I’ve been with the Diablo series since its inception. The art direction definately doesn’t live up to my expectations. When I look at the videos and screen-shots, it screams ‘Diablocraft’. Blizzard, you fucked up. The Blizzard magic has been missing since Warcraft 3, and it’s probably not going to get better. StarCraft2 on the otherhand is looking promising, but I’m not going to get into that.
I hope this is a sick joke, and they’ll release some ‘real’ Diablo 3 impressions. Hell, they might as well start from scratch because I can wait.
Quite honestly, I feel like D3 has the best 3D engine of all of Blizzard’s games. SC2 is downed by the fact that a lot of the new unit models aren’t really that good and the Warcraft universe never looked good in 3D. I’ve played both WC3 and WoW (extensively unfortunately) and I feel like Diablo 3 looks the best out of all of them. I was in the group of firsts to say the game will look shit in 3D, but I do feel like I was wrong now and I can’t wait to be honest.
True. As of last Saturday, i’m looking more forward to D3 than SC2. Maybe it’s the hype, but D3 looks really fucking good! The graphics will probably get modifed a bit, so no worries people…
^^ Most definitely. I saw D3, and I don’t even care about sC2 anymore.
Ofcourse i’m still getting both
Blizzard told petitioners that color is your friend
Okay, I just did that and… waiting for my keys. cues jeopardy music
Well I abandoned this thread after it’s announcement because in reality, on the Internet we can only do two things during the waiting period of a hype game: talk theory, or complain. Actually theres also a third, bravo to the people who are back on battle.net
Theory is fine, theory is fun for the optimistic. (e.g. Because of the massive size difference between the players and the boss displayed in the gameplay trailer, can you imagine what the Big D fight is going to look like!?)
But I just want to say something to the whiners regarding D3’s “artistic direction”. First I want to make a point I can only make here on SRK. I believe I’m the only one in this thread that has made a correlation between SF4 and D3, but at the time it was only for my reasoning why it was Diablo behind the block of ice.
So who remembers the first screenshots of SF4? You all do. And now who remembers the explosion of negativity that came with that first interview? (ryu’s face is so ugly! this game looks like ass and because it looks 3D its probably going to play that way too!) – Fortunately this wasn’t a general consensus, but trying to make this very argument, I felt like I was in the vast minority. We were all there and no one can argue this whining did not exist. **This is the same fucking situation. **What makes people think the first impression is the final result is beyond the capacity of my brain, which happens to think logically. Those same people that were making post after post about Ryu’s demented face are the very same that will be enduring gas prices/air fare to play it in August. Don’t take that last sentence too seriously now, I’m just trying to make a point. The same things I’m reading now are the same things I heard a during SFIV’s initial impression. World of Diablo/Diablocraft == “The next Street Fighter EX”. To the idiots that even thought about calling SFIV the next SF:EX, are you in this thread? How do you feel about SFIV now? Yeah, it’s a rhetorical question.
If you’re unsatisfied with the games initial look go sign the lol, onlinepetition. It’s too bad Blizzard has already told the 17k petitioners they are jackasses because it’s not their game to decide and will pay for the game anyway because all their friends and loved ones are already playing.
Colors. Embrace them or go play Madden.
Rant End.
@leon_shore, I was going to take a shot at you for the Diablocraft comment but I won’t. Let me just say, I saw your art thread and you are a talented guy. So maybe the screenshots or gameplay video didn’t do it for you, as an artist you should realize the potential concept art does for a game, so why not head over to the site and check it out? http://blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/artwork/ss29.jpg – This is the art direction of the environment, pal. You think you’re gonna find a rainbow here? Theres a good chance you’ll be in this place, and plenty of demonic conjurations will be ripping out of those corpses to feast on you and your group.
Sorry, I’m leaving for CT in a few hours and I couldn’t think of any better way to pass the time! If you actually read this, damn you’re bored.
Oh no doubt abuot it.
wtf is wrong with those emo people. They really don’t want D3 to come out do they? I for one don’t want to wait six years for this to come out. Screw the fuck them. Is there a petition for the current graphic style? Shit, fuck those emo bastards@!
I did have one dissapointment.
The much bigger boss wasn’t REALLY knocking those heroes around. I could imagine it doing many thing:
It’s huge, and it has two arms. It can probably attack two heroes at once.
It’s huge, and it can swat you aside, maybe even into your ally. Why not? We have the physics engine now.
The AI needs an upgrade to match the new physics.
Why couldn’t the guy with the mace do a spinning attack that knocks you down and slides you across the floor? Even when blocked the hero is takes a few steps back.
Just a thought.
Anyone in USEast want to play later on tonight?
It’s ok. 25,000 out of the 500 millions of people who will buy/play this game is a very small amount. So those 25,000 can go kill themselves.
This game looks fucking amazing.
QFT
I don’t understand why the huge uproar.
I do agree that the character design of that warrior looks very WoW’ish, but eh, just as long as we get a new Diablo I’m happy!
The game already feels dark and macabre, just look on how the boss dies with his worm guts exploding out of his stomach.
They are complaining yet the game is barely in its infant stage, I’m sure they will bring a good amount of Diablo dark nostalgia for later stages, but like the nerds they are they whine and bitch!
I can’t wait for this amazing as hell game to come out, I want the great Diablo feeling to come back again
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but the concept art just doesn’t look sadistic, pathetic or eerie enough for my taste. The art lost the grittiness of the first two games. I guess I’m looking for something more of a throwback to the 80’s and early 90’s. Think Hellraiser, Thing, and many other horror/demonic-themed movies from that era. Where’s the graphic and disturbing shit? When I first stepped into the catacombs in Diablo 1, it just felt hopeless and intimidating. ‘What’s waiting for me in the shadows? Damn, this is some messed up shit.’
I don’t really care if it takes place after 20 years of peace. If there’s demons roaming the world, there’s gotta be some sign of their influence and presence. There just isn’t that feeling of impending doom or dispair, when you have rainbows, beautiful skies and warcraft colors/hues. I just hope it’s limited to Act 1.
The art style isn’t going to break the game, because I’ll still play it. But I’ll be damned if you won’t hear any complaining about it.
I bet people complained when D2 was first announced “OMG! What happened to my skill bars that took up half the screen!? F U Blizzard!”
One example of a game that has (so far) multiple acts with multiple areas
Here we’ve seen examples of two (2) areas, one of which looks like a jungle/ruins type motif, which in general, are usually quite vibrant.
I thought the game looked great from the gameplay trailer, and as a longtime fan of the holy trinity (Diablo/WC/SC), I didn’t get a warcraft impression off it :\
p.s. bosses biting your friggen head off = win
Besides, I’m sure all they have to do is mess with the gamma settings and add some light-radius and bam, classic diablo
Blizzard getting back to their roots, first SC2 and now D3, happy times!
The witchdoctor class looks full of win
