Elena Combo Thread - Shall We Dance?

Just came across some videos where a guy does a lot of different Elena Combos its a good reference.

Good find.

50-hit combo performed by Sakonoko

Fun little A2A juggle:
j.HK (1st hit), LK/MK Rhino Horn, EX Scratch Wheel (250-270 damage)
-The first hit results in a soft knockdown on its own
-LK Rhino Horn is the most consistent variant, but MK adds 20 damage and is still pretty good versus the lighter half of the cast

Hk rh also combos from j hk it just has to be really high.

It’s extremely impractical, but on a few characters it’s possible to do the following:
J. HK (air-to-air juggle), HP Mallet Smash, EX Scratch Wheel.

Pretty useless, but I was kind of surprised that I was able to fit in that EX DP.

Hp ms is +6 no that surprising you can also super after it. I’m more surprised by j.hk to hp MS that seems impossible.

This is from the j. RH juggle. Sorry, I thought that would have been more obvious. You can see an example of what I mean at 0:22:

Nope wasn’t obvious to me at all lol. I didn’t even realize you could juggle after hp ms. Do you know if only ex sw catches them afterwards? Or can hk sw catch them as well? The other Elena combo in that video was sick.

I don’t think HK Scratch Wheel is possible. It’s just too slow, especially since the first hit whiffs. Interestingly, though, I don’t think Mallet Smash adds to the juggle count, so theoretically you could connect a lot of things after it if it was possible to have the character knocked up higher. I’ll have a look at her .bcm later and check the move’s properties.

EDIT: It looks like the second hit of any Mallet Smash adds to the juggle counter. The first hit adds nothing, but the second hit adds 1. I was able to successfully get Super/HK Scratch Wheel after the j. HK, HP Mallet Smash juggle on Poison.

Hk sw is the same speed as ex sw. I messed around with it and couldn’t even get ex sw to connect. I do believe that hp ms is the most damaging option after the juggle m

The first hit of H Scratch Wheel has no juggle potential.
Both EX and H Scratch Wheel are 4f, but for juggle purposes the H version is 5f.

I just tested the MS juggle against everyone:

EX Scratch Wheel after juggling with H Mallet Smash works on:

  • Abel, Adon, Balrog, Cammy, Dan, Dee Jay, Dhalsim, Elena, E.Honda, Fei Long, Gen, Hakan, Hugo, Juri, Makoto, Poison, Rose, Yang, Yun

Against characters in bold, EX Scratch Wheel always works as long as they are low enough for Mallet Smash to hit twice.
Against other characters, Mallet Smash has to hit higher, but not too high or the second hit whiffs. It seems especially strict against Dee Jay.

H Scratch Wheel (or Super) works on Cammy/Fei Long/Poison if Mallet Smash hits high enough.
Against Cammy/Poison it’s also possible, albeit super strict, for M Scratch Wheel to work. It does a bit more damage since the last hit of H Scratch Wheel whiffs on them.

H Mallet Smash doesn’t work properly on:

  • Akuma, Gouken, Oni, Sagat, Seth
The second hit is guaranteed to whiff and you get hardly any damage. Don’t bother.

Damn good shit sprint. I figured it maybe character specific since I couldn’t get it to work on ryu (only tried him). Thanks for putting in the work. Didn’t know that about the juggle on hk sw.

Wow, great work as always. I really appreciate that you’re taking the time to organize character-specific information.

Yeah, the way HK Scratch Wheel works is the second hit is JP2 while the third hit is JP3, so you can get either two hits (5f) or one hit (6f) of it in a juggle with each respective juggle count. First hit is, like Sprint mentioned, JP0, so as far as that goes you won’t ever get all three hits in a juggle unless it’s a float (pretty sure Elena can only achieve that by hitting someone out of the air with FA3).

The four hits of EX Scratch Wheel, however, are JP5-8, so running into any juggle problems with that is extremely unlikely.

