I remeber reading a post by DS and he said ex dash upper you can cr & it will whiff throw/bnb punish.
cr. short x 3 to SK
is worth learning because most of ur opponents tick throws will be beat out by ur option select tech
its a great way to deal with corner pressures, and the scissor kick pushes ur opponent back a great distance
Alot of good players will rarely ever make mistakes big enough for u to punish with BnB combos
later on ull find urself playing mostly footsies and occassionally landed ur cr.short x 3 combo
Cr.short x 3 is like the foundation of every bison’s game, so i would say its a Must Know fundamental
cause honestly if u cant link that combo consistently by now, Bison isnt the character for u
oh yea what valle meant about cr. short x 3 is that it is not a real block string
this means that there are frame gaps in between em if ur opponent blocks, so it can be very unsafe to do it to DP based characters
It was one of the reasons why Andre lost to daigo during SB4
There are alot of combos that are not real block strings in this game >_<
against characters with DP or grapple reversals, short short short scissors sucks. If you gave it just plus 1 on block you’d have a real blockstring there. dunno wtf is up with that, its a great pressure string. fingers crossed for SSF4.
here’s the deal with shorts though:
crouching short short short short xx EX scissors: 154 dmg (really worth the meter?)
crouching short short short short xx lk scissors: 130 dmg
crouching short short short short xx mk scissors: 136 dmg
crouching short short, st.short, standing roundhouse: 148 dmg
crouching short short, st.short, cr.mk xx roundhouse scissors: 191 dmg
so those are all the ways you can do damage off of cr.short, i dont know if they’re worth it but i definitely think getting down as many combos as possible is best so you can use the best combo in whatever situation arises.
on a slightly different topic, off hit jump in fierce we all need to change up our mentality about bnbs. . cr.lp, s.lp (s.lk), cr.mk xx roundhouse scissors is old hat and deals miniscule damage when Bison is capable of doling out far more off of a jump in. as a blockstring, the only safe one Bison has is cr.lp, s.lp, cr.lk xx lk scissors, it is AIRTIGHT. so other than as a blockstring and as a wakeup throw feint into a BNB to build the charge for the scissors, I think the old bnb is kind of moot now.
-jump in fierce, cr.mp, cr.mk xx roundhouse scissors : 337 dmg, 485 stun
-jump in fierce, s.close mk, cr.mk xx roundhouse scissors: whopping 347 dmg, 485 stun
-LVL3 FA, st.close mk, cr.mk xx roundhouse scissors: 349 dmg, 440 stun (lvl2 FA crumple 281 damage)
-LVL3 FA, cr.mp, cr.mk xx roundhouse scissors: 341 dmg, 440 stun (lvl2 FA crumple 289 dmg)
jump in fierce, st.close fierce xx roundhouse scissors is 334 dmg but is still the best punisher after an FA level three, but not for level 2 for some reason.
That’s some Akuma damage there. the latter combo and toss in a roundhouse and a s.mk poke at some point in the match and you’ve got 500 damage right there.
I suggest everyone use this one! It’s one of the easiest bnbs he has, and it leaves you with great positioning. I’m sure if the character is larger you can even add a short or two in there (Sagat for instance).
its his biggest damage combo, dont know why people don’t use it more often.
…isnt S. MK to Cr. Mk a 1 frame link? Or am I mistaken?
Doesn’t look like the easiest link IMO.
^ That plus its only good as a deep jump in combo which means bison can still get AA. Its not reliable to do on cross up either, too many factors come into play like spacing, timing, hit box, etc. It dont even work on boxer :xeye: (Cr:mp to Cr:mk does tho)
A Counter hit combo im trying to perfect is his close st:fp to st:rh (270 damage and 450 stun) plus i throw out another st:rh afterward to catch ppl trying to jump.
Ill do something like dash in cr:lk to St:fp and hopefully they trying to mash stuff (not srk tho) which nets a CH then tag em with st:rh.
If we turn our noses up at a one frame link max damage combo the abel and rufus boards will corner us before school and steal our lunch money.
One frame links are not that bad and alot of characters have one frame links and there not rcomplaining about them. Just practice the combo until its in your muscle memory.
