I disagree,
I mean, the Potaras add a bit of depth. But it’s a double-edged sword cause chars. that are already good, become better with these customizations.
Take the example, GogetaSSJ4 vs Grampa Gohan
A lower tiered char. taking on a higher tier char. right?
With B1-1 potara, Gohan becomes even better.
but why can’t Gogeta put on some Potaras to even out those advantages.
What’s stopping top tiers from making the gap from top tier from low tier even more skewed?
You can’t have low tier chars. become better while top tier chars. gaining nothing.
About Super Dragon Ball Z,
from what I remember, yeah customization was a huge part of “that” game.
However, each customization was personal for that particular char.
It’s not like T3, where every char. has the same customization.
It’s like saying, you give someone like King in CVS2 the ability to Chain and Cancel in P groove.
Yeah, maybe that lets her hang with the higher tier chars.
But than give that same ability to Cammy, Sagat, Geese.
That makes them that much more better.
I say it’s stupid to allow customization.
It exposes the natural top tier, while makeing the game more about counter potara’ing than char vs char.
Spawlers: While you bring up a semi-good debate once again I will explain why this is not a accepted amongst the many. If your saying that customs are only looked down upon on Arcade to console ports only that is not true. WWF Wrestlemania, No Mercy etc. which came out on the 64 had a mode where you can customize your characters. There was a thread on the Evo forums about some grudge matches that was suppose to go down and they declined the use of Custom or edit characters for they’re matches so no this is not generalized to one set of demographic or audience at all.
Also if Im neglecting a big part off the game then a big majority of the people I play also disagree so once again its personal prefernce. Maybe a character you like is weak and you want an edge but like scooter stated you can have a beefed up low tier and make him mid but what does that change for making a top tier character even stronger than what he is? Which this in turn puts the lower tier in the same position. The bottom line is we dont want to mess with the tiering in any way just to give someone an edge in a fight. Either learn that character to theyre fullest ability or pick someone else its simple!
Again Im not just saying this upon personal prefernce, custom anything is just something that is widely not accepted by the general population.
We had a situation where one guy wanted to use a custom character and the other person didnt. Although it wasnt in his favor he allowed him to use the custom character while he used the normal one. (This was BT2 btw) In the end is it fair game and why should that guy be subjected to making a custom character when he doesnt want to and just use the moves and tools which is given to him in thne game?
…No its not fair so to eliminate that problem neither side will have an advantage or disadvantage so you eliminate the use of it altogether. Once again if you are using customs online or in casuals it is ok if the other person agrees but in no way will that be allowed in competitive play where people are putting theyre money up for it.
I mentioned here about the 60 man BT2 tournament a couple of months back and NOONE Complained about not being able to use customs not to mention the few tournies I ran which again noone complained about it so this argument wont go far with people.
The only thing I got out of your argument is that people won’t accept customs because although the lower tiers get better, the top tiers improve just as much, not changing the flow of the game in the long run.
Is that the only reason? I’d like to know for sure before I rebut.
Disc fusion gives you some random mode that you wont even care about
On the particular topic at hand: The events and tournys that i will probably be trying to host along with sprawlers WILL allow for customs and non customs. I am also making a competitive website for this game too so people have a place to talk about the game more indepth
Wrestling games normally have neither real restrictions on character creation nor even much particular balance between moves. Their engines aren’t designed for balance, but rather the freedom to recreate (to varying degrees) nearly any real or fictional character. Having a grudge match using custom wrestlers is kind of like a grudge match with customized MUGEN characters.
That isn’t the same with either SDBZ or BT. For those games, there has been at least some effort made towards balancing customization.
Man they changed up this game considerably from bt2…it feels like i have to relearn most of the stuff almost from scratch. A few things bug me but at the same time are sorta helpful for the game from my POV. One thing…I don’t like the fact that you have to press up and X to dash towards people…at first anyway i’m sure i’ll get used too it but it every so often when i’m not in close fighting mode i’ll hit just x because i’m so used to it from the first 2 games. One the other the hand it movement system feels more free. It’s going to be a pain getting used to hitting x twice for a grab but I’ll get over it. They took out the ability to put more power into your blasts when you get into a ki blast struggle :(. But in exchange for that we get boost for just about every move…Can anyone tell me a reason NOT to boost your attacks? Is there Any neg to doing it or does it cost anything cause i haven’t noticed. Has anyone figured out how to really put the close throw supers to good use? (I.E. Broly’s gigantic hammer and 16’s hell’s flash). How tight is the timing for the up square counter? I haven’t really been able to hit this thing save on accident. How do you do the sway thing i’ve seen you guys do in the vids?..i’m unsure how to activate it. That’s all right now.
Sonichuman: Z counter 2 is VERY hard to time. You have to actually do it RIGHT as your getting hit. Not before or after. RIGHT during the hit. Anytime before or after and you will miss it.
