Discrimination Against Anime Fighting Games

Crying: Gears of War
Questionable relations with half-human freaks: Mass Effect
More movie than game: Uncharted, God of War. Heck, the Japanese games that aremost guilty of this (MGS,FF) are the ones trying as hard as they can to appeal to the west.

Everyone knows black people are the majority of the American Melty scene. It’s like the Marvel 2 scene…but without the shooting and MMs for more than $100.

Blue: The Sky
Green:Grass
More misdirection: Your reply.

I made this exactly thread some weeks ago and it was closed… oh well.

I know I’m shooting myself in the foot by actually posting in a thread this good, but since I play animu fighters I’d like to give my two or three cents. I will say I don’t speak on behalf of the entire community and these are my own opinions separately.

A brief introduction I’d include on my fighting game resume would be that I started playing fighting games on a more competitive level with the old Melty Blood and 3rd Strike, which I suppose makes me a gangster pedophile at heart. Since then I’ve started playing at a scene and have been to a few tourneys and have played just about every fighting game that’s been released since no matter how doujin (Vanguard Princess), poverty (Twinkle Queen), or terrible (MvC3), and usually found that most games have at least something to them that’s valuable and the game is never really just utter shit (well maybe not that last one).

But I understand that not everybody can condone the various moe moe~ art styles used in several fighting games. You may find this hard to believe but I’m quite well-versed in anime and Japanese culture (aka weeaboo), so to me the art style comes off pretty naturally and I don’t see anything particularly wrong with it because I’m used to it and I’m a part of the culture that it targets. But not everyone is, and failure to understand that and actually put yourself in other people’s shoes is where the problem lies. The problem isn’t just that those nasty old SF players can’t accept anime style art and games, it’s that a lot people who play anime fighters don’t realize that some people can’t just dig their game for aesthetics alone based upon their beliefs and biases. Can it change? Yes, but life long biases take more time to overcome and even then they may never.

I’m saying that those people who do play anime fighters need to quit complaining over every little thing if they want to get the respect from other players that they seem to want so bad. And as an example of that it even comes to the name “anime fighter”. For the love of God why this is even a problem makes me terribly depressed at night. For some reason people hate labeling it “anime fighter” because that somehow makes their game less masculine or something. Well I hope this doesn’t come as a shock to you my fellow brethren, but A) your game wasn’t that manly to begin, unless it’s HnK or Jojo, and B) your game is probably really, fucking, anime, it’s not that hard to realize this. Yes Street Fighter has anime elements (Sakura’s existence and the schoolgirl archetype can’t escape from Capcom!). Yes Street Fighter had many animes, but no SFIV is not an anime game. Yes I also know it’s a derogatory term that isn’t 100% accurate to label every game from Japan out there with but, learn to deal with this already. A rose by any other name smells just as sweet. Or Japanese. You can call it airdash fighter, chain fighter, schoolgirls fighter, skullgirls fighter, that fighter with the guy who says OMAE WA MOU SHINDERU, whatever-the-fuck-you-want-fighter but the point is the name is the least of your worries and if you bring up that “oh my god real anime fighters are like those naruto and bleach fighters cuz they suck and are really based off anime!!” then you’ve completely missed the point of the entire issue and really need reconsider your priorities.

And perhaps a big reason for why this is even an issue is similar to the whole, Blazblue not showing up at EVO 2012 deal, in which it was probably for the first time publicly revealed on Dustloop forums that most Blazblue players are actually, really young (!?). Well here’s a mysterious equation I’ve concocted that relates to it. Anime often targets a young and horny audience usually by including awesome fighting maids and robots in the show that beat the crap out of each other, therefore anime fighters often include playable awesome fighting maids and robots that beat the crap out of each other. And I hope I didn’t just label the entire anime fighter community as a bunch of pillow hugging highschoolers, because for one they probably can’t afford that since hugging pillows are expensive as hell, and two of course with every stereotype exceptions exist and truth is most of the people in the anime FGC who are serious about fighters are adults that aren’t really child molesters and are in fact, normal people. Surprise surprise!

Anime fighter players need to ignore the hate and trolling and keep pushing their scene so it’ll pop up at majors. Which I mean, I know that’s what stream monster #88903 wants to see the least but fuck him, he’s already getting 2 games he pretends to play and 4 games he won’t ever touch to appear at EVO 2012 which he isn’t even going to. What a dick! I play anime fighters, I know it sucks ass to be labeled a pedophile for playing the games you enjoy to play, but you just have to learn to deal with it especially if you want to contribute to your scene growing which is what’s at the heart of what’s important. If you can’t cope with being name called then maybe you shouldn’t be playing these kind of fighting games.

