short and forward are also known as weak and medium. People say short and forward because it lets others know they are referring to the kick buttons instead of the punch buttons.
Ok thanks guys. Appreciate the help.
someone said something about getting a kara from a teleport or something. Posting to know if its true.
Crossing up, standing vs crouching
for some reason I have a hard time doing this bnb as a cross up vs a standing opponent, but it seems to work fine vs a crouching one:
the combo is j.mk, c.lp,s.lp,c.mk**scissors
when I try to do this as a cross up versus a standing opponent I always seem to be too far away to link into c.mk. I’m sure this is just a problem with my distancing but has anyone else encountered this issue? it works fine vs crouching opponents though.
use j.mk, c.lp, s.lk, c.mk xx scissors instead… also ya watch the jump range… do it so u r borderline on crossing over… that way u can mix it up…
does c.lp, s.lk/s.lp, c.mk give you enough time for a charge when you do ambiguous crossups?
Sometimes I can’t even tell which side I’m going to end up on, and I have to do c.lp, s.lp, c.lp, c.mk to get a full charge on reaction.
No, it doesn’t give you time after seeing which side you land on to start charging the right way.
But you not knowing which side you will land on is a VERY bad habit that you should work on, as the jumper you need to learn your range of your crossup so that you ALWAYS get the combo out after the jump in, whether you crossup or not.
Go into training mode and practice jumping mk from your max range, and then take babysteps forward until you land on the other side, and that’s the max range for your crossup (you can count the tiles on the ground to help you). then keep taking more babysteps until you no longer hit him, but sail over him. That’s when it’s too far.
I admit that I’m not as crystal clear on the max-range as I’d like to be, but that’s usually not what causes the problem. I only try to jump from a distance that I know and am familiar with, but opponents don’t stand still all the time.
The cases where I’m unclear on the crossup is when an opponent walks forward/backwards at the last second, forcing me to react after the fact =/
Bison doesn’t have a lot of non-charge combos that are useable, so you should probably be looking for a throw string after that, unless someone else can suggest something better.
But I don’t usually run into that problem, ideally you should be trying to jump at awkward times for the opponent and making them guess which way to block at the last second, not giving them time to walk forward or backwards to interrupt your setup. If this is a big problem with you, try re-thinking when you jump.
BTW Ono-Sendai, you like William Gibson, you have good taste and win this thread by default. Took me a few times reading this page to realize what your username meant.
De-fault: the two sweetest words in the english language!
Honestly, I wish I could contribute more than just that stuff about why ch s.hkx2 actually works against Ken. I’ve learned quite a bit off you SRK people.
And yes, Gibson is a pretty damn good writer.
Hi all ! Nice discussion here …Lots of good stuff.
I started playing Dictator seriously and I have a problem putting consistently his BnB combo jMk ( cross ) ,cLP,cLP,cMK cancel into HKscissors. The cMK simply doesn’t connect ! I dont have problem with Balrog’s combo cLP,cLP,cLK cancel into Headbutt but this combo is very important because I can hit confirm that the combo does or doesn’t connect or stop the combo and throw …etc.
Do you know any other good combo which can be useful or a tip how to link this combo ? I’ll be glad for any tips.
do cr.lp, s.lk, cr.mk xx scissors… change the scissors from low to high if ur combo isn’t blocked… if that’s still hard do cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.lk xx lk scissors…
Thank you pal I’ll try it.
trouble doin bnb
i had the same problem too of doing the bnb combo, but to pull it off, you have to input the lk.sc right after the last lk. so i just do this one, c.lp, c.lp, s.lk, s.lk, xx lk.sciccors. i think its an easier combo to pull off, gives enuff time to charge the SK and nice damage about 158ish… i believe.
as for the c.mk link, i have trouble with that too. i can never get the time right consistently and its even worse during gameplay. but i guess practice shall make perfect cause i think thats the ideal bnb due to the damage, its like 180ish. are there any hints on hitting that link, i’ve tried “double tapping” but that doesnt help me.
and speaking of practice, after doin my ‘special’ combo, i can now do the c.lp,s.lk,c.lkxx lk SC pretty easily now. so keep on practicing.
anybody able to c.lk, s.lk, c.mk, sk consistently?
I want to make it my BnB of choice but the link from c.lk>s.lk is tough. not impossible, but tough
since it’s a 1-frame link, I suggest you plink it for an easier time.
also, keep in mind that this string is not linkable on block. Shotos can srk reverse the s.lk if the c.lk is blocked. If only c.lk gives +2 on block…sigh we can always dream.
If you’re going for more damage, you’re better off doing c.short into c.jab at some point. Bread and butter is dumb in this game, you have to maximize your damage with each available opportunity. Get caught doing c.lkx2, c.mk, scissors and you’re gonna end up missing out on critical openings in lieu of a one dimensional offense.
does Bison have a solid combo that can be used on any character blocked,non-blocked, wake-up,cross-up?? It really seems like every combo is specific to the situation.
lol, I can’t even pull off bison’s basic crouching low kick x2 into small scissor kick.
I really don’t get the timing for this. Do you people use negative edge? how does that help?
Also, how can you react fast enough so that ever time you catch you opponent with the lk that you can combo it into scissor kick 100%?
