tbh elena should be played almost the exact same as she is played on 3S, the major difference is she is a bit safer in this game.

It’s good you can get far on footsies though, you’d be surprised how important that is in any fighting game.
As far as links go… it really is just practice. Some links are easier than others and in SF4 you could do the plink technique, but that’s not so easy to do here cause of chain combos, so I personally just practice the timing until I get it consistently. Luckily, Elena’s more important links: cr.mp, cr.mp and cr.lk, cr.mp are pretty lenient. There some more damaging links like st.HK, cr.LK, cr.mp but for starters, stick with the basic ones. 1 Frame Links usually aren’t advised anyway,
Yea, personally, I really love the idea of using both characters. Especially because of how well imo they work together and how I have Elena looking like Starfire and Paul with a similar matching outfit and hairstyle. Though instead of his Gi, I am using his biker outfit.
An yea to me footsies are super important, especially when you have to deal with bull like Hugo equipped with three power gems, constantly in your face and the only thing stopping him from getting in is Elena. Or Yoshimitsu (Who everyone and their mother is picking up because of how freaking safe most of his moves are, along with his range and other annoying features that I shudder to think) and his annoying pressure, followed by others who Elena can keep out to a certain extent so long as your paying attention. Alright, I will be sure to practice some of her more basic links, same with Paul because I do want to get better with these characters.
Along with a few others I have in mind like King and certain others, though another thing that has me a bit stumped are what gems should be on Elena? So far I am using a vitality, defence and I believe a power gem for the most part. I saw a gem thread for her but I don’t really see any information there. But she has some really bad match ups, but thank goodness this is a tag game so it helps alot.
Also she isn’t for everyone which I like too. she’s very much all about footsies and momentum
What is everyone’s thoughts on Nina being paired with Elena? I just finished most of her trial mode and from what I am seeing she seems to be a pretty solid and decent character, though she does have weaknesses. I even took them both into training mode and found some synergy between the two, though of course I still need to work on it. But for the most part they seem pretty cool.
Elena/Nina is a very good team imo and one that I am currently using. They have great synergy like you said plus I have found that are multiple ways to get 400+ damage with the two off tag cancels with either characters. Plus alot of Elena’s normals that she can only hit standing you can do after tag canceling from Nina because many of her moves cause stand on crouching opponents. I don’t have numbers for you specifically but the two dish out lots of damage and work well together.

Anyone find out whats the point in EX Scratch?
Yeah EX Scratch Wheel is invincible to low attacks. Used to trade but now it completely beats out any lows
so lk has air invincibility if I had to guess, mk…? (no clue) HK combo’s? and EX lows…
Yeah lk has invincibility to high attacks as well and will beat any move that can be blocked high. Mk has no invincibility and hk will occasionally trade with lows just because of the quick startup. But if someone is pressuring you and you need a get off me move, ex scratch is the way to go edit: take that back about hk trading with lows must have been getting lucky before earlier playing. Seems to get beat out more than trade
Is anybody on PSN at the moment, I would like to run a few rounds with someone on the Elena boards to get an overview of what should improve on and whatever. Much obliged.

Is her s.LK > s.MK chain completely safe from max range? Been running sets with a friend of mine and he can’t punish it even with Jin’s 3f jab.

I actually think it is. I was doing that in 2012, but was trying to ween myself since boost combos were made more unsafe, but even now, it seems pretty safe.
I played in the OTS this weekend and did pretty well with Elena x Dudley, got 7th. Glad I could represent a little!
I got bopped by cmpunk’s Hwoarang though. In general I struggle against him. Any tips specific to Elena anyone can offer?

Hmm - I haven’t fought many Hwoarangs so I can’t really give advice here. I suppose the best I can offer is just try out poking him, to boost, but I can’t guarantee that’s a legit strategy. Sorry
