I’m curious how this will affect her combo potential too, if they handle her TC float right, stuff like EX Spin Scythe xx st.MK > cr.HP xx dp+HK should be possible instead of EX Spin Scythe xx dp.HK, this should in theory open up more damage and will be the tip of the iceberg for her combo wise. Really looking forward to hitting the lab. Also it should be way easier to combo into super and possibly use her air target combos due to jump speed increase. Elena 2.0 sounds amazing on paper hope these changes stick! :smiley:

Another thing I’m interested about is the direction they’re taking EX Lynx Tail they’ve reduced the damage and made the ender different, this may indicate them making it more useful. Curiouser and curiouser :slight_smile:

What they need to fix is the air combo system. If I remember right air target combos only link when the opponent is standing and flip when they are hit in the air

Elena is definitely arriving.

The buff that REALLY interests me is the handstand kick now being +3 on hit. That means you can link her st. LK immediately afterwards, giving her a REALLY fast comboable overhead. She needed this, Mallet Smash wasn’t enough. What I’m envisaging now is using handstand kick, followed by st. LK as a default buffer. If you confirm the hit on the overhead, then go straight into cross rush for a big combo. On block, you can cancel into LK Lynx Tail, hoping they’re still blocking high, or just walk forward and try to throw. This is a whole new element of her game now.

I’m also very excited to see how big the hitboxes have become on cr. MP and cr. MK.

With the buffs to slide and EX Rhino Horn, she now should have no problems getting in on any projectiles.

The jump buff is small, but welcome nonetheless.

The Elena changes very much excite me. Alot of the changes seems interesting too. Can’t wait to see the changes in action

All changes are good. I rate it 9.95. It would be a 10 if they made hk and :b::hk: low crushers.

Don’t they already go over lows? I’d be happy if they got rid of her forward move my on :b::hk:

Considering some of the changes to other characters, Elena seems like she’s one of the few characters with a 3f poke which makes me wonder - How do you feel the changes to Elena will affect her tier ranking and people’s overall interest in her?

I hope the buffs she recieved make more people pick her up and hopefully speed up the tech finding process, I still feel she has lots of potential just below the surface we just need peeps to dig a little deeper.

I only started to use Elena about a month ago and I honestly regret not doing so sooner, she is a fun character to use and she does great damage

That said, with these buffs, I am starting to see a lot of people having a lot of interest in her now and hopefully, she is in tournament settings

They do but not on start up. If they made it air Bourne on the 1st frame I’ll be happy like kazuya’s back dash. Also I wish they would fix the hurtbox when she is doing the moves ( at least on :f::hk:) freaking crouch jab knocks her out of the animation. I can understand standing jab but not crouch jab. That why I say beat all lows cleanly, accept lows that hit vertical. those moves dont hit overhead any way so it wont be broken and if hits- both are 1 frame links.

Can’t wait to do cr short short mp from max range and have it connect with the opponent. I feel like elena is gonna be really good after the patch provided everything stick and there are not stealth nerfs.

I don’t think there will be. Everyone else is too busy complaining about “NERF HEIHACHI/JIN” instead of Elena

Is the any documented frame data on Elena? I could swear her crouching short is 3 frames.

I don’t have specifics but I did some minor testing about what was safe and what wasn’t against DP happy Ryus.

MK Mallet Smash is safe on block
MK Rhino Horn is safe though it can be cr.HP out of during the animation
EX Rhino horn is also safe, and trades with cr.HP, but can be jabbed out of. Luckily, you’ll probably mainly be using it to avoid projectiles (especially in 2013) so they shouldn’t have time to jab
LK Lynx Tail is safe
MK Lynx Tail isn’t safe vs 3f pokes (haven’t tested 4f)
HK Lynx Tail is also safe on block IF THE ANIMATION COMPLETES. Between the pairs of hits, a Ryu can DP out of it, but will trade as a result.

The only thing that is unsafe on block was spin scythe, and I mainly only tested the HK version (I didn’t think of the other versions at the time) and honestly, if you’re doing Spin Scythe at all, you should probably only do it with the intention of tagging to your partner to continue a combo/pressure. If you do, then they can’t DP out of it.

I honestly wonder why more people don’t play Elena and then I remembers her issue with hit confirming crouchers. That patch can’t come soon enough.

Honestly, I can’t wait for the patch. A lot issues I’ve been encountering (both for general footsies and comboing) are being addressed and it makes me very excited.

Alas, if there’s one last change I would want. It’s to at least make HK Rhino Horn hit crouchers. At the moment, there’s really no reason to use the move, other than to close the gap and when the opponent can just duck in reaction and get a full punish, it sort of ruins that.

Maybe I just don’t get the move’s purpose - When/why use HK Rhino Horn?

With her meter gaining nerfs, I’m not sure if the new EX Spin Scythe combos are going to even be worth it (especially since they nerfed the damage on the move). Not unless she can get 400+ off of it, which doesn’t seem likely…

I think that meter would be better saved for EX Mallet Smashes and tagging…just like it was before…

I wonder what the change to cl MP means. Can the second hit now be cancelled, too? That would be useful.

What changes to cl MP? You mean cr.MP whose hit box got enlarge? Or was there another round of patch changes?

You can already cancel the first hit…so maybe they mean the second hit?