Of Schoolgirls and Jailbait, pomf=3

But the big issue a lot of people have with anime fighters is the pedo and loli content that likes to show up. 。◕ ‿ ◕。 And this is something I have to address separately because, well, you could probably go to prison in certain countries for it. There’s no real better way to explain and justify the delicious lolis that show up in several anime fighters other than with “it’s Japan”. If you don’t already accept it then you won’t ever and there’s no point in explaining further. In the book of anime rules you’d have to spend a weekend marathoning Lucky Star 3 or 4 times in a row before you start understand “moe culture” and why those girls are there to begin with. It isn’t a pedophilic thing though (hopefully), and although the games do sometimes portray them in sexualized manners it’s more of a cute thing than a MMMM GIMME DAT DELICIOUS FLAT CHEST thing (hopefully). A lot of people just can’t accept their presence and that’s cool but it shouldn’t discourage you from at least trying a game if you think the game has potential. I’d think it’s pretty creepy myself if I wasn’t already creepier.

In summary, schoolgirls fighter players need to quit whining about things that aren’t important because people are always going to hate, even on games they like. However dumbasses also need to quit being stupid and labeling everyone who plays a game with a maid in it as a pedo because it discourages new players from entering those scenes and prevents them from growing. I bolded that because this is really the only problem that actually matters. And I mean I know that is what those assholes are try to do in the first place because they’re, well, assholes, but this is a stigma that the anime fighting game community will have to figure out some way to overcome otherwise our games will always stay in the shadows. And if it hasn’t worked the past 47 times, I don’t think bitching about how SF is also anime is going to do it.

Don’t worry this one will be closed soon too.

i am amazed that this thread is still open

i dont give a shit about your obsession with common tropes and i dont give a shit if two characters are “connected” by such

see, this is remotely decent, although too general. the fact that the two resemble some sort of archetype which you have characterized doesn’t mean that rachel’s moveset is merely an unoriginal variation, especially since their tools are ultimately different.(moreso imo than how most grapplers vary from each other) you still have the vast majority of the cast to go if you want to actually support your moveset claim.

Sf4 is a game for jocks with no taste??

Go f yourself.

What I like I don’t make signatures, avatars, play games of, make fanart of and just generally making it plainly clear how fanatic I am about stuff. If someone knocks what I like, I don’t care. I also have zero to prove.

So why do anime fans get defensive while they seek validation? Why can’t they be discreet if they are soft skinned to criticism?

Super Muscle Bomber/Ring of Destruction:Slam Masters 2 is more anime then any game on mentioned on here. It had motherfucking Tetsuo Hara design the characters for that game. How many anime games can say that?

there are two veins of fitan games.

  1. Games that are derived from SF Alpha 2.
  2. Games that are derived from SF Alpha 3.

I like both.

:coffee:

You know what? With the exception of the first page, this thread turned out to be alright. I’m proud of you SRK.

I agree but…,** **its the vast majority that discourages the scene. And the difference between about 43 times is its the true age of information highway now.
People can promote a game, even if its negative like this thread.
Also schoolgirl fighters aren’t the only fighters with this reputation as said many many many MANY times.
Its just kinda ironic and sad that the potential mold breaker, is American, (almost) all girls, has a load of panty shots, concept by a Deviantart artist, and superdeformed. All that would normally DOOM it. ****

I just like the people who are like “Anime fighters suck” and their favorite fighting game is/was Alpha 3.

Bitch, just say it then. Don’t try to squirt your superiority complex all over my face.

What did I just say? Also you do care since you’re just blatantly ignoring it and want a page-long analysis in comparison to "NO THEY AREN’T, SHUT UP"
Besides, if we’re going to move by move, you might as well say Roy is original because he doesn’t completely take from Terry Bogard.

People try to make fun of Anime games without playing them, The see characters like Platinum and just assume “Pedobait”

Most fighting games have Anime adaptations. Street Fighter has Schoolgirls with panty shots galore, Huge Boobs on show (viper) and Thighs for thigh lovers, Girls in leotards and catgirl outfits and men covered in oil. Marvel has catgirls and godknows what else. It’s just something you have to deal with.

A FG is a FG. Support them all.

While there are plenty of animu games I really enjoy (IAMP, Ougon, Melty, the occasional Soku etc.),
there are cases where the asthetics are too much for me to overlook, like with Vanguard Princess.

What I can’t take about all of the ‘animu’ stigma is people writing off games as crap solely for the art-direction they couldn’t overlook, having little to no experience with the actual game behind it.

And I personally think SC, one of my favorite 3D franchises,
was always a far worse offender as far as blatant fanservice go than any animu fighter out there.

This entire thread is 50% trolls trolling trolls and 50% some guy refusing to let go of an argument (which you really have to do eventually on SRK, otherwise the argument won’t ever end, ever), I wouldn’t say that’s alright.

Sir, there were like seven arguments. But I’m stopping myself.
