DLC Gems are stronger than "Regular" Gems

I don’t know. Also you can equip multiple assist gems, you just can’t equip that combination of auto tech and auto block at the same time.

Also, it’s kind of hard to miss seeing it mid match, assist gems are always glowing pink/purple. Do you still have the replay?

Uhm, maybe in a battle log somewhere, but I didn’t save it. I fought the guy’s Kazuya multiple times though, so possibly.

I try not to pay attention to the mess of colors that is gems and just focus on the battle.

go play art then or something. not all people w/ auto-block are good. not all people w/ auto-block are bad. it just takes out a lot of the mix-ups especially the new dlc ones costing so little.

Someone mentioned this earlier, but there wasn’t much discussion: Doesn’t the assist gem called “Boost Effect Extend Lv3” suggest that you will be able to equip more gems per character at some point?

Sure, but what if he fought another player on his level who was or wasn’t using it? How far is the extent of the autoblock going to assist him versus how much EX meter he would need to use for damage and escape? It’s a sacrifice and balance. My point is that it’s not as overbearing as it looks on paper.

People claim these are either scrubby or overpowered. They can be scrubby but they won’t help a bad or new player that greatly. If top players use it against each other, I’m curious to see how much they will balance their meter with it. And if it’s sustainable to build up that much during the match for auto blocking bad reads and using it for damage and defense.

Possibly.
That could simply be a remnant of programming left in the game, from when 5 gems was the standard.

You got it backwards if ANY company other than Capcom made a game that played, sounded and looked like SFIV/SFxTekken they would get laughed off the planet.

Oh I see. Thanks.

It looks to me that gems will probably stay banned in tournaments

Yeah, on every country in latin america you need to pay $100 for each game if you buy them on Malls/official stores or you can get them for $80 with other guys in popular markets, then add day 1 premium content and you have a $120 game :stuck_out_tongue:

Really?

The quote was an interpretation of how I read it. Nobody spins words around in such literal fashion, quotation marks and all. I’m seriously being civil here.

That’s right. And my point is that won’t be the case with this content.

Not really.

You know people keep saying stuff like this, and I’ve asked multiple times, what gems exactly am I supposed to be scared of because they are “better” than any I have? I dont see a single one on that list I’m worried about.

Still waiting…

The extra chip damage, the Ultimate defense, easy links, and more health all come to mind.

Theres no doubt people will still be beatable. However, I will be very sad when I lose that game, because of that gem. I don’t see any in game gems on par with the dlc gems. Maybe you can run at 98% efficiency without dlc gems, but that extra 2% you will have to pay for. Thats how I see it.

You mean the gems that take up multiple slots? Those are most of the least worrisome ones on the list as your sacrificing a full gem build.

And when it comes to the higher level boost gems… those are such high requirements that they are largely irrelevant anyway.

I think the assist gems were never intended for tournament play.
Everyone is cry cry cry, and so far no one knows what the majors are doing with gems. Why not wait and see how they are handled?
No one will ever get credit for being a good player while using “auto block”.
And no one knows if the gem dlc will be for money.
I think the bottom line here is, this is a fun game with gems.
If you don’t want to play it, don’t play it.

Also, I keep this game and my profile on a flash drive now. I am glad the dlc is on disk. My only problem is I can’t just buy it now. I’ll buy whatever the got to buy, because I want to see more games like this in the future. That’s my 2 cents.
Some people can’t see logic however.

@ spyridon. I already listed some example of gems I dislike and why I dislike them. Are assist gems that are twice as effective as the default, and still take up a single slot, not something to be annoyed about? That is the issue, there are DLC gems that are twice as effective and at no additional penalty. A gem that allows me to auto throw escape at 1/4th a bar is overkill. I already felt that it should have been a full bar instead of half a bar.

I am not saying any of these gems are going to have good players losing to bad players because they bought gems. However they WILL make a difference when the skill level is the same. If we were to take a magical scenario where I am fighting myself but one me has paid for better gems. The one who bought the dlc will have an advantage and win more games. There is no argument around this.

@mutesilence. While its true we don’t know if the gems will cost more money, I have to ask. What do you think the point was for capcom to include two gems that activate under the exact same conditions, use the same amount of slots can’t be stacked, but one is twice as effective as the other? Why make two? The moment the better one becomes available be it paid or free the other one is obsolete.

