I was playing against a friend’s Ibuki yesterday; she can punish Instant Overhead fierce with her neckbreaker on hit, which gives her an untechable knockdown for her crazy mixups.
ibkui isn’t a bad match you can really lame her out. you just can’t throw fire balls once she gets meter at all are you risk vortex startup shenanigans. Really she can punish any wiffed air attacks from a little outside of mid screen with ex slide.
Question about ibuki: I know you can do stuff like b.mp to deflect the kunai, but can you cancel that into fireball? Or does it count as a wiff b.mp?
Can someone give me some tips on the Guile matchup?
It seems we both can’t get offensive with each other except for SB/fire. We both can’t jump in on each other due to anti-airs, and it seems the only way I can get some damage is through some lucky sniping or jb.FP.
SB recovery is too good to IAT, I get flashkicked during IAT shenanigans. I could try to drill but his close range normals are generally better than Sim’s.
Once Guile gets a life lead, I have a really hard time
Yes, once Guile gets the lead, it’s very hard for Sim to mount a comeback. Solution? Don’t let him get the lead.
It’s a boring match-up but I think it’s pretty even. Basically whoever gets the lead first wins. Try to push him into the corner, but be very very patient while doing so, building meter in the process. Super is valuable in this match because it’s quite easy to AA Guile with his short jump arc, and you can even AA him with a jab Yoga Fire and juggle into Super if you time it right. You can also Super between the two hits of his cr. RH easily, specially if you do lk slide xxx Super. You can also U2 between the kicks, so that’s 450 free damage.
He’ll be building meter too but will most likely spend it on EX SB. Look out for those; you should be paying as much attention to his meter as to yours. Once he’s in the corner he can’t throw regular sonic booms anymore, since you can either stuff them on their start-up or punish his recovery with st. Fierce. You’ll eat a boom if you hit his recovery but the trade is in your favor.
Don’t IAT. The only way you can set up IAT on Guile is after a non-techable knock-down, otherwise he’ll simply jab / Flash Kick you out of it. No shenanigans allowed in this match-up; play extra-safe and extra-patiently. Don’t abuse Instant Overheads either; he can stuff them with a Flash Kick.
The round will likely end in time over unless the Guile player gets frustrated and you get some knockdowns to set-up IAT damage.
Trying to learn Dhalsim and I’m having trouble against Balrog. Can someone give me a quick breakdown of how I should play this match?
I’m about to go to training mode to figure out how to escape akuma’s well timed devil reverse throw on wakeup. Also was trapped in corner. Somebody caught me two times in a row with it in the corner and I know it was coming, just didn’t know how to properly react.
Anybody want to save me the trouble? I was first going to try to teleport forward (which is vulnerable on recovery), then back dash, then slide, but other than those options I think I am trapped.
This one is definitely one of dhalsims tougher matchups.

Dhalsim has invinsibility frames on his ex up blast, and I guess tower would beat it? But then you need to know for sure it is throw he is going for:o
Tower is good unless they dive kick. I’ve found some success with u2 against demon flip if you get the opportunity.
super jump cancel into iat should work (it worked in vanilla)
the problem with it is, once they know youre going to do that, you still get punished after the iat…which is probably why you should use ultra 2 in this match
What do you mean with super jump cancel Art?
what method do you all youse to IaT I usually get punish if i try to do i kinda close to my opponents
A well timed forward kick teleport should take you full screen. :wonder:
oops. sim doesnt have a superjump. i meant jump cancel -> iat. if i know 100% they will demon flip grab i just hold d, then tap up, then iat. this loses to demon flip -> palmstrike though.
i probably have more experience from this than most due to playing japan akumas 6 months before everyone else knew wassup
at one point i would just get demon flip -> grabbed into like a infinite loop over and over, hah. had to ask my boy reno to ask the other guy how to stop it. guy gave me a pained look and said (jump cancel iat, but if i know that its coming i can keep the pressure going). sure enough it did work, but i still got option selected afterwards if he knew i was going to do it.
still…the demon flip grab specifically got nerfed from vanilla. im curious if you can do ex upflame to the nerfed demon flip grab as reversal on wakeup. in vanilla if they timed it right you got grabbed clean (which is fucking retarded).
Scamp: fwd teleport? dont those get option selected, or does the recovery n a whiffed grab make it impossible now?
netherless, this is my experience from vanilla. will test new findings and post later.
just tested…unfortunately demon flip grab setup seems to work the same.
so yea, jump cancel (d, u, iat backwards on wakeup) is still your best option.) ex upflame still gets grabbed
best to use ultra 2 to prevent him from doing option selects post iat…
If he’s directly above, forward teleport would take you to the opposite side of the screen. I do that all the time against crossups and VE’s who try to super me in the corner while I’m waking up. About his recovery, will test tonight.
Having difficulty setting up a a decent vortex in the training room. Forward kick teleport definitely DOES NOT work.
What are his options against light slide, back dash OR light slide, back teleport?
Thanks Sabin. I’ll keep that in mind.
I am very new to competitive SSF4 play as well as playing dhalsim in general but dudley is giving me all kinds of problems. Sure if he’s gonna back all the way to one end of the screen and not attempt to jump over fireballs i can outzone him with fp, but once he gets over a fireball it gets pretty complicated. If i dont throw out a fb, he just FA dashes a limb to close the distance or he just uses his jump fp. More often than not that was beating out my b HK and b MP. I’m sure if i had more time I probably could’ve figured a way out but we are talking about a guy who can stun u in 4-5 hits… its a lot of damage and for a newbie player like myself it totally destroys the pace of the game as i end up playing catch up for the rest of the round and have to be very wary of punishes… I’d upload a replay but how do i do that? I have not yet unlocked the ability to upload ranked match replays… sorry really new.
this may not be the best solution but you can also slide under him then teleport away or throw if he’s jumping in close with HK or FP.
