Just thought I’d let those who might be interested (and can read Japanese), FSDJ has started compiling combo lists and strategies for Mai based on the location test. So it’s a thread to keep an eye on.
It is awkward that they’re releasing 3 costumes across 6 characters instead of like all of the previous costume packs where at least each character in the pack got some sort of unique costume.
Just going to copy and paste the summary I made from another website:
Spoiler
Holy… Mai looks really gorgeous in this game.
0:09 So, Mai actually can perform a variation of her DP+K from KOF98.
That elbow strike looks like something from her Hissatsu Shinobi Bachi, but
she just rushes in, causing a stun state. I can already that being utilized as
a whiff punish a lot. It stuns on regular hit. It also might be unsafe on block
and the players from Team Ninja seem to be use her DP+K move after it (I don’t know if they
are canceling that elbow strike or if that move is actually a part of the string).
0:20 Mai’s close C is manifested here! Mai’s far D (or rather, her far
standing heavy kick from CVS2) is also shown her and it apparently stuns.
0:49 Uh oh… … Heh, heh, heh…! KACHOUSEN! KACHOUSEN! So the projectile
actually remains. Somebody out there is going to complain about Mai being able to
use this here. I smell a potential scrub-killer here. @d3v is going to have a lot of fun
with this one. It even stuns on counter hit!
Wooo, she looks so majestic while using her Ryuuenbuu! A sight to be behold.
Mai’s cr.D animation from previous KOF games is present. 1:43 Interesting string! Looks as
if she is perform a jab into her st.B~st.D target combo. That st.B~st.D target combo appears
to be based on how it was in XIII. I suspect that Mai’s Ryuuenbuu has tracking properties.
2:14 Kagero no Mai. I want to believe that P1 Mai was not close enough for the
string to hit her out of it. It would be crazy if Mai had actual invincibility on startup from that
move like she does in her previous game.
The Kachousen is a high. The other player will be crouch it. 5:20 She has
her back throw from previous KOF/Fatal Fury games. She is also apparently able to
perform jumps, as demostrated in a previous Mai showcase, much earlier on. It looked as
if she was perform her jumping B (it would be diabolical if it could also cross up as well).
5:28 = Looks like a pretty combo when carrying the opponent towards the wall.
5:44 = Low seems to have quite a bit of reach.
Even in these more generic costumes, Mai still looks really stunning.
As stated before, Mai has her f+B from KOF98. That hopping front kick attack.
It is a mid kick and it will end up causing a sit-down stun. Oh, we have
wall combos! Impressive!
6:05 I don’t think I’ve ever seen that throw before.
6:39 Mai used some sort of SS move (probably SS+P) to stun the opponent and then
she canceled that into her Kagero no Mai.
Ryuuenbuu is also apparently useful in wall juggles as well.
7:25 I never seen that either. That looks completely new altogether.
Mai in the bunny outfit, though. <3
9:29 Oh my goodness, that was beautiful. And, that’s a low hold. A double
Ryuuenbuu.
9:38 That’s actually her C throw from the KOF games.
The Kachousen can actually be side walked as well. The pay off of having such
a projectile in DOA. Mai would still make Genra (Omega) happy as fuck though. @DestructionBomb wins again :D.
10:22 I think I just saw Kagero no Mai get Side Stepped.
11:34 <3 <3 <3
