a champ.
Object Dock: Pretty snazzy way of setting up the shortcuts and makes you look like a mac poser.
CCleaner: I think some1 already posted this or another program like it but here it is anyway. Cleans alot of shit from your computer. Extremely simple and efficient.

And emphasis on zoom or vlc for media player. Those 2 are all you need
As a long time winamp lover, and a voucher for Zoom and VLC, I have to recommend you guys this player I just came across yesterday. It’s been working like a charm, has low resource consumption, skin support and more options than I can check out.
And I haven’t been able to find a video file on teh my PC it can’t open, even works with swf’s.
Check it out:

I couldn’t live without this program

I have a tendency to forget things so Post-It Notes have been a lifesaver. Can’t count the number of times I’ve remembered to do important things at the last minute by looking up at the corner of my screen.
Not exactly essential, but helpful!
To convert videos to mpeg format for itunes and to sync to ipods: http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dljodixipodvideo.html
A program that lets you view and download music from other itunes users’ shared libraries, pretty cool when you’re in a dorm type setting: http://ourtunes.sourceforge.net/
Not freeware, but while it lasts it’s great for burning iso and image files: http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php
