I agree with you about the comments on the gem system, you should play first before making judgments.
Another point: You can’t generalize all the games from 5 years ago about the locked content on disc, also i’m really sure patches for FG are not that big than FPS/RPG (BFBC2 /BF3 1.7GB/780MB ), also not every company does this for every game , and you should consider if the content is complete or not, AC2/Brotherhood had free content and expansions on every game (not on the disc) and AC: Revelations has incomplete content on the disc, Rockstar had free content and 3 expansions on RDR i would like to know which content was included on the disc because this is not true, a lot of companies prefer good relationships with their customers than seeing drama 24/7.
Another thing is how they lie to the customers when some companies include complete content on the disc and show it as DLC, MS and Sony are not dumb to avoid bussiness with exclusive DLC, Games for their stores, more games for their systems etc. the badwidth/patch excuses doesn’t make any sense if the content is complete, and yeah whining on a forum doesn’t work, vote with your wallets lol.
I gotta love the fact that SFxT has now brought the problems of the Smash community into SRK. The problem isn’t that you guys need to ban gems now, is that the game should’ve been boycotted as soon as pre-order gems were announced. Unfortunately this community has never really boycotted a game or anything and it is definitely not going to do it now that it has some type of actual relationship to Capcom.
I’m not defending or justifying the locked dlc, but you can’t compare tangibles with intangibles. if they locked it for unlocking later with money, it’s not yours.
You and I paid $60 for a disc with whatever they dictated is available for that purchase.
And we’ve beaten that house to death. Whether you have to download or just unlock with a key, if you still need to pay in the end, it is just a slightly more convenient delivery method having it right there and not waiting.
What needs to be done at this point is to petition for early release IMO. But obviously Capcom probably has plans to use the extra dozen characters for an expansion at this point.
I will always maintain that DLC should be there for content they made after release that is meant to add on to the experience in the form of some sort of expansion. DLC shouldn’t be relegated to glorified unlock codes that free to play games use to make the bulk of their money. SFxT has a retail price of 60 dollars as is. When I pay 60 dollars I expect a full game with all the content the developers could jam in there before release. I am increasingly annoyed with the game market and DLC. It seems they can get away with emulating the FTP business plan while maintaining the 60 dollar price tag.
I don’t even understand your point. How is me downloading an update to a game that allows compatibility whether or not I bought characters anything like not having access? I was pretty clear in what I said and how I said it yet what you’re saying isn’t even in the ballpark.
“Baseless assertations”? Are you using words just to use words without knowing how to use them? My response here was also very clear. Few need to save HD space as most of the consoles sold in the last few hours have huge harddrives. And there are ways to expand if you run out of room for both consoles. Also, nobody needs to save on bandwidth from their ISP as the updates wouldn’t even be that large and home ISP’s that do have caps are so astronomically high it’s hard for a lot of people to hit. And if they do I doubt it will be caused by 1 update to a fighting game and has a lot more to do with Netflicks or torrents.
There is nothing baseless about that. I refuted stupid points that makes no sense at all. I’m sorry you didn’t understand but that’s your problem, not mine.
No, no; I’m saying that what you suggested was then same thing as having content on disc. Your way simply had them downloaded on your console at a later date, which makes no difference and in fact adds some hassle. Hope that clears it up, rather have someone disagree with me than misunderstand me. A grave problem with online forums.
No.
The state of people’s drive space and what they’re willing to use or not use is simply not in your know, sorry.
“I don’t like DLC on disc, so you need to get a bigger HDD.”
It’ll bring them closer than they were before. ‘Any savings’ and all that. You’re still just positing what people have and are willing to deal with. I’m not saying people don’t have big drives, or a lot of room to use bandwidth, but I can’t say either way. Neither can you, especially not just to help your argument. For instance; I wouldn’t just up and say, “Well lots of people are running out of space on their drives and reaching their bandwidth caps. We need this DLC on disc.” I have no actual data to say that. All I know is HDD space is finite, and there are bandwidth caps these days, and there can be compatibility issues with purchase disparity that we do not have to deal with traditionally. DLC on disc relieves that.
