Elena Thread

I mainly play Elena on point to deal with all the AA nonesense Law struggles with but after the patch I’m considering trying her out on anchor, because Elena with meter post patch will be crazy especially with the ridiculous reach on her cross art (check out the bonus part of my first vid) , EX Mallet Smash and her EX Rhino Horn buffs. :slight_smile:

Wow that’s a good question because lately I have been reconsidering whether to use her as point or anchor. I have always used her as point because of the same reasons you mentioned but if I can’t open up the opponent in a few seconds I have practically lost the round because of her health. Even though she builds up great meter if some1 applies good pressure before you can begin she will die quickly and I never get a chance to do anything. As a anchor you can start do her mix ups after knockdown and apply pressure yourself. I think it depends on the partner you are using with her; in my case its much better to have Elena as point because of her anti-air ability and build meter for my partner so he can be effective. Lately though I have set up my gems to where my team has meter gems, one when Elena performs a reversal and one when she does a launcher. If set up right if you launch the opponent just have your team perform another raw launcher and you may already have 1 bar on deck and can apply pressure accordingly.

I guess it mostly depends on the team. I need to try having her in the back more and see how it works. I used her as a point for Elena x Dudley, which worked pretty well. I also used her as a point for Bryan for a bit. I even had her in front of Cody for a while, but (especially in 2012) it might have been better if Cody were first, since he makes an amazing point character. I had the most success with the Elena x Dudley team, mainly because Dudley was OP. :smiley:

Yea I usually get opened up with Elena because I can’t find good block strings. I stay away from her ck.lk because of raw launchers. My guessing game is awful.

Also her standing :lp: is an awesome to AA for people who constantly jab jab cross up. Just hold back when you see them jump and you will most likely get a counter hit. this won’t work for deep cross ups. I’ll put a video. I’m still testing it out for different jump ins

I’ve ignored this change for the past several weeks because it seemed insignificant.
But, now that I’ve really thought about it…does this mean that her mallet smash CAN’T BE RAW LAUNCHED IN 2013?!

Not sure we will know soon. But I find it stupid that her spin scythe can get low crush by raw launcher. One it doesn’t hit low and two you can raw launch in between the 1st part of the attack. It’s risky but it can be done

Personally, I play Elena point cause st.LK is SO GOOD as a poke, even if can only chain combo and go into special attacks. I’ve been debating who to switch her partner to after the patch though as I don’t know if Jack-X will be as good a anchor, but I could be entirely wrong in this regard.

Also, I didn’t know about spin scythe being launch counterable. Man, I already didn’t care much for the move as it is, but that just rustles my jimmies even further. :frowning: That move desperately needs higher damage or something good about it. I thought it was a decent lock down, but this changes everything.

I can explain. When looking at the move we see Elena in the air so one can assume that she’s in an airborne position so changing it to standing doesn’t do much. In actuality she was in a crouching position for some reason (Christie has the same problem in many strings) and launchers are invincible to all crouching attacks (rather than crush low which some believe). So it stops being seen as a crouch, it is no longer eaten by launch.

I think players knowledgeable of Elena (how many can there be lol) may still try to Launch especially if it eats Lynx Tail because it’s now block MS low=take damage, Raw Launch mispredict MD=take same damage, but Raw Launch predict the lows=free combo.

I’ve tested it out. the light kick version of spin sycthe you must be spot on to launch between the 1st an 2nd hit. Once you get the hang of it’s pretty easy to do. Not everyone will think to raw launch( unless you keep using it to end your block string) it but if they mess up you get to hit confirm to the second part of the attack and tag cancel for some good damage.I wouldn’t recommend :mk: or :hk: version for to end a lock string because it is unsafe. LK version is unsafe from fast supers like Julia which is 1 frame or grappler supers

You can’t ran launch lynx tail :lp: and :mk: version ( unless if there is a huge gap in your “block string”)

I’m still trying to figure out which version of her dp has air invincibility, throw invincibility and attack invincibility.

Her light version of dp has air invincibility and I think all her dp’s have high attack invincibility and the ex version has low attack invincibility. I think you can be thrown out of her dps although I am not as certain concerning her ex dp

Good thing about Lynx Tail if anything that move looks the most like it should be a crouching move. That means with 2013 Christie will have a 50/50 with MS and LT that actually has to be guessed and not simply Lol launched. I mean that’s what any 50/50 should be but hey, progress!

I just had two games with him and left to do rank, never played you, but the PSN is QuackendriverV and my team is Guy/Christie though first I played Guy/Bob.

Thanks for the info Samuel. That does enlighten me on how Raw Launchers work, so good for Elena that she gets a buff like that.

Certainly I’ve admired your work with Elena for some time and I am always looking for more people who really have fun with the game.

Just a caveat though, unlike everyone else on srk I’m not actually any good. Like, last night I fell back down to 0BP because I am being outplayed fundamentally by shotos with no sfxt game sense bad. But hey, I am really looking to shut up and improve in 2013 so I’ll be playing a whole lot when not practicing with my Team Fortress 2 team.

Ha ha, wow, we actually run the same teams it seems - I run Elena/Dudley, but lately I’ve been going more into Cody/Elena.

Biggest issues I run into running her on point is her health and her lack of a quick overhead that can start combos. (Mallet Smash L/M is pretty damn easy to react to.) Hopefully I’ll have better luck with her on point when her Handstand Kick is able to be comboed off of after the patch. She is a great battery… but just like 3S, I think she needs to use meter to be effective.

Yea pretty damn hard to use her mallet smash if all version where as fast as the ex she would be OP lol. HK version is pretty fast but it knocks down. At least the move has insane plus frames on block :slight_smile:

the range of cr:mp: increases, ex spin scythe and her :mk: --> :d::hk: won’t be soo useless mid screen
