Yea, I just found out about st.MP. It doesn’t force a stand.
I still use Rhino Horn a fair bit after Mallet Smash, but I got to recognize when the opponent is standing when hitconfirm so I know where to do Rhino Horn or Spin Scythe/Lynx Tail.
That said, if the second hit become cancellable that would definitely help with her mixup game. Instead of cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lk, st.lk xx Mallet Smash/Lynx Tail, you can use st.MP instead at that distance you’re practically guaranteed to NOT go over their head if they just sit there.
Another question. Is it possible to link into st.MK, to do her target combo?
Oh man look at all this interest in Elena now. Makes me feel good guys.
I really want my hands on 2013 so I can test all my outlandish theories based on the log. I’m spending all my time analyzing the numbers these days and not, say, eating and sleeping.
I think her oki should be really improved too. With rolls being punishable, I think her backdash is so godlike that she will be one of the very best at consistently stuffing them.
So for any veteran players with Elena I plan on making her one of my mains and was messing with her target combos mostly her ground ones. I was wondering have any if you really found good use for them.
Hi I am new to this forum but I just wanted to add my 2 cents in. I use mp mallet smasher combo and get 381 dmg meterless without being in the corner. You just mp mallet smash, cr mp, mk rhino horn, st lk, mk rhino horn then hk scratch wheel. I don’t know if it was already stated but thought it might help for those that didn’t know. But imo using her lp mallet smash instead of mp is the better option cuz it is quicker and still gets respectable dmg in 361
Indeed, that’s a good combo. I personally do the same combo but with DF+HK at the end instead of DP+HK. It’s a little less damage, but a hard knockdown and good position overall.
In other news, over the Christmas weekend, I’ve been compiling alot of notes for a guide on Elena. I need to confirm a few things, but I’d like to share and get feed back from fellow Elena players. Will notify when it’s ready.
Please note that the combos used in the video are not my most damaging or practical, they are designed to keep things fresh to look at while showing the different combo enders. Hope that made sense lol.
Might have to get back into this game. Elena was one of my favorite characters but honestly, she needed these buffs. Hopefully she will be even more fun now, which gives me a reason to play again.
I am not sure about frame data with Elena but I am certain from others on her forum that standing lk is 3f and is safe on block. For block strings I have been using her crouching lk to standing lk, and cancel into her light version of lynx tail to get chip damage. Of course it wouldn’t stop a fast invincible reversal like Ryu’s uppercut but against people mashing jab or anything else it will also get counter hit if they try to interrupt your block string as well. You could also just use her crouching lk to pressure the opponent as it seems to be a block string as well. If you do three on a crouching blocking opponent it will push them back far enough for you to do her mallet smasher overheard without going over the opponent.
I’d like to pose a question I’ve been thinking about for a while now. Is Elena better suited to be a point or anchor character? She builds good meter and has excellent normals for boost chains along with having decent tag cancel options (Scratch Wheel, Rhino Horn, etc). However, with the use of meter she can become more scary and deal more damage. For instance, she can use the EX Spin Scythe from a chain to hit confirm from a farther distance than usual and has access to her Super Art. In addition, it helps if she has a character to help get her inside the foe’s defenses.
I am leaning towards point character, but I’ve seen differing configurations. Anybody have any thoughts on this?
