DOA5 Ultimate/Last Round Thread

This won’t really do anything lol

I gotta love the logic here. It’s fine if fighting games include extreme violence and fatalities but apparently sexually appealing women is the line we dare not cross.

Welcome to American mores on sex and violence. The latter is ok, the former is not.

The costumes are “soft-banned” and apply only to the stream stations.

Alot of those rules reflect the games spotty history when it comes to corporate support for tournaments, especially for 4. @Sorwah can probably explain it better (since he owns the site), but I believe that alot of the weirdness in 4s rules were not exactly there because the community wanted them.

On a related note, you can clearly see that 5 doesn’t have much of the same weirdness in its rules anymore.

Yes, that’s correct. DOA4’s character bans were bans by Championship Gaming Series and World Cyber Games against the community’s decision. I believe Tengu was banned in WCG for DOA4 because they didn’t want to go through the tediousness of unlocking him… Spartan was banned in both due to licensing issues that both companies didn’t have rights to, you also couldn’t play on the Halo stage as well due to it.

CGS even decided it’s competitive format was going to be 5 single-round matches at largest life. Nothing like starting at the top of the rope bridge every single round against Hayabusa.

Seems like they are just trying to improve public perception of DOA. I mean it is obvious what the #1 thing DOA is known for, they probably want the #1 thing to be that it is a quality fighting franchise. Maybe it gets more people to try it out.

Bought it on PS4. I like it.

And so many waifus in one game, it’s like heaven /biblethump

Rachel is my favorite so far. She hits like a truck. But Tina is nice too and Christie as well… damn you Team Ninja.

Seriously its pretty sad with the costume bans and all. Feels like the community should just embrace the weirdness that comes with DoA like how mortal kombat is still running with the overly violent nonsense.

To be honest I don’t know if it will do much to convince people. If you’re the kind of person who won’t pick up DOA cause of the T&A it’s likely you’re also the same person who wouldn’t pick cammy or INO. The very fact that these women are curvy and hot might be enough to turn people off even if they wear full body suits covering their face.

I think the problem is actually similar to mortal kombat. Many players probably get the impression that the focus of the game isn’t gameplay, but rather something else. In Mortal Kombat gratuitous violence. In DOA, T+A.

Rachel can do a bit of set play due to the fact that her stomp (2K when the opponent is knocked down) force techs.

Optimal stuff is to do 41236T , 9P, T, P, K then stomp (2K) one they’re on their back. At that point, I believe they can’t do wake up kicks and have to either eat the stomp, or tech out of the knockdown. That said, 2K isn’t exactly safe on whiff, so you need to predict what they’ll do and use the threat of it to force them to stand instead of just tossing it out willy nilly.

Costume bans are a bit strange. Kind of a “damned if you do and damned if you don’t” scenario. But, this is how the cookie crumbles.

Someone was uploading snapshots of the “banned” costumes. And some of them make absolutely no sense.

This is some school grade level dress code bullshit if they think they can completely enforce this on 16/17+ rated game. The outfits comply with the games age rating so if that rustles feathers then people need to remember not everything in this world can be PG-friendly. Attempting to make the broadcast friendlier to children when they shouldn’t [legally] even be checking this game baffles me.

LATE EDIT:
Before I get blown up I did a bit of reading and I’m aware that this list is not hard-enforced but “suggested” to TO’s to assist in helping DOA’s image. And LOL at that. This entire costume ban list just screams white knight and butthurt SJW to me but whatever. Be interesting to see how many TO’s completely agree with it or just let things roll.

Ninja outfits aren’t soft banned. The Aloha outfits are, and they’re exclusive to the PS4/XBO versions of the game. Due to their exclusivity, the PS3/360 costume list is desynchronized from the PS4/XBO. The soft banned costumes are from the PS4 list of costumes since that’s the tournament standard console.

It’s not illegal for a minor to play or view an M-rated game.

Nothing about appealing to children. Most people who play fighting games love fucking their girlfriends, enjoy porn, etc. It is about the perception that the game is all about fanservice. Same reason tons of hate against all female fighting games. The companies are putting so much effort in giving erections to its players, rather than designing a good game. At least that is the perception.

For people more concerned about gameplay, here’s an explanation of stuff you can do with button guard vs directional guard.

That list was made with the input of the Hubbs, who I believe runs most DOA tournaments for Big E.

Didn’t know her stomp is that important. But as soon as I saw this move, it reminded me of Ivy from SC (my SC main). Well her attitude and outfit is similar to her, so yeah.

Will try the stuff you mentioned today after work. I just messed around with the combo training mode a bit and after trying them in practice mode against another character (Bass) it whiffed. Are most of the combos there character specific?

Weight specific. Bass is a heavyweight (just like Rachel) and some combo will miss on him.

When fighting heavyweights (mostly grapplers) it best to try to hit them out of a throw attempt since that counts as a counter-hit.

Which is stupid, there is an age rate for a reason.
If kids are not allowed to see a porn they shouldn’t be able to play a game rated M

Age gate has only traditionally been applied to the point of sale/purchase.

A decent tutorial for those who are interested in the game and being taught from a what appears to be a well-rounded FGC player. There’s more than a few things I disagree with the guy on, but it’s a pretty good video to get your feet wet in the game’s system. He doesn’t go over the differences between Side Step and Free Step, and when he performs a Free Step he thinks it’s a glitch. He also gets some things factually wrong, like the reason for why you have to recalculate the disadvantage, and throws you just add 1 frame instead of his suggested 2. But again as far as basics go, it’s a decent tutorial.

That thumbnail though…
