I was just about to bump this thread the other day.
Anyway Dubstep has gotten really big. I went to a Halloween party and besides to Top 20 esque shit that you hear on the radio, the only other dance music they played was Dubstep.
I want to get into making it now as a matter of fact. Any tips if anyone is producing? I have FL Studio 9 XXL. Shouldn’t have a problem getting any other software equipment. The only thing that would hold me back this point would probably be hardware related if anything(Working on my laptop)
its just like making any genre of music. try to get a decent midi keyboard/controller. get a nice pair of studio monitors or headphones. andan external sound card. and from there its pretty much preference. if you cant get any hardware yet at least look for some WAV. samples and DL a simple audio editor like audacity or adobe audition. you can go pretty far with just FL and a good audio editor to edit your samples. FL is mostly for arrangement. its more difficult to edit the samples themselves, but the Edison plugin is really helpful. look at some tutorials on bass distortion on youtube.( there was a more official word for making bass wobble, but i forgot what it was called.)
It also helps to have gear that the pros have. Rusko and Benga use Albino3 for example for their basses. Basically the wobble is NOT quantized because dubstep is on a swingy beat and the LFO is automating the filter.
I dont know how to describe dubstep to people who dont know what it is… Sometimes its just like DnB with more hip hop drums. Sometimes its like the electronic equivalent to Death Metal. Sometimes its really chill and broken beat-ish. Sometimes its very reggae ish.
Wowwwwww I had absolutely no idea that we had a Dubstep thread on this site. I just started getting heavily into Dubstep and DnB not too long ago. Im subscribed to so many youtube channels and I know alot of blog sites. For me, this is exactly what I needed: A new style of music. I had gotten sick and tired of Hip Hop. Mainstream rap is Gangsta rap, and its all incredibly lame, especially when you got clowns wearing cartoons made of jewelry around their neck. Now I don’t even take any time to listen to rap anymore. Maybe the only rap artist I will take time to listen to now is Lupe Fiasco, but thats pretty much it.
My style of dubstep has to be heavy, filthy, and fast. I’m a really picky person, so I might not even like the songs that fit under that category… I’m trying to see what artists I will be sticking with. Some People I know that I really like right now are Phear Phace, Shekel, Chrispy, Dr Philth, Davr, Dayn, Reso, Bare, and Wonkap. You can get alot of free music from blogs, but I just cant wait to get a job so I can start getting alot more music.

anyone know any artist simillar to Martyn? ive been looking for more of the chill shit recently. if you dont know who martyn is… well check his shit out
Hey i didn’t read the whole thread but i’m a house/bmore/dubstep dj from philly.
i am a featured dj on sound4themasses.com with a mix i did for them that has a good 20 minutes of hip hop cut with dubstep. go under the DJ’s section and go to DJ ADUB…
CHEERS!
oh and if you live in philly comes to all my events!
And yeah Skrillex is pretty sick. Some people criticize his production, but I don’t see why. His stuff seems a lot more unique compared to other mainstream producers.
