I’m assuming girl with a cape and helmet is chichi, but not sure about the other one.
I gotta say I agree with Sprawlers on this one. I’ll play with or without potaras as I really just want T3 scene to exist. However being around tourneys for so long I never had any hope for potaras to be allowed. The one thing I dislike about the fighting game community is that they try and homogenize everything. DBZ T3 is a very different beast than super turbo and isn’t necessarily aimed at the exact same demographic. Iwould much rather play a game that is incredibly defined on its own and allows for a different set of strategies or skills than for it to be yet another gg clone or something. The only good reason I see for not allowing for potaras is how it would slow down tournies. Also why are banning things purely on theory? Shouldn’t we put these things into practice and at least try it out before we shape the scene? Stages and items werent completely banned from smash before the first tourney was even played were they?
see, here’s where we should really put Sirlin’s theory to the test and start by playing the game against each other on DEFAULT SETTINGS.
then, if changes need to be made to balance out something completely unfair, then we should do that.
The Order of things vs. Customization
In the history of Competitive gaming now known as (Pro Gaming), rules have been laid down to give order to how gamers compete. It is very simple. Customizing allows too many random variables through innovative minds which breaks down the order in any structured tournament. Hence why in CVS2 Custom Characters are band. Hence why Items have been removed in Super Smash Brothers 64 and Melee (which I don’t agree with) and customization in any fighting game throughout the competitive gaming history has been denied.
It is simple…learn to play the game for its default settings and not you custom set up because you can not compete on a fair playing ground. That is why you low level gamers do not currently compete in the fighting games that exist today. You stand there and wait for a game that gives you a helping hand to get a win to promote your pathetic name.
Weak.
Do as you must, we will do what we always do. See you on the battlefield.
TriForce
Yah, but this isn’t CvS2 and no where near it. I’m not taking sides or anything but Sprawlers, answer my question. If the game is so dependent on portaras why can’t 2p use their own memory card for their custom characters!!!
just use a password character instead
BT2 Passwords Work In BT3

so is this game worth buying? i have all of the tenkaichi games but im not sure about this one
It isnt even about all that. It was clear that the game was made with potaras in mind to start with. Playing with or without potara’s is fine with me. But as the guy said, This isnt cvs2 with that busted dumbshit. I bet almost none of you who are downing customs have even tried using them. And if you did you would be afraid that you actually LIKE the changes. But thats fine. No need to insult people for voicing there opinions either. That is just childish and silly.
Most importantly if you are so into the games as you took your time to post insults to people, why not help build a community for it?
This is the reason why the game should be left to default. It equally solves most, if not all of these problems.
My intolerant spat is to no one in general but to everyone who fits the “shoe”. Jeron and others in our “community” have already played the Dragon Ball Series competitively for some time now and have made tournaments for them and are trying to push the series to a true competitive level. As for the the customs we’ve tried it and what happens is simply this…
In a fight we find things that unbalances the already unbalanced characters which then forces the players to build a character with the moves to counter the original unbalanced custom characters. Instead of playing DBZT3 we are playing Fighter Maker 3. This discussion is dragged out in our store every single day. Its to the point that its tedious. It has brought Jeron to the point of just getting a camcorder and showing the community high level play and what beats what, mis-matches, and counter picking characters.
You are right this is not CVS2, however with the experience that Jeron has in fighting games throughout his competitive gaming career we know why “Customizing” is not tolerated “ANYWHERE” but a casual community or local setting. The game is too indepth with a great line up of characters to be just a local fighting game.
In closing please excuse my indifferent approach to the matter, but my point still stands. Low level trash gamers need to work…not look for an alternative solution to be recognized because they can’t compete in a “Standard, Structured, Setting”.
Step your game up!
My “game” is fine. I dont need to step anything up. I said I would play the game either way so please dont ignore the fact that ive stated that already. Also, if you guys play the game at such a “higher level” Why dont you guys share your information with others? Is it SOOO Top secret that only top players get to know about it. We want a growing community and honestly it seems to me you guys want to be seperate from being a WHOLE community. Which isnt really fair to those who actually want to play the game like myself. But if you wanna seperate, thats your call. Just isnt helping an already non existing community.
Jeron was supposed to post videos of tenkaichi gameplay back in Tenkaichi 2 but never did. So it leaves me to wonder what happened with that exactly?
What is just “play” the game suppose to mean? WTF why does that even have to be asked? Am I not speaking english? youve played in tournments for a long time why cant you understand such a simple contest. You have a bunch of bogus rules. No transformation characters and shit? WTF happens to the random ones like master roshi or some shit. Or just anyone in the game your takeing them all away. And that moon crap? WTF your only allowed to turn great ape if you were on a stage with a moon. That is ghetto as fuck dude. Doesnt even make sence, are you trying to make it like the anime or something? Cuz it sounds hella dorky. Like you have to power up or some shit in a fight. Just play the game with whats there. I dont see whats so complicated about that. Im not for customizeing but id deffintly rather have that then some random rules that keeps people from playing the characters they want. What if someone liked janemba. His transformation isnt even slightly the same. But I guess you cant pick him off the bat. You have to transform in battle? That is really dum.
Also I really dont see why people should get all horny about calling them selfs top players in the game and what not. The game has never had some huge tourny scene, so calling yourself high level etc is taken with a huge grain of salt.
And yea I dunno what TFGM is saying. You say play the game on default settings. But then your talking about jeron who just said you guys play with random ass rules like no trasnformed characters and tournies are tag battles… Really random. So how the hell is that default?
