Dhalsim's Matchups

i will try it next time i play one. my only concern is discerning when he will do a jump up and an off the wall. if he jumps up, then i believe i will just eat his stretchy limbs, but if he off the walls that may be an option.

b.mp AA’s his off the wall

Stick to normals and don’t IAT. Whoever teleports second will win.

Any ideas against a turtling Sagat?

indeed it does thanks

n.hp beats ken/ryu’s hurrican kick?

yes that beats hurricae dhp, i dont get y people dont try these simple things in trainginmode

I tried it in training mode and neutral hp, NOT dhp beats hurricane kick.

I should also add just how great neutral hp is. It has extra range compared to dhp, even though the animations for both look so similar.

Can someone please clear up the option select throw in great detail about the timing or make a video? I can only get it to work 5% of the time and if I try to tech high i just eat a stupid ass low MK and tatsumaki or the equivalent. I’m getting completely dicked online by throws and 0 way of defending myself.

How can you tech throws better? Its like a 3 frame start up theres literally no way to react…i dont know what to do anymore. Im flustered and frustrated and disgusted with this character’s helplessness on a knockdown. Its pathetic.

i also have great trouble teching throws, ive teched while crouch blocking/mashing/timing in training but obviusly i know its coming. tips would be great or a link to the tech throw thread as i am having trouble finding it

Aim to be the first one who throws! The best that can happen is that you throw. The neutral thing that will happen is that you BOTH tech. The worst that can happen is your thrown.

Avoid all his fireball using yogafire, lk slide and tower.
Try to put him in the corner (especially using lk slide that whiffs also low shots) and start the guessing game :

j.hp overhead or crouching mp/hp?
You can also hit with s.hp before he tries to tiger shot you.

After few hits, he’ll start to jump…punish him with b.hk.

Doa lot of matches against that char, because it’s not easy to learn the timing.

There really isn’t any fancy technique for this.
Hit throw during blockstun after every hit of their blockstrings when they are within throw range. Be smart about it; don’t just mash throw. Do not get nervous.

After a few hits of the blockstring, they will probably be outside of throw range and need to take a step or two forward to grab you. If you see their string stop on the border of throw range, try to react accordingly.

I don’t do any fancy twinking, dinking, plinking or tsuji-kara option clinking or whatever advanced technique people around here talk about and I manage to tech reasonably well.

that ^^ after 2/3 normals they should be out of throw range and then u can start your “block string”

not always viable. a decent opponent will bait whiffed throws and punish.

hehe theres a lot more to it. filipino champ has been in the labbing figuring out frame traps n shit. fucking he always beasts me in mirror, but after he told me some secrets it really makes the match more interesting

I’ll play you  PS3 gamertag misterbiggs

This new breed of Ryu who likes to back themselves into the corner purposefully against Dhalsim, crouch, and hurl Ex fireballs any time you approach, and do nothing but block is an absolute disgrace to Ryu as a character. When did this suddenly become a trend to out turtle dhalsim? And sadly it works and seems like the best strategy…sure you can slide and do a jumping back fierce to overhead him but it only gets you so far before they catch on. These matches are so boring. Its actually worse than Guile.

At least Guile has no choice, which by the character is designed. These Ryu’s should be ashamed though.

if they’re winning there’s no need for them to be ashamed.

…sounds more like you should be ashamed for losing against such strategies…

Hmmm…well, now that you’re done with your fizzled attempt at an insult, I’ll add that I’ve won my fair share against them, quite easily I might add, but I’ve lost to them too due to a bad break. It’s beside the point. That character wasn’t designed with that in mind and you know it, and its becoming the new staple to “out dhalsim” dhalsim. Its a pretty damn safe plan when you take into account how unversatile Sim can be with straight pokes and one overhead option outside of risky ports.

At that point its all about finding openings when he lets down his guard. But even when you’re owning them they refuse to budge from the corner. And yes these are players in high G2, and G1 doing this. Its even in their strat page.

who cares if you use the character the way he was “supposed” to be used or not? if it is a winning tactic (and in this case, it isn’t anyway) go for it.

you say you win a lot of these matches easily and still claim that it seems to be ryus best anti-sim tactic? I’m not sure what you’re complaining about.

if you think it’s boring, play another game, or find decent players who aren’t boring to play against and arrange player matches.