And I never said I wasn’t enjoying the game. I really do enjoy it. I enjoy the current gems too. In fact I think the Iron Wall gems need to be buffed as right now they are just horrible choices compared to fortitude. (Or fortitude lowered for being too good). But is it wrong to think that the gems should be BALANCED? There is no point in having the ability to “customize your fighters” when there is an obvious, better build especially if in order to get that build you have to pay extra. For example, there is the default immense power level 2. 20% more damage 10% less speed, 15 seconds, for hitting your opponent 10 times.

The SE version for people who paid more is the exact same gem, in every aspect except it doesn’t have the penalty. It still is only taking up one slot. It is just a flat better gem. So again, me vs me, the one who bought the SE can now play footsies better and will win more games because even though its a tiny advantage it is still an advantage he got from paying extra. And it is because of this that gems should not be allowed in a tournament setting. Any advantage outside of skill, no matter how minor. Should not be allowed.

P.S. Can this thread stop talking about “DLC on disk?” That has absolutely nothing to do with the actual topic at hand. DLC gems that are blatantly better than others are wrong despite it being on disk or not.

I really don’t see the big deal with the DLC gems. I’m pretty sure TO’s will devise rulesets on what gems are allowed (if any are allowed) while more casual players can use whatever they like. Let’s not also forget that this concept is quite in its infancy so we don’t know where things might go from here. It all depends on customer reception. Capcom could categorize gems in the same manner MtG had Legal, Limited and Banned cards. Players could then be given the option to make lobbies and choose which category of gems they want to allow. Ranked matches could be permanently set to Legal or whatever.

Getting off topic, but I remember paying nearly $80 for Earthworm Jim on the SNES back in the day.

On topic, I really do hope gems get banned from serious tournament play. When you have versions of DLC gems that are the exact same as non-DLC gems, just without their negative effects… it’s obvious where it’s headed. Pay to win. While having DLC gems doesn’t make you a great player - if you are a great player fighting another great player who is using non-DLC gems, you have an advantage. An advantage you gained simply because you decided to toss more money at Capcom.

I also really, really hope that this whole thing ends up biting Capcom in the ass. At the very least, I hope SFxT ends up earning Capcom less profit than MvC3 did. If not - if SFxT ends up giving Capcom record profits - then gems really will be the future of fighting games. It’ll become a staple of not just all future Capcom games, but likely most future fighting games from rival developers as well. And if this were to happen - then I’d actually hope that the scene dies again.

Anyone that actually thinks that the ultimate defense gem in that video is in any way beatable is insane…all the person has to do is make you block a special move then hold down back for 98 seconds. Actually scratch that, it has auto block on it, they don’t even need to do that, they can just walk away from the joystick. If your character doesn’t have a command grab you would be completely unable to hurt them while they go to the kitchen and make a ham sandwich. I find it hard to believe that the gem actually does what it says in that description because that is completely retarded.

The auto throw tech gem is pretty busted as is, it completely shuts down half the cast of the game. If you don’t have a good overhead that leads to damage then a person with auto throw tech is invincible as long as they are smart enough to never press buttons ever. If you get a small lead and you have auto throw tech and a bit of meter, you really can’t lose. The overheads in this game are pretty easy to block when you don’t have to worry at all about pressing any buttons ever tbh. Auto block isn’t actually all that bad since it’s a full meter and most of your damage in this game comes off of counterhits, punishes and throws anyway, but the auto throw tech is straight up broken in the hands of a decent defensive player. I know that if gems were tourney legal you’d be an absolute fool not to use auto tech.

Other than that one the gems(that are currently in) seem fine. Make auto tech cost a full meter and it might be okay but as is it’s the only one that I think is a problem. However a couple of the ones on that video, ultimate defense especially, look completely broken. It is possible that some of these are just in the disc data as an artifact and will not ever actually be released, no game designer could possibly actually release something like the ultimate defense gem with a straight face.

…12 jabs will obliterate their super meter, and that’s even assuming it’s full.

EDIT: Oh, whoops, sorry; Cross Gauge.

The gem in the video didn’t cost meter iirc. Maybe i read it wrong. I know I saw an auto tech gem that didn’t cost meter, which would be almost as stupid but at least the person wouldn’t be able to make a sandwich, they would however be able to easily beat you with one hand.