Ironically this will be the first time I COMPLETELY agree with you
I’m going to assume that you did not completely comprehend my reply to you. My explanation was to the general public based on your statement regarding my original post. It was not to specifically single you out to step your game up. You should tread carefully as to not implicate yourself.
This so call top secret information we are “CURRENTLY” trying to get, is footage to show you and the community as previously stated. We are not trying to hide anything. Do not try to imply that we are separating the community because we are not. We’ve had these run ins with previous gamers who try to do their own thing for their own self gain. I personally am just tired of the explaining. So I try to be as forthcoming as possible without being specific to anyone so as to cut to the chase. To take my words directly is a act of insecurity, especially when I did not say your name.
As for the videos of T2 due to the current load of work at our store we have not gotten to it yet and we will in the immediate future. Jeron is personally working on it.
Well see then…This was months ago but it would be nice to see something soon i guess
As for your reading comment, yes i have reading comprehension issues. I dont read everything the way it was written the first time.
I said that fighting games in general should be played at default settings. I’m not sure if there is a practical way of saying it, so allow me to break it down to its simplistic fundamental form. In my 26 years of gaming with information and some experiences from Nintendo World Championships, Nintendo Powerfest, Block Buster World Championships, B Series/Evo, MLG, to local and regional community competition, in a variety of games spreading 6 genres, I have always known that all games played competitively should be played at default settings. The only reason anyone should even be in the option screen is to set their buttons as to how they control their character and adjusting time and rounds to specific tournament rules and discretion.
No codes, No passwords, No handicaps, no Secret Characters and No Glitches. These rules have been the foundation to countless structured tournaments not long before I started playing video games at 4 years old. I understand change is required for evolution in competitive gaming however the fundamental principles should always stay true to its original form. If not, then there is no principle foundation to build further on. I don’t know what you may have comprehended in my last post but this is the meaning of what I’m talking about. I have not agreed on anything Jeron has said “Specifically”. I am just saying play the game based on the fundamental principle of competitive gaming.
Do you understand now?
Super DBZ is a game where tournament level makes use of built up characters that are fully customized. You will find much less “default” tournaments so to speak than customized tournaments. And Super DBZ is a respected fighting game. It had quite a bit of a scene. Not sure if it still does.
As I mentioned earlier, Tenkaichi 3 was designed with potaras in mind. By playing the game with normal settings, you do keep things relatively simple for large scale tournaments, but that still doesn’t make your tournament any more legit than a tournament that uses customization.
This isn’t Capcom vs SNK 2, where the fighting engine is totally established before the customization is added to a console port. Tenkaichi 3 was clearly designed with potaras in mind. Why else would you expect high stat characters like SSJ4 Gogeta to be very limited in terms of B1 strategy compared to a low stat character like Chiaotzu? Why is it the characters with lower stats have such an easy ability to make use of clever potara set-ups? Spike creates the game with potaras in mind.
It looks like to me Spike didn’t intend any competitive scene to ignore the use of potaras. You do get the vicious cycle of one set-up countering another that you fear so much, but thats why you stick with one set-up all the way through. You think and make sure your potara set-up doesn’t get countered easily. Just think of potara set-ups as different versions of the same guy. I mean this is really not much different than say, SSBM, where counterpicking plays a huge role.
I would only go with non customization for big tournaments because it would speed up the flow of the tournament. But if time is no issue, go with potaras… because the game was clearly designed with potaras in mind, while the majority of other fighters don’t follow any similar pattern.
Interesting perspective. However it alone can not stand against the foundation and principle of competitive gaming.
I don’t know why trying it with a new way would be a bad thing. Sure there is foundation and principle of competitive gaming, but you can never be sure of anything if you never challenge it. This game seems, and I can’t say for certain myself because I would not call myself a top player I would defer to Sprawl’s argument in that case, is a game that may be much more a different case, in which case you should look at it somewhat differently than other games you may associate it with.
Consider MLG’s handling of Halo 3, in which there are default settings for all competitive gametypes they run in tournaments, however not all defaults are used. I’m unsure how they come to such decisions regarding what needs to be changed, but they are willing to customize the experience in a way they think enhances the game competitively, and I’m sure if it doesn’t work, they’ll switch it up.
You never rebutted my statement.
SDBZ, the customization in that game was personal to each char.
As far as I know, no other game really use the system that SDBZ does.
The chars. are more akin to EX chars.
It’s like having the difference between REG and EX chars. in CVS1.
If I remember correctly, the way that the abilities branched was pretty limited as well. So it’s not as though you have inf possibility. Even Customization in SDBZ was limited in that regard.
Also, why do you say that Spike intended for customization to be used?
I would think that the statement:
“Why else would you expect high stat characters like SSJ4 Gogeta to be very limited in terms of B1 strategy compared to a low stat character like Chiaotzu”
goes against customization.
Why is it that chars. with high stats have bad B1s?
While chars with low stats have better B1s?
That sounds like balance to me right there.
Good Stats vs Good Abilities
Maybe that’s my problem, I don’t see all these hidden messages that Spike hid in their game.
That again, maybe that’s my problem. I don’t understand that if Spike intended for us to use custom chars. Why didn’t they just make it mandatory instead of giving us the choice to use normal chars?
Besides, it’s not as though lower tiered chars. have no chance against higher tier chars. Spike also added a bunch of defensive options already. That being the case, Top tier chars. don’t steamroll over low tier chars.
In the end, customs or not, it comes down to the skill of the player.
