EL Fuerte's Revenge! ala improvement thread

Faster normals would have been a big game changer, perhaps more so than ultra 2 imo, sad to hear its not happening.

Still, I am happy with ultra 2 and the slight health buff. I am not sure if he will get to be mid tier in Super if those are the only major changes, but he will fare better for sure, especially that some of the top tier characters got nerfed a bit. I think the overall difference between low and high tier in Super will be notabely less than in current SF4, so even if Fuerte ends up as low tier, he will be more competitive overall. He won’t see a radical change in playstyle, but instead his current playstyle will be more effective since he won’t have to always fight an uphill battle.

i’d like to preface this by saying i main boxer and fuerte. I use my fight money to buy mexican food…
i’m not going to go down that list, but 4/7 of those normals aren’t ever used by boxer. i only use cr.hp on jumpins honestly. when fuerte is running i’ll jump back fierce, block and punish, TAP, or FA backdash. there’s the occasional ex dash out or headbutt to get out too.
I didn’t say that ultra spark wasn’t a whiff punisher though anyway. in the situation you laid out, you could giga buster him as well.

i’m not trolling, btw. i just don’t want everyone to run to fuerte, stop when they realize he’s not god tier because of the new ultra, and fiercely hate on him as a low tier joke character after a couple weeks of ssf4.

I actually didn’t play him much to even get used to him, nor did I think about using his specials in the ways I saw in the vids. Hell, I want to play Fuerte in vanilla NOW because of those vids, but the fact that his U2 is so good and that it could be used to bolster the kind of playstyle I’d like to use when playing Fuerte, it just makes it all the tastier. Also, it’s looking like he won’t be low tier, and I’m sorta tired of sporting that, as I did that pretty much my entire competitive SSBM career. It got really old, lemme tell ya.

Well, with Melee, the cast wasn’t that well balanced (better than Brawl at least) so the quality of a low tier in SSBM is probably much lower than a low tier in SFIV.

Trying to giga buster after he throws out cr.HP is not going to work though - giga buster has too lengthy of a start-up and activation frames where boxer can easily jump out of it.
Giga buster is great when boxer ends up jumping back though.

Ultra spark has 3 frame start-up and moves very fast to almost half screen distance hence why it’s more viable to bait whiffed/blocked footsies than Giga buster.
You don’t try to throw out ultra spark by guessing he’s going to throw out cr.HP - you do it only after you see him do cr.HP at about half a screen away or less.

Another thing, FA backdashes out of dash punches won’t work too well now since ultra spark moves to almost half a screen away.

Actually it was more balanced than a lot of people thought. But it’s also true that when I was in my hay day people weren’t quite as solid too. But yeah, I did really well with Mewtwo, who was ranked the worst for the longest time. Even was considered to be the best in the US for a couple of years till Taj came along.

Wow, another Fuerte player coming from a Smash background? Why are there like 12 of you?

I enjoyed that. Totally brightened my day. I don’t think a lot of people will jump to Fuerte. A lot of people don’t like his concept, or look at his movelist and don’t see any fireballs or i-reversals or easy combos. But fuck those people. Viva Mexico!

Speaking of everyone’s favorite stun combo, is the current consensus still that it’s even tougher to drop those fierces in Super? I’m not the most consistent RSFer, but I’m curious to know if this will still be an option once I’m able to play Super.

im kinda hoping we dont have a bunch o peeps runnin over to fuerte just because they think hes jumping up in tier. i like being one of the only elf players in the area. wen people ask who i main, i dont respond with your typical “ryu” or “sagat” its dope to be able to say u play el fuerte wen almost no one else does, it means even more when your able to destroy them after cause most think elf sux! ahha most people that main elf play him because hes fun and know that he has potential! its obvious we dont play him because of his tier cause hes down at the bottom! im prolly gonna get flamed for this haha o well

Trust me, once they see how hard it is to play as Fuerte since he has no footsies whatsoever and no direct easy SRK moves, they’ll drop him for either Cody or Dudley in a heartbeat.

Good question. Actually though, I just realized that Fuerte is the only character in the game that can actually Dash Dance like in Melee. Just be happy we’re getting people from a Smash background like us two starting to play Street Fighter with the most fun character in the game and not the typical Ryu, Ken, Sagat, or Akuma.

The reason I got interested in Street Fighter 4 initially was seeing vids of Tetsu playing Fuerte.

Otherwise, i wouldn’t even have bought it at all.

No, I agree. As scrubby as it may be to say it, I enjoy the scarcity of Fuertes and I like his (and only his) underdog status. That isn’t why I play Fuerte, though. I like his design (moveset, theme, and aesthetics) more than any of the other SF4 characters (Honda comes close). In my current gaming circle, I’m the only Fuerte. I wouldn’t mind if someone else picked him up. BUT if he suddenly became S/A-tier and THEN people started playing him? Different story. That would make me a bit salty. I’m not worried about that, though. Highly unlikely.

Just wait til Super. See what the Dudley Army knows about them Tostadas.

I just saw the trailer with all the characters. It got me fired up so I got the game. That, Michelle Ruff does the voice for Viper, and there was a Mexican character.

If Fuerte was to become high to top tier, at least he will still have that high learning curve so at least people will have to work at it.

Its really satisfying when people take note of Fuerte because you pick him. In my area, most players almost didn’t feel he existed in the game since no one picks him. But when I came on the scene things changed and some now think he is very cool and a worthy addition to SF  I am still the only one who mains him but there is another guy now who picks him once in a while just for fun (he has a love/hate relation with Fuerte, he thinks he is fun and loves RSF, but completely hates the fact that he lacks decent defensive options). With Ultra 2 now he is slightly better in defense, at least while he has the meter.

I wonder if there are any changes to his ultra 1, anyone noticed anything?

the weird thing is, i’ve played some really amazing fuerte’s, with great mixups and all round great technique…and i win/go even with them.

then i’ll play a not so good fuerte, a suicidal fuerte if you will (one who doesn’t really think about what he’s doing as much). they spam the same move 4 times in a row, then move on to spamming slide 4 times in a row, and so on. i guess wrong 90% of the time and end up losing to them, lol.

Probably me. Sometimes the best mix-up is doing the unexpected same-move-way-too-many-times-in-a-row. Just depends on the situation. I’m guilty of trying it more than I should, though. I just try to cement one option in the opponents head as a threat to avoid/threat most likely to be coming, and capitalize incorrect guesses. This, of course, can be punished relatively easily.

Live by the mix-ups, die by the mix-ups…that is the life of El Fuerte!

Hola!

I can not test El Fuerte today at my friend’s home, but I recorded a litte video showing damage about nerf/buff tortilla, guacamole & ultra spark (end of video).

See you!

Hmmm, looks like they did nerf tortilla a bit - thanks for the confirmation, Threelions!
