No, you’re wrong j.HP c.MP c.MK xx SK works on everyone regardless of size. It’s a spacing issue.
I actually only practice my combos on tall (Sagat, Zangief) and small characters (Sakura, Elf), there’s no difference. THe j.HP has to hit and land you toe-to-toe with them, you will not connect c.MP, c.MK if you’re further. You may connect c.MP at some points but the c.MK will not reach.
Haha I’m wrong? It was said several times during the NEC stream. Yes, the spacing is different depending on the character, obviously Sagat doesn’t literally recover quicker. But because he is taller, a jump in that hits him in the head, will not have the same affect that hits sakura in the head. Because you take the same amount of time to land and begin comboing in both cases, yet because you have slightly longer to land in sagat’s case, there is a stricter timing for the combo. Sorry for the confusion.
There’s no more or less hit stun frames whether you’re doing it on El Fuerte or Sagat. That combo lands if you land right next to them from the j.HP to get the perfect distance for c.MP, c.MK to hit correctly.
And if you were on NEC saying this on the stream, it don’t make it true. The game’s data doesn’t lie.
You guys are focusing on different points of the combo. bha-ja’s talking about the link from j.hp to c.mp, while tonylew’s talking about c.mp to c.mk link. You’re both right, but laudanum’s issue is the c.mp -> c.mk link which is solely based on his jump-in not being deep enough.
Sorry tony, but I tried EVERYTHING. i really think it simply doesnt work on Sagat. I hit my jump ins at the LATEST possible, literally hitting his ankles but it just doesn’t work. My timing is near perfect on this. I even tried many many times just connecting cr.mp to cr.mk off of FAs, off of just standing there with him in the corner. It just doesnt seem to work for me and it’s pissing me off.
Please, will someone go TRY this in training mode? I’d be utterly relieved if its just my execution but I really don’t think that’s what it is. I implore anyone to go try this in training mode and prove me wrong (obviously make sure you’ve got autoblock on) and try it off of jump ins, FA’s, deep jump ins, run the whole gamut and if you can do it I’ll applaud you and work on my jump in timing but seriously I think its a hitbox/stun issue or something.
Sorry to sound pissy but this is utterly frustrating. I can live with no Cl fierce xx scissors on Chun and Sim (hard to pull off but possible) but this is utter BS.
I just dropped j.hp c.mp c.mk on gief and seth. i guess sagat’s issue is a hitbox. it’s not that he recover fast which was what I was arguing about earlier, that they don’t have special treatment of recovering faster because they’re big.
I’m having stupid problems with the S.HP, C.LK, Scissor Kick combo. The link from the S.HP into C.LK is pretty simple, but somehow I keep losing charge (or something else) even though I hold back while doing S.HP and transition into the down/back C.LK for the Scissor Kick.
I’ll try and walk you through how I pull this off:
off of an FA crumple, insert the dash input as early as possible and charge back. You should be already charging back by the time your dash animation begins and ends. I even wait a slight bit before hitting with cl. fierce for that split second of extra charge time.
Cl fierce xx roundhouse scissors does more damage/stun and doesn’t require a 1 frame link.
if you’re talking about dashing up and doing this I don’t think it’s possible.
s.lk to s.rh is fantastic. s.lk has deceptive reach and while s.rh doesn’t do more damage in combos than scissors, it doesn’t knock down and does more stun. you can use this instead of scissors in combos against guys like Gief/Sagat where all the damage/stun you can get will count. Also can replace scissors in block strings but i think you’re at - frames on block. You can also bulldog certain characters into eating your roundhouse with st.lk (around 2:30 when STD gets sim in the corner ) and its good for when you don’t have charge.
dash up cr.mp linked to roundhouse is a great pressure poke combo. big damage if you land. a lot of people twitch after dash up cr.mp because they know you dont have charge and you can nail them with roundhouse.
To do a cs.fierce -> RH Scissors after a FA crumple, I dash forward as soon as possible, and then hold down back for a bit. This way, I’m not walking out of close distance and fuck up the combo. Then you just hold back and press fierce and go from there.
So basically: :mp:+:mk:, :r:,:r:, :db:, :l:, :hp:, :r: + :hk:
Pardon my ignorance, but are there ANY blockstrings I can use safely on characters with solid/scary reversals? I know, I know, it’s SF4, but still is there anything I can do to safely pressure an opponent and maybe even do some chip? I’m sick of shit happening like getting DP’d immediately after a jump in or through a BNB. I never do cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.lk xx scissors, but is that shit safe? what strings or tactics do you use on block?
It used to be the same for me. Oddly enough I used to do it perfectly, then one day I completely lost the ability to do it. Then a week or so later after I started to use the cr.lk I once again magically regained my abilities to do cl. fierce xx roundhouse scissors. Of course only do it if you’re going to push them further into the corner. If you’ve got less space behind you than in front of you, use PC for the extra damage/stun.
Ryu can srk ALL of bison’s links on block (kid tested and mother approved)…also bison’s cross up j:mk isnt a true combo unless its really deep that can be srk’ed on block too. I dont really go for many block strings on char’s with good reversals, I just do 1 hitta quitters…give em something to think about. lol
is a deep jump in fierce safe? as in do I have time to land and block in case they try and reversal? I’m wondering if this is the relevance of the training trial when you can cancel fierce into teleport. I’ve gotten creamed with a SRK after j mks so many times its not even funny.
bison is a ‘rush character’ but yet this game’s mechanics in no way promote that style of play unless you’re going toe to toe with another in-your-face character. Abel can be a really fun fight for me in this sense but I’m SICK to fuck about having no offense when he has meter. He just EX command throws me out of any pressure I try and apply and then it becomes a boring poke fest.
