So against characters that don’t have a viable focus break move he should just get out for free on wakeup?
If they change his ex shoryuken to jump away further to get out of sweep range then that’d be enough.
This game doesn’t need more ‘oh no I got knocked down, fuck it, I’ll just use this move and get out for free’-moves.
Knockdowns should always equal to having messed up and now you’re going to pay for it with health unless you guess right.
I think the main reason people (including myself) want ex back run to be unthrowable is because of Fuertes backdash. It is the shortest in the game and cannot be relied on to escape wakeup pressure like majority of the cast can.
Like I said, there should be any one option that just beats all of the options the opponent has at hand.
Especially not in a situation that’s designed to be disadvantageous such as a knockdown.
Backdashes can’t be relied on to escape wakeup pressure by anyone, safejump + option select sweep beats that.
Backdash in general is used to escape blockstring pressure rather than that, and from what I’ve experienced/seen Fuertes backdash works well for that seeing how it’s the fastest in the game at 19f while the 2nd fastest goes up to 22f.
When you’re getting the the mid-range of the poke string Fuerte has ex run x tortillia which both escapes the blockstring and punishes it in many cases.
If people are throwing you all day it’s because you’re not giving them reason not to, jump beats throw and throw teach is a farily safe way to not take damage from throws.
You don’t need an escape move/dp to get out of throw situations.
@Skatan Milla: While you do have a point, I still think it is fair to ask for an unthrowable back run (at least the EX version). There are several characters that after getting knocked down, they have an EX move that beats throws and even punish, so they have a better chance to get out of pressure. All what we want is for Fuerte to be able to at least escape with an EX. That could be done with an EX back run, or as you mentioned with a longer ranged leg throw to get out of sweep range.
Also, an EX back run can be beat by any horizontal armor breaker like a tatsumaki, so its not like having an unthrowable back run will ensure escape after a knockdown, it will just make the chances of escape a bit more balanced imo.
Like I said, punishing SX Run in that case when read would only be doable by characters who have a fast enough focus breaking move to reach it.
There are plenty of characters in this game that have crappy breaking moves, not everybody has Sagat’s Tiger Knee.
It would be more reasonable for regular run to be unthrowable rather than ex run being.
Great suggestions Densuo, I especially like the fake tortilla, that would be very useful.
I couldn’t agree more. This is one of the reasons I don’t like SF4, but I love Fuerte so I stick around.
On top of what you said, let’s not forget that Fuerte is a character pretty much designed from the ground up to run away and run the clock out. A lot of characters have a very hard time catching up to him, so when they finally knock him down, he shouldn’t be able to escape for free and make them work again. It wouldn’t be fair.
agreed, but i say 2 buttons. i always thought it was a waste from the beginning. i assume Capcom reasoning was to free up those buttons for Q-bomb and we all know how that worked out.
well, i hope Capcom didn’t intentionally design him as such, but if that’s the case. i want whatever they were smoking. furthermore, it doesn’t bode well for SSF4.
Of course, he was. EX Run can rocket him directly away from his opponent and take two hits. EX Guac can launch you right the hell out of trouble (or back in if used carelessly). Fuerte has the best wall jump, undeniably. Back run + kick launches you straight for the wall, which can be used for some evasion. Fuerte can get out of town fast.
my point is that the design hasn’t worked out. Fuerte not Akuma. yeah, he can run like Akuma when he gets a life lead, but unlike Akuma. he can’t keep it because he has crippled tools and takes and outputs damage** like a baby.
** please don’t mention the RSF. the RSF is not a game changer.
The RSF CAN be a game changer, but against a skilled opponent you’ll rarely have the chance to use it. Too bad that Fuerte’s game is balanced around the RSF. Or at least it feels like it. They didn’t want to give him any truly damaging options because they gave him the RSF. Maybe I’m wrong. I just feel that too many characters render a lot of his wake-up shenanigans useless or remove so many options that it is no longer a guessing game.
no, your instincts are correct. unfortunately, unlike Akuma, he’s a fake glass cannon with limited tools, options and damage and when mixed when low stamina. it’s no wonder he’s so crappy.
His new Ultra should help him out in his tougher match ups, we’ll see how much mileage we get out of that. I’d be happy with a damage boost and a stamina boost too, maybe better buttons? I feel like he only needs a few tweaks to make him a serious threat.
I agree with this, few but CRUCIAL changes could make all the difference.
Yes Fuerte is a good “run away” character, but that doesn’t mean he should have such limited options to escape after a knockdown. He is not as hard to catch as some of you make him out to be, one or two knockdowns are almost inevitable against pros, so having him being punished with such limited escape options after a single knockdown is too harsh, and one of the major reasons he is a low tier character.
I’m pretty sure when Japan makes a change to the tier list, it’s a change around the world. I mean don’t you like fuerte being mid tier instead of low?
There has been some very creative uses of Fuerte in Japan recently (Rikiishi comes to mind), and TKD has been very consistent with him (relatively speaking). He is not bottom tier for sure, maybe between low and mid tier? hard to tell. He is top tier when it comes to fun factor though XD
Has there been an official change? Last list I know is the October 2009 one where he was near bottom, is there a more recent one? I would love to know please
Last I heard Togekki moved him up to mid tier( Higher than Claw and Guile) and I haven’t heard of any changes since then. I figured since they did it I assumed it was official. I don’t know of any posted updates on the tier list.
