Seeing how difficult this move is, do you guys believe this will be used much in competitive play or do you think it would be better to stay safe and use other alternatives? Also, if you believe this move WILL be required for high level Kazuya play, should a person like me who plays primarily online pick another character? I don’t want to keep learning Kazuya and then find out that I should have switched a long time ago.
Yes, I have done it.
Agreed (sorta), it will help him close distance quick with an amazing launcher. Players we be afraid of trying to counter poke the dash/pressure games.
For most new Kazuya players, it will be some time before we for we see wave-dashing into EWGF being applied T3 and TT style in this game. It’s certainly a great tactic, but i am not sure it will make him the ‘best’ character in the game. (Though it would be awesome if he was!).
I can seeing him being VERY VERY good. But, I could see the the technical challenges while performing and applying multiple WDs > EWGF being too high. Somewhere, I think we should to factor ‘ease of use.’ Other characters maybe easier to use, with other advantages which may make them better or just as good without requiring such technical proficiency. Its too early to tell.
… But, I hope you’re right!!
who knows if it will required? but sure its mad good, expecially being + on block (can throw it randomly and convert it into 400+ damage on hit, and frame trap on block)
Anyways difficult execution doesn’t stop good players from learning it. I’m sure we’ll see, at most in a few months, a handful of tournament level players that can EWGF at will
(afterall, this is true for tekken already, so…)
The thing is, in Tekken EWGF is what differs the good Kazuya players from the, well, not so good ones. It was pretty much his best move and it was required because all of his gameplan was around that one move.
In this game though, I wouldn’t really say. He’s really good without it already, already dealing high damaging combos with simple BnBs. Who knows though, but I wouldn’t really say it’s required.
^^^ these two posts above are right on. "Its mad good (+) but not needed to make him a strong character.
Hey buddy, Not trolling you, but this is probably best ask in some other thread. This tread is only about the EWGF. I am trying to keep it on topic.
I’m using EWGF as antiair. Cause for any tekken player, it comes naturally. It’s just a slightly stiffer shoryu, it crushes all highs so it’s a flawless antiair. Just slightly spacing dependent.
I think it will absolutely be required to make kazuya a good character. Kazuya has a fairly good jab, mp, low forward, the back-hk overhead (SO GOOD), but EWGF is the thing that really puts him above and beyond most of the other characters.
But on opponent’s wakeups I just do EWGF. Meaty enough to stuff any low, and it crushes EVERY REVERSAL IN THE GAME! (I’ve had Zangiefs ex SPD whiff in my face on a ewgf, I have yet to test though). It’s also +1(?) on block. After EWGF, if they throw a low forward, I just do a qcb lk. I have to assume that qcb mk is unsafe, so I just use the lk version. More frame advantage? EWGF again.
This character is unbelievably good with meter. I have no doubt in my mind that Kazuya will be put in the #2 spot on most top-tier teams in the near future for high-execution players.
Yup, and meterless EWGF combos also build tons of meter for himself and his teammate.
now I just want to test if I can anti-air EWGF*4/5 xD
This is the most fun I have ever had with a Street fighter series game, I can’t stop playing this character right now. In Tekken the God fist series is pretty much always to the frame and so I don’t why it should be any different here… only thing for wave dashing is years of practice. eyes Korean spec stick, in the corner. Of course, due to the 2D engine the movement is a fair bit easier here. I think Capcom near nailed it with this character for a street fighter game. Kazuya is arguably one of the most difficult character’s to utilize properly in tekken, maybe even the most, but in this iteration of him, he has a bit of the “rampaging demon” with armor, and dash invulnerability, haven’t had any problems getting true EGWF out of wave dash so far, and it feels similar to tekken to me…
I don’t know about the hardest, character ever, but quite possibly the most brutal… This alone will addict me to this game… Dat hell sweep Slaughter hook combo ender!!!
Can you use a easy input for this?
im having a hard time canceling a c.mk and c.fp into EWGF
I can do the EWGF by itself just fine though. Is there something special about the timing for a cancel?
I’m confused. I’m trying to nail this and I’m getting mist step > hp or mp variant.
Any suggestions on how to do this? I’m struggling to understand. I’m suppos to see purple (not blue)?
because i feel like this will be useful to you:
Rising sun or QCB+Kick on block:
LK -1 (+2 on hit)
MK -11
HK -5
EX -17
Midkick follow-up -19
Sweep follow-up -15
Also the guide doesn’t say anything about the just frame EWGF but, assuming it’s the same properties as EX non-just frame EWGF then yes it would be +1 on block
Just noticed something. EX WGF won’t come out if you do EWGF even with two buttons. You can use that to learn the timing if you can’t see the difference.
like this? ; )
granted it’s the LP uppercut but same idea.

Any easy way to get this? im pressing DF and /mp and hp at the same time but on my commands it says DF DF + MP and HP it keeps happening but im only doing DF once and i know it
Why does he glow during the mist step?
If you’re talking about that video above, he’s using some sort of easy input gem.
You can train EWGF by holding an additional button down and pressing the Mist Step > Rising Uppercut-input as fast as you can. For instance, hold HP down and press f, N, d, df+MP. If you do it fast enough you will get an electric but if you don’t do it right you will only punch with MP because Mist Step will never come out when holding an attack. Of course, that’s just for the timing. If you want to learn wavedash into EWGF then you can’t hold an attack (for aforementioned reasons).
I’m loving Kazuya a lot too right now. The only things I would be bummed about is the lack of f, N, df aka the true Mist Step and not being able to (regular) dash EWGF. I paired him with Abel because I love Abel too. At the moment they don’t seem to have clearly apparent synergy but Kaz is so good he can pull the team for now. He brings everything from meter to damage while Abel finishes with something into Falling Sky. I’m sure it’ll get better with time as they both seem like beasts of a character.
he’s talking about getting the just frame version of EWGF out of a multiple wave dash
