I really dont see why people are whining about hte color. its a new game and a new direction. Also makes me feel better since i’m pretty damn sure i dont have to worry about “Light Radius” since my monitor kinda sucks.
So you want me to go into all the nuances that set the stage for a game? How art, direction, gameplay, musical score, ambiance, pacing, etc… come together to create a singular gaming experience? And then will I have to explain how one game series is different from another?
Have you played the previous Diablo games? Because I honestly don’t think you know what the hell you’re talking about.
There was NOTHING bright or happy in Diablo I or the fate of any of the characters from Tristram (the original heroes or the npcs) in the transition to Diablo II. The only character who has survived so far is Deckard Cain. The games portrayed horror, tragedy, death, and hopelessness throughout. From the ending of Diablo I where the hero’s fate was to bear the burden of trying to contain Diablo’s Soul all the way through to Tyrael destroying the world stone at the end of Diablo II (which unfortunately can be paralleled to the world tree of the warcraft universe).
Many Diablo fans really enjoy the unique style that the series has had thus far. They don’t want bright colors or happiness. They want the macabre presentation of the previous games and they feel that the game’s current art direction does not portray that.
So what changed? Where is all the happiness at in D3? Last I checked, things are still going to shit and monsters are everywhere. The presence of sunlight doesn’t make it a happy game.
People will bitch about this and then turn around and hit up the Cow Level in D2
Diablo 3 should be just be the Diablo style game based on DotA. Obviously the Witch Doctor = the DotA Witch Doctor and Barbarian is Juggernaut, let’s just add Pudge, the Omniknight, Lina and Drow and lets call it a day.
I also just reinstalled LoD. I’m GodzillaAteMe on USEast, just started a ladder Necro.
personally, i think the art direction is nice. i don’t like a new game to simply be an updated version of a previously loved game. i don’t want “diablo 2, but slightly advanced”, i have d2, i’ve played it tinto the ground. i love d2, and it’s art direction, but to say you simply want the same feel, same abiance, same everything is stupid.
the new direction is not “bright and happy” - the presence of more light does not equate “happy, shiny game”. from the very little all of us has seen, how anyone can have any sort of ground to stand on to say this game is going to be “horrible” or a “slap in the face of diablo fans” is beyond me. shut the fuck up and wait for some more information to come to light. we know 2 classes, and what appears to be 2 different maps of the same act. to me, this just isn’t revealing more than a small taste of what diablo 3 will be.
Seems monsters are even more now in terms of numbers compared to DII, which had more then I. What I personally hope to be awesome is some kind of magic class. With all the ways you can change the enviroment that might be seriously entertaining to let some blizzard and fireball madness lose …
Oh and I do not mind the colors and stuff. DII was already a lot more colerful and not as gloomy as I but it still worked out well.
Just sad the Barbarian is back in the game, I’d rather have the old DI Fighter back with some totally new range of combat skills.

The game isnt going to come out for at least another year. Stop crying your D3 isnt all GRIM/DARK. Last I checked D2 wasnt GRIM/DARK either. again I’m looking at the game (Acts 2 and 3 were NOT uber dark and shit) Fuck if you want it to be dark in the game, when you buy it, fuck around with the settings and make it how you like it. add a brown filter, darken the contrast if you’re goin to cry and make it look all dim and REAL like so many other games…
places that were all grim/dark were the underground areas. (and I WONDER why? :rolleyes: )

I remember the first day I bought Diablo 1 for the PC when it first came out after playing the demo on PC Gaming Magazine, and I fell in love with it!
Now I can’t wait for this game to come out!
They better still have a lot of Satanic Macabre imagery on this game, thats what made Diablo 1 so good and creepy :bgrin:

I don’t get what the commotion is about the art direction. It looks great to me, and not “bright and happy” like some people are suggesting. This isn’t Super Mario Sunshine.
I think the Necro is gone. :sad: The Witch Doctor sounds too much like the Necro’s replacement. In that sense, at least we have the Necro in some form.
