Played Yun today at chinatown. I can confirm a few things.
Yun builds meter so quick that its worth saving for GJ.
U1 comes out fast.
You need to low divekick to start combos. Not free like rufus.
It seems the second/third cr.strong need to be plinked in combo. Second one may be 2f but third feels like 1f.
heres everything i’ve learned about yun while playing ae. all lunge punches are punishable (i havent been punished when i’ve used ex though, not sure if thats punishable). not sure if shoulders are punishable since it sometimes pushes the oppenent back a bit on block. onlinetony reversal super’d my ex shoulder though so be careful. palm feint is a SICK setup for a throw/divekick/dp/etc. his hit confirm has real simple timing. his far st.mp is extremely useful. whether its for the mp hp hp target combo or just cancelling into specials. his dp is great. after ex dp you can lunge punch. his command throw into launcher has simple timing too. not sure if he can cr.mk after command throw, if anyone can shed some light on this… ginei jin combos are simple. not sure how many shoulders you can juggle with but i’m pretty sure i’ve done four in a row to drive someone into the corner. you can juggle someone for the full super duration using only shoulders lunges and overheads. so far i’ve only been using u1. yuns u1 is an obscene aa. i took a look at eventhubs page on yun and they dont really have any bnbs or simple hit confirms listed. yun has a simple hit confirm. cr.lk cr/st.lp st.mp >special. gonna try to get some vids and pics when i go play tomorrow. sorry if this is all old news
You have to hit them around their waist or lower to have enough hitstun/blockstun to combo. It was like this in 3s, but idk cuz I haven’t played this game yet. If their crouching I’m guessing it will be a lot easier to combo off them.
I tried to punish ex dash punch with 4frame ex spd, but he jumped out fine.
Also, is palm a projectile? I think it might be. Seems to stay out after he’s recovered, hits with a projectile-y splash, etc. Has anyone seen if ex psycho crusher, ex spire, ex blanka ball or other projectile invincible moves can go through it?
you have to do it pretty low. i’ve been getting thrown by people who mash techs standing because i wasnt doing dive kicks low enough. or maybe i’m just horrible at following up with dive kicks
ah ya the ex lunge looks fairly safe but the normal lunges can definitely get reversal spd right?
shoulder isnt safe and as far as i know only hp and ex version of lunge punch are safe, lp and mp only safe if spaced properly. and palm got a lot of pushback, dont know if its safe, hondas hp headbutt looks safe to but some characters can punish it.
Had a really good mess around with Yun today down at Box Hill Time Out, it’s weird when you don’t have some sort of training mode to experiment with. Hopefully I can get back there soon, some of the other guys playing looked like they had been using him for years…
Anyone think practicing with 3s Yun would be beneficial in any way?
You will at least learn his basic links and stuff like target combo into lunge and other stuff and it will also help you figure out what to do with genei jin alot better
Got to mess around with Yun and Yang last night. I’m definitely maining Yun and then subbing Yang.
I’m not that great at SF4 (especially since I stopped playing for a long while), and most everything has been discussed. So I’m not sure if anything I say will be worthwhile. I played a lot of 3s and can say he feels very close to his 3s counterpart. His footsies isn’t the greatest. Getting in and staying in is the key. Rush potential is great, but it feels risky. SRK kicks with Yun is a great finisher to his bnbs and target chains. Sets you up next to them after knockdown allowing for divekick mixups. Haven’t messed with Genei Jin yet, but I hope to so.