Man, this game feels so different from BT2. Especially the Ki deflect, which is what’s messing with my head the most right now. I am kinda mad that they made 18’s ‘Super Unyielding Spirit’ three stocks now instead of two. That kind of takes a good bit of her later match strength/strat out ;_;.
Yeah thats partially correct as well but also why do you want to change a game that doesnt need changing. This is the last post Im making in regards to this so Im gonna keep it blunt. I’ve been running tournaments under this banner for a quite some time (almost 4 years) I’ve been out there and I’ve been in alot of communities and I know what the majority of people want. I dont want to come off like a jerk because Im far from it but if you guys want to change the rules and settings for your tournies then more more power to you. Seems like your trying to divide an already non-established commmunity. Its gonna be on the comeup but your making it difficult if your making people choose already! I already know what Im doing and what I’ve got planned for this game on the competition aspect which is going to roll off into Magfest next year!
Chipp: I think thats great to have a site dedicated for DBZ games! Wish you the best of luck with it!
Once again you guys are entitled to your opinion…I respect that but adding Red Portas and Customs alike is gonna detur from the game and make it another one. Thats all I have to say about it.
This is not official in writing yet but what has worked so far in the last game (BT2) for tournaments were gonna use a similar format in terms of rules which are so far…
2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3
No Customs
No picking Transformation characters off the back ie: you cant pick Broly “The Legendary Super Saiyans” form first. You have to pick level 1 and transform in the game
Tournament Arena Banned
No double Fusion characters! Ie: If you pick SSJ4 Vegeta with SSJ4 Goku you cant pick Gogeta as another character seperate from the fusion one. (This one is still in the works)
Random Select Stages
*** certain characters may fall as an exception to this rule*** For instance Fasha can only turn Great Ape if shes on a stage with a Moon so first game will be random select and second and third game the player will have priority to pick a stage (which is only fair to ppl playing those characters)
So far this is what were looking at under standard rules which worked so well with the last game so we’ll see what happens?
btw Im missing 4 people
General Tao (Sword) Guy next to Frieza Solider and the girl with the Helmet and cape suit next to Kid Goku! Anyone know how you unlock? Thanks!
I think Chipp already hit it right on. PS2 if you want to go competetive, Wi if you want casual. Im gonna get the Wi version too even though I dont think Im gonna like the controlls for it. Dont know how theyre gonna make it work even with that classic controller but we’ll see.
This game is sick. I’m impressed. Me and my friend have already started playing on PS2 and I will be getting it for the Wii. This has to be the most balanced 3d Z fighter yet.
I have one question though. Sprawlers, why can’t me and my friend both use our customs? When we do 2p Duel mode it only reads 1p customs even for 2p. WTF, it never used to do
that for all the other budokais…
WTF those are some pretty bogus sounding rules. Id rather play with the earings then play with shit like that. Always 2 on 2 or 3 on 3. Cant transform yadda yadda. WTF just play the game guys. Why cant you play it like a normal fighting game one on one 2 out of 3 matchs for a team tourny.
And one arguement against earings, is if the game ever did get played seriously then youd have to wait 5 mins before every match for someone to get there “set up” right. And that is not reasonable if the game acctualy got big. Tournies would take ridiculous time with everyone wanting to set all there stuff up exactly. Plus it assumes that everyone has easy access to the game, and elinates the casual player that just wants to enter the tourny for fun. He wont know wtf is going on when he has to put on earings and he wont have good as grasp of it.
Anyway yea umm just play the game. Stop with the bogus rules… Earings are fine for fun and stuff but if the game every got played seriously its just not reasonable.
LOL SRK!!! How I miss this site!!!
You know its easy for people to make a mark on a game if it isnt freaking Guilty Gear or Street Fighter. Those rules weren’t made by just myself but collectively of people that play the game as well competitevley. Your entitled to your opinion but keep it as just that and dont broaden it for everyone else.
If you dont like the rules then again fine but noones putting a gun to your head and you dont have to show for them if you dont want. If you wanna get loud about it we can get loud but were not kids here and certain things like opinions can be handled more maturley and thats all I have to say about it.
Now if you ask me why is it structured this way and so forth like Spawlewrs did then lol I really dont have a problem explaining why. After all Im not about dismissing anything people have to say about theyre games or theyre opinions because once again were all grown (well most of us anyway)
Also I dont see the point in coming in here making negative spews about the this and why people should just “PLAY” the game!! Whats that suppose to mean?
…Anyway Chipp Im gonna subscribe to your forums man. I already planned to so dont jump the gun I’ve already to talked to some of my side about your site so its all good. In the end the end whether we agree with some things or not I think we can grasp the overall picture and thats to bring more exposure to great game and cater to people that have love for the game and not bash on it because they think Street Fighter or Jojo’s Fucking adventure is better!!
lol just blowing off steam!
