Some things I’ve noticed while watching Yun videos:
Lunges can surprise whiffing/dashing/etc opponents (better players psychic these) and also great for closing distances. Blocked lunges are punished by jab + short on a whim. Definite frame disadvantage after jobbing even an EX one. A well-timed lunge seems to hit after most knockdowns.
Neutral jump hesitation into neutral normals instead of divekicks seems weird to react to. I guess people instictually turtle after being divekick rushed all day.
Palm range is deceptive. Fireballs, normals, untimely anything whiffs get groped.
Very few juggles to ultra or even using ultra. It’s as if he doesn’t need it. Yun players early rejoice.
Ibukis’ still an asshole apparently. Horizontal game really hurts. Watched at least two videos of good Yuns getting bastardized.
Yuns vs shotos or high priority AA and/or space control tended to use more EX specials. I’d play with a little more caution too I guess but I don’t think it’d hinder the fun factor.
Fei Long is the bane of scrubby execution/reaction including Yun. Horizontally, AA, leg grabs all with good damage. Yuns got beasted.
Options are insaaaaaaaaannne. EZ land super (most characters gotta be needled in). Comboes do decent damage. Butterfly kicks to escape corner traps.
Curious if he can still SJ all over like he did in 3S or even if that’s viable anymore.
I was playing Yun yesterday… and I played against a decent Vega… he jumped often so when I anti aired him with ex kicks - lp lunge he just air throw me out of my ex dragon kicks same happend later on with a guile…
i wonder if it´s only the ex move or normal hk kicks anti air too^^
ah sry thats not what I meant…, just the fact that I got air thrown out of my kicks issss kindaaa… shitty
And today at a-chos was a Yun his name was"MDR"… he had about 30.000 Battlepoints… he was constantly linking the ultra 1 from midscreen ex lunge punch or lp lunge punch after ex lunge… !!! And after the command grab against Balrog he linked not only
cr. mp - st.mp xx kicks
he could do: cr. mp - cr. mp xx kicks
but sometimes the kicks whiffed … for no reason !!!
If they do the air throw thing, then try doing a normal AA, not dragonkicks. Idk what normals are good for AA though, maybe HP or f. HP? far MK? I barely played Yun.
That’s new and interesting about the ultra, but if you try to do kicks from cr.mp it tends to whiff since st.mp moves yun forward a bit and that helps a lot since it cancels closer to opponent into kicks. So never think of cancelling kicks from cr.mp.
Since there’s no AE where I live was thinkign about playing 3s to practice my yun, but SSF4 Yun looks a lot easier than and different than 3s Yun. Am I wrong?
What should a future yun main do? Play rufus or yun in 3s?
^ Play Yun in 3s AND rufus in SSF4 I guess. However I don’t believe Yun and Rufus have much in common except Dive kick and overhead. I myself still play 3s Yun and will be for a long time now even after AE drops on consoles. Couldn’t hurt to do both I guess.
replying to some of the things I read in the thread:
Lung punch is very unsafe unless its lp/mp lung and spaced properly
c.mp c.mp xx Kicks is character specific, will whiff on some. EX kicks hits on everyone though.
3s Yun doesnt play anything like ssf4 yun, aside from his normals and specials looking the same >_> in ssf4 he’s sooo much slower and alot more sluggish (obviously, its ssf4 after all).
I’d done a write-up with my Impressions of SSF4 AE after playing it around 2 weeks ago. Check the link if you’re interested.
I know this is just nit-picking and does nothing to affect gameplay, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed that the skateboard patch on Yun’s hat in his character art and the art in the character select screen is on the left side of his hat. However, the patch switches sides when Yun is in-game, i.e., the patch is on the right side of the hat when he is facing right, and presumably it stays on the right because when Yun is facing left, it does not appear. This is judging from videos online, so maybe it’s just the video quality messing with my eyes.
easier said than done. when u pay a buck per game you wont get the chance to practice. whenever i play yang i get bodied. i try yun once and i get a win streak. yun seems like the better character yet again. i play competitively so i think yun can get me further in brackets than yang can.
i’ve played 3s yang a little and i sometimes play fei. i think i know where your getting at. i guess i play yang the way yun is played and that obviously doesn’t work. it’s hard to get used to a character without a training mode and people want to just take advantage of that and get that easy win. Yun just might fit my style better than yang can.
SSF4 Yang plays nothing like 3S Yang… not at all. Yang seems really solid in this game, but I’m enjoying Yun much more. I think they’re both good fits for the SF4 engine.
It at least will give him an edge on what to do with Yang and how to space his normals and what not. Have to be touch-based on your character somehow. But obviously with SSFIV Engine he won’t be completely like his 3s iteration, but there is still some part of his game there.