Tips on the following links/cancels? Can’t seem to do them consistently in a match and it’s bugging me:
-cr.LP, cr.MP, Lynx Tail
-EX Mallet Smash, cr.LP
-cr.LP, cr.MP after 2-3 cr.LPs as a hit-confirm

cr.LP > cr.MP: Just plink it.
Never do 3x cr.LP. All you’re doing is adding scaling, and creating the possibility that you’ll be too far away for cr.MP to combo.

EX Mallet Smash > cr.LP:

  • The only thing that will make this easier is getting yourself a remapped back/select button to plink with.

cr.LP > cr.MP xx Lynx Tail: Take advantage of b,db,b working as a shortcut.

  • db+LP, b, db+MP~LP, b+K
Don’t worry so much about being able to link the cr.MP unless you want EX Mallet Smash loops. Do the same input with cr.LP xx Lynx Tail for consistency.

A few new things Elena can do with the new patch:

  • Rhino Horn > HK Scratch Wheel now works on the entire cast… Spacing is still an issue when using it after LK Rhino Horn, but it works. st. HP xx MK Rhino Horn > HK Scratch Wheel might be universal.

  • EX Spin Scythe > LK Scratch Wheel > U1 works on more than just Decapre now. It now also works on Seth, Elena, Poison, Cody, Hakan, and Hugo.

  • HK Lynx Tail now works properly on all characters standing and can be cancelled into from very far away whilst still getting all four hits.

  • LK Spin Scythe > LK Scratch Wheel followup now works on all characters.

  • EX Spin Scythe > LK Scratch Wheel > LK/HK Scratch Wheel now works on all characters except for Gen.

  • TC4 (st. MK, d+HP) into LK DP now works on Roleno (woohoo).

  • Things like TC4/EX Lynx Tail > HK Scratch Wheel now work much more reliably midscreen.

Things that I wanted to work, but they didn’t:

  • MK Spin Scythe > LK Scratch Wheel followup doesn’t work on characters in the C category. I was hoping the change to this move would open up a new meterless followup for more characters. It looks like the hitbox on frame 4 is placed too high to work properly here.

  • EX Spin Scythe > LK Scratch Wheel x 2 > EX Scratch Wheel doesn’t work on anyone.

  • LK Spin Scythe > LK Scratch Wheel > EX Scratch Wheel doesn’t work on anyone.

I’ll update my page 2 post a bit at a time.

H Lynx Tail triggers a different reeling animation now.
FADC into HP doesn’t work on Elena any more, but it does work on Blanka, and only works on Honda when he’s crouching(?!), so I need to retest everyone.

Edit: Here’s a weird one… H Lynx Tail (2hit FADC) b+HK > cr.LP works on crouching Akuma/Decapre and probably more.
Never thought to test this before the patch so no idea if it used to work on anyone.

Mostly updated my character specifics post.
LINK (you might have to scroll up, hash links tend to not work right on this forum)

The most important thing to be aware of is Heavy Lynx Tail.

H Lynx Tail FADC st.HP:
1.03: Must FADC the 2nd hit against certain characters.
1.04: No longer matters against standing opponents.
It’s now much more practical to FADC the 3rd hit. If you’re confident in the 2f link into HP then go for it.

1.03: Doesn’t work on standing Blanka, Dan.
1.04: Works on the above. No longer works on standing Elena, E.Honda, Yang, Yun.

1.03: Works on crouching Abel, Dan, Dudley, Gouken, Hakan, Hugo, Seth, T.Hawk, Zangief
1.04: Works on crouching E.Honda, El Fuerte, Gouken, Hakan, Hugo, Sagat, T.Hawk, Zangief
(Note: FADCing the third hit only works on crouching Hakan, Hugo, T.Hawk, Zangief)

Sorry if this was already answered in the thread (had a quick read through), what is the go to combo off a focus crumple? I guess on characters that focus crumple > st.hp works on it would be like st.hp xx mk.rhino horn, ex.scratch wheel right? How about all the other characters where st.hp either whiffs or is a 1f link?