Probably because j.HP, cs.HP xx HP PC does 334/560 and is braindead easy.
Is it? It seems pretty lenient. Any time I’ve landed this combo, the cr. mk was practically begging to link.
dont most of Bisons combos feature 1 frame links?
‘cMP, cMK’ and ‘cLK x 3’ both need to be a lot easier to land. Bison lives off 3 and 4 hit combos, why the hell are his harder to land than Zangief’s???
They fear Bison, that or they wanted him to have a steep learning curve.
imo, they did that so more players would go for the new cast members instead of sticking with the originals.
Say I walk up to a dude and do ‘c.jab, close s.jab’ in order to start a combo, but that shit gets blocked. Assuming I’m not willing to risk going through with a bnb on block, what are some of my go to options?
Go for the throw or c.lp - s.lp - c.lk - sk.
Oh and j.hp - cl.hp -PC is pretty nice.
The reason the frame are hard is because the were hard in st.Unfortunately they thought dr/hs sheniagans wouldn’t be neutralized as much as it has. Otherwise we would have the touch of death like in st. j.rh st.lk cr.mk pc = you let get in once I screwed your mother looks like your dizzy got you again. Crap defense/amazing offense. Alas he is not that way anymore so here are some CH combos.
cr.mp ch cr.mp sk 268 dmg
lk sk ch fadc st lk st lk st.rh 213 dmg
lk sk ch fadc st.rh 195 dmg
lk sk ch fadc st.lk st.rh 201 dmg
st hp ch st.rh 270 dmg
st.hp ch cr.mp sk 334 dmg
While not game breaking hopefully this helps you guys maximize counter hit attempts. If this has been posted my mistake.
yup highly agreed. good answer, all im saying is that i wonder why bisons (including myself) don’t use this when we could. like I’ve never seen it in a match once, even when you get the spacing. lately i’m just trying to use these in matches even if i dont land them or screw up the link. i’m just trying to use it more often and just suggesting more folks do the same. bison doesn’t need these to win by any means, but man damage landing one big damage combo early on will really put the rest of the match in your favor. and st.fp to st.rh is a great counter hit combo. lots of setups like we discussed on xbl, dash cr.lk, s.fierce, s. roundhouse. boy that hurts. what is better however is meaty jab because of the frame advantage. very helpful when going for the molasses standing fierce afterwards. another single counter hit bait is three blocked shorts and standing far fierce. hits often. you can mix it up with roundhouse since it comes out a bit faster too but hitbox might make it whiff. you can replace shorts with three jabs, a cr. mp and a s.rh or s.far fierce too.
and glasgowkiss, highly agreed, plus all of bison’s combos have one-two frame links. stuff like fierce, fierce PC is good and easy but that doesn’t matter imo. crumple FA punishes must be replaced with something more damaging than st.close fierce xx roundhouse scissors.
using PC in combos is nice but the positioning afterwards kind of sucks and i dunno about you guys but going for stun is never a part of my gameplan.
bison’s combos should be tough, that’s fine, but all of the rest…ugh
Even though we’re still waiting to see how FA’s have been changed in SSFIV (just speed from what I read), I HATE bisons few options after a FA.

I NEVER use PC in combos unless I’m screwing around or i am drunk and hit the wrong button. Sometimes I use it when I jMP Ex PC, but that’s just for the hell of it. The extra stun is NOT worth it, regardless of how you wanna argue it (for fucks sakes, most matches I get dizzy, I kill them next hit anyways, and PC would NOT have helped). SK should be speedy, recover well, PC should travel far, hit hard, and go THROUGH opponents. Simple as that.
I find bison boring lately BECAUSE his combos are just too tough to pull of consistently, and not rewarding enough. Too afraid to take chances that will end with you getting reversaled, so you stick to weak ass combos. It reminds me of playing like a scrub, just jump kicking and following up by tripping somebody. I ain’t asking for Ryu or Rufus or Chun Li style combos, but man, when his biggesting hitting combo without FADCing is 7 hits, and doesn’t hit 100% of the time, it’s time to overhaul the fuck out of my dic
Is Cr.lk x 3 a 1 frame link?? No way…because I can get that consistently and if it was 1 frame, id have a lot more trouble with it.
