Also, the ones that fire for free only cover one defensive aspect and consume all 3 gem slots. Their options are a bit tied up in that case, but the argument that you won’t even need boosts when you’ve compromised a chunk of the opponent’s guessing games can crop up, yet remains to be seen.
I’m thinking the EX ones (that activate for free)…something’s up with them though, given that they flat-out obsolete the equivalent, non-EX (but still premium) Lv.3 gems.
My money’s on one of the following:
A) They’re artifacts (i.e. unused)
B) They require more than three slots (playing into the theory of there being a max gem slot increase down the road) and the display of (3) is a bug, since there’s only 3 slots available in the version of the game used in that video.
C) They’re CPU only, for some kind of future mission mode AI opponents.
See, that whole concept bothers me on a fundamental level. Now TO’s are going to be expected to devise an allowed or banned GEM LIST prior to a tournament? This is starting to sound like Smash tournament rules.
If gems were never meant to be properly balanced by the creators of the system itself, then maybe they should just be avoided in tournaments altogether.
So let’s say you get that autoblock gem Lv 3, that takes 3 slots. Isn’t there a gem loadout that can compete with that? With certain gems can’t you stack like 50-60% attack power? you could cross cancel into tagout for nasty combo or something couldn’t you?
Especially because autoblock only works when you are doing absolutely nothing but standing ther… it’s not like people are impossible to hit, and it’s not like it even works well for most the characters (just the ones with extremely good pokes and don’t need to jump at all). All they really accomplish is for the opponent to stand there and wait for an unsafe attack so they can easy punish… Just do safe aggression (which you should be doing anyway).
Once again, people are greatly over exaggerating the DLC gems, and getting all “the sky is falling!” when it was not even announced which gems are going to be paid and which will come w/ the expansions. Sad part is the current autoblock gem templates are the biggest worry (who needs cheaper cost when even with the current gems you won’t run out of meter unless ur bad at blocking anyway?), and their not even that bad to fight.
Gems are generally pointless not because of what they do but the fact that they aren’t really interesting:
normal gem +10%
dlc gem +20%
Yeah it does matter by the numbers but in a match you aren’t tracking that…you’re too busy blocking or pressuring to often notice the difference.
Now if gems that offered ACTUAL modification for your dude aside from % then it would be more serious. Imagine a dlc gem that grants super armor on heavy punch, kick, and launcher and costs one bar when if you are hit, or a gem that increases your throw range.
If buying and using dlc gems put a permanent mark on your sfxt profile then I would simply laugh at players that do that and still lose to a player that EARNED that win and not attempted to pay for it.
wut. dude some SNES games were 60+ easy the day they were available. at k-mart.
get out of here. the shitty part is having to buy the game in pieces because it decentralizes things. it’s not convenient when every person has a slightly different version of the game.
Why is that even a problem? It’s not like they will have to be devising new lists every week. They said they were meant to be balanced but, hey, we know how that goes right? It’s not even a question of balance. Say a gem nullifies a fundamental part of FG gameplay, such as mixups. It might be balanced on paper but we as a community may opt to consider it a no-go and make such a gem banned because we like mixups in our games.
The autoblock gem isn’t a big deal at all. The auto throw tech gem however is really completely overpowered. Anyone who knows how these games work should be able to clearly see that. All the others seem fine to me but the auto throw tech needs to be either removed or made to cost a full bar(or more, hopefully). It really isn’t particularly easy to throw someone in this game to begin with, with auto tech gem you’re basically invincible if you just decide to turtle.
Doesnt really change that your just waiting for your opponent to attack and punishing them for being unsafe (which was my main point), and most overheads in this game are safe on block anyway. Although overheads are a perfect way to get them to waste their meter and punish them for using the gem =p
Gems don’t make the player. Most (MOST) of the assist gems burn meter when used.
I don’t know if you guys are aware of this or not, but meter is pretty important in this game. I really haven’t ran into a situation where gems have tipped the scales too much. Yeah they suck. Yeah it’s a stupid mechanic. Yeah DLC gems are better than standard gems. Yeah Capcom is greedy. However, I’d rather have gems than xfactor or ultra.
Don’t let something like this make you enjoy the game less. Take it for what it is. Step your game up to the level it needs to be to push in the gem riders, and have fun. Relax. Any “broken” gems will be (hopefully) patched and banned in competitive play.
DLC gems and pre order exclusive gems suck, and there’s no way around it. Imagine playing COD and having to pre order from Best Buy to get certain perks…or even worse having to pay for perks.
