Dive Kick? Yun General Discussion Thread

Yeah, Yun’s not necessarily broken, broken is more for things like ST Akuma or Zero’s old glitch.
Yun simply represent the return of the S-Tier to SFIV, we had Vanilla Sagat before and now we might have Yun, Yang and Fei sharing that spot.

He’s not broken, he’s just BETTER than the rest of the cast. He’s probably S tier if none of the nerfs were applied to the other characters.

When considering a character’s tier placement, you have to consider their tools.

Yun has good ways of getting in. Of course, he has his three dive-kicks. EX Lunge is safe on block (leaves you at advantage, even!), chips, breaks armor, and hit confirms into U1 or LP Lunge. He also has a relatively good dash.

Also, Yun has good hit confirms and BNBs. His cr.mp, cr.mp, s.mp xx special is relatively easy (can’t be any less than 2-frame links; even then, they’re easy 2-frame links) and does good damage. He has target combos which he can special cancel out of (TC5 being the best one to mention, IIRC).

Yun has good anti-airs and pokes. His cl.mk can anti-air and put an opponent in juggle state. Upkicks is a good enough anti-air. Jump back, or neutral jump, roundhouse works well. As far as pokes, his s.mp does well enough. I’m sure he other more noteworthy ones, but I’m not gonna make a list here.

His specials are relatively safe. Yun can whiff HK upkicks on quite a large majority of the cast and remain unpunished.

There’s simply a high reward, low risk element to Yun.

What probably made him, “broken” (which, although bullshit at times, isn’t unbearably broken) is how the rest of the cast changed. Good characters got nerfed; bad characters got buffed (generally). However, Yun and Yang come into this game as good characters that are *new. *Because they’re new, people are gonna bitch about how hard the match-up is when they haven’t even had the chance to learn the match-up. Not only that, but it could be suggested that the twins are relatively easy to use (not braindead, but relatively easy).

Granted, we’ve had AE for 2 days. YMMV.

He’s not broken, the large majority of the cast is just nerfed. Yun vs. the Super Turtles (Balrog, Bison, Honda, Guile) would be 5/5.

Yea I guess great pressure, safe, quick, armor breaking fullscreen special, command throw, dive kicks, good damage, decent FA makes him that good. My question is though, what makes Yun so much better than Yang ? (Well I guess the Lunge punches lol) Yang is almost neverrr mentioned over Yun. In my (Note: Noob) eyes Yang feels like hes better & has more options:

  1. He has an escape special (I read the story about Daigo not being able to do anything in the corner vs another Yun), 2. his DP feels better imo (You can FADC it, Yun’s dp sometimes misses when normal shoryukens wouldn’t), 3. his ultras are better imo, (Ultra 1 can actually be combod into from his normals & specials, Yun has to hit with a uncomboable special / Ultra 2 has more range / more effective against fireball counters) and his normals have more range if I remember correctly. I heard though that he has trouble getting damage in without meter

Yun is (in general) better than Yang because of the damage off of his hit confirms, the damage off of his super, his efficient ways to get in, and his high reward-low risk playstyle. Yang isn’t a bad character, and he certainly has worthwhile tools. But, Yun’s damage can random out even the most solid Yang.

Pretty sure AE has been out for months now, I’ve played several matches against Yun’s (over 100).

Yun is the best character in the game, easy as shit to play, and has an answer for everything.

I should have elaborated and said we’ve had AE for 2 days with training mode. I was referring to characters having the potential to OS some of Yun’s bullshit.

But, you’re right. AE’s been 'round for ages.

If Yun and Yang are so good then someone please explain to me why I still have a 100% win rate against them in ranked with Juri? ( As of 10 / 6 / 11 )

Well, I know the real reason, the ones I’ve played so far in ranked were crap but its kind of frightening me that I haven’t lost to one in ranked yet ( I’ve lost to Evil Ryu and Oni in ranked and I have lost to the twins in endless mode, though. ) Especially after hearing people going on and on about them being so overpowered and broken for so long.

I DO agree they are definitely top tier though, you definitely do not want to be caught in a combo against them. ’ Crap, I made a mistake! Crap, there goes half my health! ’ Happened to me during said ranked matches where I still came back and won.

I’m not trying to blow my trumpet I just wanted to show a point that they might not be all that or they aren’t really that scrub friendly after all.

Because Daigo’s the ultimate grandmaster in Japan and there are the same amount of Yun’s in top 50 as Sagat’s were in top 50 vanilla! /sarcasm

They’re not brain dead easy to use, but I’m willing to bet a lot of people are pushing buttons against everything the twins do up close and get clipped.

Yun is pretty brain dead, as far as this game goes. His only balance is 900 health.

short answer- he isnt broken

And the fact that any offensive character that gets him on knockdown can eat him alive? Non-FADCable DP can only save you for so long.

I remember you. You disconnected right before I beat you and then sent you message saying “lol owned” then you said “not according to my xbox points” and I was like “lol” This was for super, not ae, I just never thought I’d run into you anywhere.

Try Japan XBL / PSN (where I’m playing).

Personally I believe there’s literally no competition in NA / EU ranked matches unless you happen to run into big names.

Thats kind of the issue, i did look and it shows them being at like -9 frames but no matter what i do, if i even to a LP i usually get thrown or reversal out of it. Which leads me to think that maybe the frame data is wrong, either that or every yun i play is in a laggy match.

As for the issue with a DP type move. that comment was mostly out of rage i agree.

The issue with his palm though is it seems uncounterable, yes i know fullscreen fireball spam is bad but i do change my pattern up and the speed of the fireballs but it never works, then iwill try to move close but everything i try to do seems to get hit out of the palm. I try to hit before the palm but i never seem to get close enough in time.

I will try the advice about using an LP to counter his rush punch before he hits me, and i know his EX is +1 frames on block but his other ones just seem so safe.

Broken is waaaay to strong a word. He’s just notably better than quite a bit of the cast a la SF4 Sagat. I think there was a fp post way back when that delineated the difference, suffice to say broken breaks the game and yun in no way does that…unless you play Hakan

hmmm nevermind, I was certain that person was female and it says here that you are male. Nurrmind.

Also, yun is not broken. If anything he’s been severely nerfed. He’s got ways in yes, but one blocked dash punch/shoulder/mistimed dive kick and he’s usually going to eat a 1/3 life combo. His normals don’t reach as far as they appear to and his jab short strong target combo is pretty much useless. But this is all coming from a non sf4 player.

Also, chargers own him.

Well for one…Juri has been out for a year now and the twins only for 2 days lol (Console that is), and two, yea the twins are def. not as easy mode as people thought they would be. (Also just cause a char is good doesn’t mean they are easy to play with) they don’t have the most health, and one or two badly timed and spaced Dive kicks could mean loosing 20-30% Hp cause of a Ex Srk. And is the damage output really what makes Yun better than Yang? I mentioned his DP/Ultra/Normals being better imo, but yea DMG is a huge factor. I’m using the wrong combos with Yun man, I’m barely doing damage at all lol.

But yea Yun is not broken. As mentioned, one blocked shoulder, lunge, badly spaced dive kick and they eat a lot of damage. He also can’t really combo into his ultra as far as I know apart from uncomboable specials, and I feel his normals are lacking a bit but that’s prob. me lol.

mash till something comes out! his lunge non ex has like -7… that’s definitely not safe that or just throw him
