DLC Gems are stronger than "Regular" Gems

I’ll likely download a few characters, but there is no ____ing way I’ll spend money on gems or “Quick Combos”. I’m viewing this game as more of an accessible “party game” for my friends, especially with the easy specials gems.

A lot, if not, all of xbox games need to be playable without installation because of the low end models without hard drives. I suppose it is an acceptable solution and it is smart to some extent.

I mean I wish they released this stuff now. It’s no different than sf4 costumes being on disc. People are just crying out harder because they’re characters and not costumes.

I hope Capcom pushes the release of these characters and change their minds for early release.

I understand the logistical reasons for putting the DLC content on disk and making it unlockable later. I was never disputing that from a developer’s standpoint, it makes sense. But I will say this: don’t brush of consumer feelings as being something silly and trivial. If people feel that they’re being cheated, even if in reality they weren’t or there were perfectly logical reasons why things happened the way they did, it can seriously impact their opinion of a company and affect their desire to patronize that company in the future.

Besides, on-disk DLC is but one of many issues that SFxT has. The disparity between pay gems vs standard gems and the pair play mode being locked out on 360 immediately spring to mind.

Aside from the huge setup time, Gems only have a small effect on the game. I don’t even notice when my gems activate half the time I’m playing. Nothing to truly be ban worthy.

Agree,

They should just keep his ass away from the fighting games. Put him on some other Capcom projects.

Firing him would be hilariously fucked up. He’s still a decent producer, all of his games are not 110% ass.

Yeah this is what people are not realizing. This happens in nearly every major game to come out.

I’m really not sure why people have waited till ME3 and SFxT to start making such a big deal out of this. It’s not like the same thing didnt happen with most other games, let alone every past Capcom game for years.

Also there is another issue that I don’t think people realize… do you know PSN and XBL actually have patch size limits? You can’t treat games like PC games, PSN and XBL won’t be having that shit. On top of this, the XBL patch limit is EXTREMELY small.

Combine this with the fact that they have limits on HOW OFTEN they can patch… It’s not corporate BS when they say things like “it’s extremely hard to patch console games with content that is not included on disk”. This is exactly why you have a list of nearly 50 games on the list linked above.

The primary thing they can patch easily is data, because anyone w/ programming experience knows a few MB of data is a HUGE patch, but when it comes to media? That has to be included (at least somewhat, for example the textures/video/audio) or else you won’t be getting any DLC.

Would it really make you any happier if SFxT included the FMV’s and textures, but ONLY held back the meshes themselves, just for this specific reason? And then they would not have been able to patch as much actual data anyway?

I myself,

Not even mad about DLC.

Just mad about what & who (Characters) they decided to make as DLC.

Especially those characters that were all ready in SSFIV. (Dudley, Guy, Cody) F.E.

Shits just seems REALLY shady to me… But whatever…

You know just because ono thinks top players won’t use them. Let’s use a little logic in this situation. If I’m playing a Hugo, king, marduk or whatever. I can get out of throws for free, and keep bring the pain. Why do a proper throw break, while i can just press a button and I’m free. It’s not scrubby, it’s called abusing the system and doing whatever takes to win. Think of it as a cocky heel in pro wrestling that will cheat like no tomorrow to stay champion.

As interesting as this topic is, if it really bothers people that much 1. don’t buy what you don’t want to and 2. you can get rid of your gems (meaning you can play without them like normal). Sure they give you a little advantage but any average player can trump a shitty player with gems. Lets get real here. I’ve been following Capcom for the better part of my life, and I am already aware of their terrible business model of late. First get rid of Ono that Last Boss level Troll, add in R.Mika, Karin (the rights are Capcoms idc what they say), and for that matter add in as many characters that can fit on the screen. At least C.Viper isn’t in here, I’ve had it up to here with SF4 characters.

You disable gems, this shit becomes useless. If I have to play with Sagat and Guile without gems, I play SF IV. If I wanna play with Tekken characters, I play Tekken Tag 2.

This shit doesn’t become useless, just learn to play without them. It’s not that hard to grasp.

Why stop there? Why not SF2 instead?

rofl

i for one, welcome our new speed gem overlords

my characters are fucking slow.

DLC assist gems are completely retarded, expecially the defensive ones.
Boost gems are debatable, but honestly I don’t see any serious tournament allowing the DLC assist gems (hell, I have doubts on the standard throw tech gem already)

OH. So that’s why there’s this gawddamn glitch on Bison’s scissor kick input. Wow…

The quicker we can standardize play the better. Whether it’s banning gems or banning assist gems or whatever. One thing is for sure though–it seems to me like this game didn’t have all its ducks in a row upon release:

1.) Online glitches.
2.) DLC shenanigans.
3.) Gem shenanigans.
4.) USB tournament mode not ready to go out of box.

I mean, to the casual player none of these things really matter but this is a messy launch to anyone who wants to take this game seriously. Kind of a bummer we have to play the waiting game.

You can add almost no character colors to choose from out of the box to that list also. This game is Awesome, but it seems like there are some people at capcom making dumb choices.

I’m more mad about the colors lol. Ono said they would be free DLC, but of course when it comes to money and Capcom, Lolno is never right. The business side always seems to screw him over when the games actually come out. I’m betting its like $2.99 per 4-8 colors. Especially those last few metalic/neon effect ones.

That coupled with them trying hard to hype the game by saying “were supporting this game consistently throughout the year” at every event, but not telling people theres a huge fucking troll face behind it is bullshit. I’m not unaware enough to not know that game companies plan and start AND finish most DLC before or shortly after release… but to say you have dlc plans for a FULL YEAR, then having it exposed as, we have shit on the disc that will be released over the year, now thats some bs and someone over there has to know it too.

First set of costumes: fine, i understand that.
Gems/colors and other frivolous shit: no prob.
2nd Set of costumes for 7 months away to be holloween related: the fuck…
12 characters for 6-7 months away: wow really.

its more the timing structure and reactions/hype by capcom of this shit that baffles my mind.

Lemme know when you guys take out Combofiend 10 straight in a row with DLC gems this month.

After reading what people think of the “DLC” characters and gems thing, I believe some clarifications are needed:
A DLC is an additional content developed after the initial release of the game, meaning developers keeped
working on the IP after the game was finish and released to the public.
Lock Content on disk is content developed during the initial developement of the game but somehow locked away
so company can generate more money for a single IP.
what does it means to you and me?
A real DLC will cost money to create so you know that you are paying for extra work done.
An On Disk Lock Content will NOT cost more money than the original cost of developement, the game ends up costing
$80 or $90 (aproximative guess) instead of the $60 it normally cost.
I usually dont care about on disk lock content unless it affects gameplay (holding back 12 characters and gems that
changes parts of the gameplay mechanics IMO affects gameplay unlike costumes and colors)
In short Capcom want to sell SXT for $90 but knows that they cant do that upfront because people would get upset,
they decide to hold back important contents and make people buy it so they can reach the target price.
