Dudley and Ibuki are going to be whored by the noobs… cuz they both have a DP and noobs love to mash DP. But sooner or later, noobs will give up because they can’t jumpback fireball.
Not if they make shoryuken harder like they hint at in the dev blog.
ibuki won’t be whored out. Believe me, once scrubs start seeing that she actually relies on mix-ups now and then, they won’t give 2 craps about her.
Dudley however might not have the same luck, since he can be pretty direct dmg based.
Who needs to jumpback fireball when you can jump back and throw kunais??
Because her kunai has terrible hitstun/damage/blockstun?
SHUT UP!!!
And Nujabes is awesome.
Anyone that wants to scrub out a win I guess?
what happened to my dudley with smooth moves?
What’s the singer saying in Dudley’s new remix? It sounds like it’s either “Get on the Dance Floor” or “Put on those damn gloves” what follows that I have no clue. Songs tend to always have some kind of lyric that’s impossible to comprehend without the written lyrics.
It’s get on the dance floor, but what he says after that I have no idea.
Could be terribly wrong, but it sounds like he says, “Boogie with the groove in you.” or something.
I know I am in the minority, but I think it’s more interesting when a character like Ryu is top tier. Typically when you have characters like Guy, Gief, Ibuki, or Dudley in top tier that means sometehing is terribly wrong. It typically means that the character has some overpowered 80% combo, that’s stupid easy to setup. Typically when certain rushdown characters are top in SF games, it usually means their entire game has been dumbed down. Rushing down in SF games has always been reliant a lot on skills. I mean no one is going to honestly say that 2I Ibuki was a hard character to use. I like the challenge and the thought that goes into rushdown characters in SF games.
I can only hope you actually have to stand up to do it this time around. That would change everything.
>.> i was talkin about thunderbolt. but seeing from the gif you posted i’m guessing it’s not. ah well. i still don’t know why they put it in the game. it’s pretty useless.
i dont really get the logic in this explanation.
Zangief doesn’t have a fireball that doesn’t stop anyone from picking him.A dragon punch and easy to link supers and ultras are incentive enuff for noobs to crown their new champion. If he has high health and stunn and does good damage then it’s a wrap.
That’s pretty funny, because one of the reasons Ryu is top tier in SF4 is that HE HAS A REALLY POWERFUL COMBO THAT’S EASY TO SET UP. Ryu is solid, sure, and that does apply in his rankings, but if his Ultra wasn’t so god damn easy to land off of anything he wouldn’t be as high as he is for sure. Hell, SF4 tier lists are almost a reflection of how well a character can land their ultra.
Rufus has more ultra setups than Ryu has, and his ultra doesn’t even scale as much as Ryu’s when combo’d into. Still Ryu is BETTER than Rufus in every way. Sakura has a lot of easy ways to land her ultra, but she’s nowhere near top. Ryu is as good as he is because he’s good at like EVERYTHING. Good footsies, good zoning, a panic button, great anti-air options, and the dumbest option selects in the game. Great offense tools, great defensive tools, short and damaging combos. You name it, he has it all. And he’s hard as heck to pin down.
In either case, at least it takes skills to make him competitive, and you have to know your matchups well with him. Now take Guy in SFA1, who could pretty much 1 touch you. And then take Ibuki in 2I who could 1 touch you as well. As long as you have a character like Sagat and Ryu at the top, the game doesn’t come down to one touch. The bottomline, it’s really hard to make characters like Guy, Dudley, or Ibuki top tier unless you give them something incredibly ridiculous like TKD combos with easy setups. And TKD combos also dumb down those characters significantly.
And Rufus is also top tier.
What? That’s not true at all. They’re just about tied, but Ryu is more defensive and Rufus is more offensive.

Sakura has 2 ways to land her ultra. EX Tatsu and focus. She also has a garbage everything else.
Ryu is the jack of all trades, but with being good at everything, he is master of nothing. He does everything really well, but not the best at anything. Akuma has better footsies and better zoning than Ryu, Sagat has the best AA in the game with TK and TU as AA as well as Forward Stepping High Kick, Rufus can EX Jesus Kick out of everything in a pinch, and a ton of characters do more damage than Ryu, not just high tiers.
Hardly. A lot of Ryu’s strategies are universal and not character specific so much. He’s not a rush down character by any means and a solid Ryu is a defensive Ryu. Changing characters don’t make the fireball traps any less effective.
Yes, let’s compare games with obviously broken mechanics. Boy, Guilty Gear sure is a highly skilled game. I mean, look at Hokuto no Ken. First to combo wins. Scrub garbage.
This is going back to the whole “game with broken mechanics” thing. SF4 will never come down to one touch because that’s how the game is designed.
Combos dumb down a character. Amazing. I suppose Marvel vs Capcom 2 is the stupidest game ever then. Guy was top tier in 1 game because of bad mechanic choices and was nerfed to mediocrity in every other game he was in. Ibuki was top tier in 1 game because of her normals and chains being too fast and juggling too well and was nerfed to mediocrity in 3S. Dudley was SOLID in one game and was never broken or ridiculously strong and even in his best game he got unfairly jacked because of his jacked up hitbox. AKUMA OTG FTW!
Well I think that was a thorough break down. Anything else you want to say?
I’m thinking Branh’s point is that for them to make characters good enough to bump characters like Sagat and Ryu off the top spots, they’ll have to be significantly OP in some way shape or form. If a character with a specialized moveset beats out characters good in every aspect in matchups across the board, then that specialized character’s tools are most likely way more effective than the rest of the cast in general.
