I’m trying to learn KoF but my practice time is pretty limited. I have hockey on Wednesdays so that’s gonna keep me out of the loop for sure lol. Tell me when you guys play otherwise. Calvin pretty much 20-0ed me the other day aaaahahahaha.
Easily the best fighter that has come out in a looooong time.
Question 1: Yes. If you have really good fundamentals and can read your opponents then you can do well without learning all the complicated combos. Justin Wong placed 3rd at NEC and 7th at SCR with just fundamentals. That being said it’ll also be dependent on the characters you choose. There are some characters that are more reliant on landing combos as their BnB’s can take 50% life with a little meter. Characters like Athena, Clark, and Leona are less about landing big combos and more about fundamentals or reading your opponent.
Question 2: Beyond the looks, Ryo doesn’t play like Dan at all. He has similar moves, as Dan was a parody of Ryo but they don’t the act the same as SF4. There are no dan kicks into 50/50 DP/throw games.
Question 3: Depends on your definition of mind games. Personally, I think Clark is a mind game type of character as it really forces fundamentals and reading your opponent to score damage with him. He’s a grappler though so it might not be your type of play style.
Question 4: Yes. For the newer generation, the perfect way I can describe KoF13 is a balance between the footsie based play of SF4, and the offensive speed of MvC3 without being too fast. The game seems really balanced to me, it doesn’t seem like there’s one character where it feels impossible to win a tournament with nor is there a character that’s so over powered that it ruins the game. You also have to form 3 character teams so you can cover match ups that way as well. You also have to earn your victories in this game, there is no come back mechanic but it’s definitely possible and quite doable to reverse OCV your opponent.
Catch up with Calvin on the weekends. Random Friday’s we’ll stop by his house for some KoF and Mahjong. lol RELEASE THE INNER HONGER!
I think Final Round is a write off because there was some drama caused by some Atlanta player and a top Mexican player named Dark Geese. Dark Geese said he will be attending Final Round and is bringing a group of people with him from Mexico and SoCal issuing a challenge to anyone to beat him and his group. Something about showing Mexico that it’s worth attending US majors for KoF. If you’re looking to get Evo seed points for KoF then it’s not happening when Mexicans are there. lol
I also want to hit up a major that’ll have Skullgirls in the line up so NCR or UFGT8. I think for Evo seed points UFGT8 will probably be ideal since it’s quite far from Cali so maybe less chance of running into killers but if you were really looking to get Evo seed points we could go to that Toronto or Montreal tournament instead.
Going to the states costs the same as travelling within Canada, which is retarded. If you want to go a to major with Skullgirls, than you pick one because as long as KOF is there, I’m willing to go.