I can’t speak for every single person because some people are just mad to be mad lol. However its not that we can’t except it, its that most people have been playing games their entire life. A game NEVER cost above 60 bucks. Now all the sudden games cost 5, 10, even 25 dollars over that, because of “DLC.” It’s not right that Capcom knows we will buy the game, because without them there is no game. So instead of charging 60 bucks, (its not a matter of cost, but how much its worth) they now charge extra, just because they know they can. Plus, on top of that its not DLC, its work thats already done. Double plus, games are now coming out at a lower quality, because of “DLC.” Thats messed up…, and no one anytime soon will accept to pay more then what we know its worth.
Dlc gems that are better then ones that can be accessed in game is a bad idea, and I don’t like it.
Check out the Ultimate Defense DLC gem, it has both of them, plus no meter loss for Auto Tech and less of a meter loss for auto block! Plus, its so easy to build meter in this game, especially with meter gems…
Its still really annoying. Plus, how about someone competant with auto block and meter build? You’re having a good match, going toe to toe in footsies and such, except that that sweep or cr.m you woulda connected got auto blocked. Then you get time over’d cuz this game’s timer is BS and the didn’t lose any health (due to auto block)
Yeah, they do it because they can - but the ultimate fact is what we can do is not support that. It’s sad gamers don’t boycott like many say they would because that sort of thing causes changes.
We’ll see if they’re better in time. From what I’ve read I’m honestly fine with using three gems that offer buffs throughout the match.
So, basically, there is nothing anybody can say because since everyone circumstances or somewhat different there is no way to “know”. You are simply trolling now. Also, I like how you attack me for not knowing everyones particular situation yet make up something I did not say. Of course I do not like on-disc DLC that is entirely complete and playable (if you doubt me, go to youtube). It’s a bad way for Capcom to handle things and all of this negative press could have been avoided by them simply choosing to have people download the few updates.
Also, what happens 6 months from now when new DLC content is coming out. It won’t be on the disc. People will be in the same situation you are now placing them in with having to, OMG, use their ISP’s bandwidth and a small amount of hard drive space if they want to play the new content.
You are really reaching in trying to defend their poor decision. I want SFxT to be a success because I like the game. However, I can see why people are mad and the worst part is that most of it could have been easily avoided.
I remember when I got hexen for the n64 and it was 80$. Amazing game that was tons of fun with friends but 80$ yeesh.
I don’t have an issue with the DLC gems that are “better” but take take up 2-3 gem slots. However that isn’t the case here.
There is the “default” auto throw escape and auto block gems. They take up 1/2 bar and 1 bar respectively.
However then there is the DLC version called "auto throw escape lvl 1 and auto block lvl 1. They take up 1/4th bar and 1/2 bar. AND STILL ONLY USE 1 GEM SLOT.
Lvl 2 version is the one that takes up “two slots” and again makes them even better. (1/6th and 1/4th). Gems if balanced could have been awesome. But when some gems are already completely better than others (for example iron wall might be the single worst gems ever, in order for them to be on par with fortitude and block 100 damage you need to take 1000 damage over the course of 20 seconds, its not happening.) they have to be banned from competitive play. There is no way around it and no “tournament” patch will fix the imbalance in gems.
Had it gone default 1/2, “pay for options” 1/4 and 1/6th auto throw escape I would be totally fine.
But with it being Default 1/2, “Pay to win” 1/4, 1/6th 1/8th. I am glad that the tournament norm will be gems banned. Where as before I was looking forward to them.
I dont know, because I dont see their gem layout. Plus I never fuck around with scrubby assist gems so I wouldn’t know if you can equip 2 or none or 1000. And what purpose do I have in lieing?
