Dhalsim's Matchups

A turtling Ryu = free win.

Ryu wreaks havoc on sim when he is up close and unpredictable with overheads, cross ups, tick throws etc.

A Ryu that sits in the corner and throws hados against sim is hilarious.

Slide in or yoga spear over fballs to within fierce range. Maintain your ground with yoga tower. Don’t throw many yoga fires so you don’t get tagged by ex hado or tatsus. Trade fierce with regular hado. Mix up ex yoga fires with regular if you like to get into fball wars to keep him honest. Jump back fierce him when he is crouching a few times then bait the srk and punish.

You should not be losing against a ryu that sits in the corner.

Noone can ‘out dhalsim dhalsim’. Well maybe an excellent Chun or Sagat can but that is a story for another thread.

Speaking of filipino champ. How did he do at EVO (I know I’m late) ?

I seriously need some strategy against Balrog.

All AA not so good against him. B+RH , B+MP, even the crouch.MP (from ultradavid AA post).

Especially in corner he hurt so much and his ULTIMATE jap punch…

Any tips? I got 73% win rate overall but damn i got so much trouble against balrog on G1…

Complaining about a turtling Ryu? Are you serious? That’s like complaining about a free lunch.

Watch yourself with option selecting.

Truthfully, its a pretty powerful technique at ‘decent’ skill level. I was option selecting like crazy until last weekend, and doing it I would rarely get thrown online or in the arcade. But at TX, Arturo/Sabin straight up exposed my technique. He observed that I was option selecting, started ended his block strings way early to bait out my short, and then taxed me for massive damage.

There’s a time and a place to option select, but don’t get reckless against real quality players.

edit: just read about option select, i guess delaying the hits you will see the FA i can see how that can be punished but cant you dash out?

You really shouldn’t be complaining about losing to a turtling Ryu. Dhalsim is the anti-turtler character and can hit from half screen away in the air and 2/3rd’s away on the ground. Only one fire ball/hadoken/whatever can be on the screen so if you mk slide it or yoga tower it, you have enough time to close in just enough distance to attack with fierce punch and even stop a hadoken from being used, or eventually work enough to get them into a corner. Good players will go between turtling and offensive rush down.

lp yoga flame works very well if you use it a lot. Just be aware there is a small opening where they can rush you down with a charge punch if they’re really good at timing, but there’s not very many balrogs used to fighting good Dhalsim’s who know the match-up well. Yoga flame can break super armor and it comes out quickly and stays out for some time, mainly use it on ex moves. Also, Yoga drill (jumping down lk) in the air and get out, that will help you a lot even if you take a fierce after getting out.

Boxer is designed to get around fireballs with his TAP and EX dashes so don’t go yoga fire happy.

EX dashes and full screen dashes are throwable on reaction. Throw them a couple of times and EX dashes will stop. Normals will stop standard dash in its tracks. j.fierce beats TAP. Be careful of using jb.fierce instant overhead since a headbutt can lead to ultra.

A good rog will not jump at you until they realise they can’t get close any other way since TAP and EX dash are nullified. They start doin’ random jumpins, punish with AAs, ultra or super.

I used to have the hardest time against Balrog but now it’s a lot easier with the above method.

lol true, I would love if all ryu players do this, it will make my like so much easier lol.

Its the in your face jump happy blankas that I hate, so hard to anti-air their jumpins.

Hi, when able is at mid range and does a roll, after i hear him say yeeee i do bhk and it hits, but what do i do if able is pressuring me close up, also he uses many lk rolls like 3 right next to me and im not to sure on whats effective against it, i tried doing bk lk but i kept getting comboed or thrown. ty

Recently ALL RYU ON G1 (PS3…) play like this

WTF EVEN IYO GOT TROUBLE AGAINST THIS.

The FULLSCREEN tactic… You cant not really AA if they jump at good distance and sometime they mix it with Hurricane in the air. Focus and of course once you are down is like against Zangief, try to guess what next…

I see so many random hurricane. Is like playing on G3 against flowKEN-dragon punch. Now is the new G1 flowRYU-hurricane.
WTF IS THIS NEW WEIRD STRATEGY?!

vs Sagat : What the best against the MP jump (close)? I tried everything and the best i found is “trade with him” but always risky… any idea?

Good luck Tomle. They just got done ripping me a new asshole for even mentioning the very thing you’re talking about like I was some kind of moron, even though what I said was right on the money. I’m glad you brought it up. They think that these are just ordinary Ryus that don’t know what they are doing, unfortunately. In actuality these are pretty competent guys who are using spacing very carefully, and are trying to lull to sleep with “fireball wars” when their real goal is to catch you with hurricanes and EXs out of the corner then mix up on knockdown. Anyway, I’m glad you confirm what I’m talking about…and if they call you crazy, well, I believe you.

as for Sagat, I was normally scared to trade, but its just worth it and I’d trade it and backdash to regroup. Better than eating one of his ridiculous combos.

Can’t deny that Ryu is a good character and has too many freaking options with combo’s and approaches D:. There is usually an answer to every option and I’m used to seeing jump -> hurricane -> lp shoryuken right after which you can win against if you continue blocking. I have beaten jumping hurricane with jumping mp before though. It just takes some skill and the correct timing and distancing.

Just because Ryu can play safe with fireball spamming doesn’t mean he can do it the entire match (and those kind of Ryu’s should be easy to deal with). They may try to punish your fireball with Hurricane, but that can be ducked or punished with fierce so long as you aren’t relying on hitting a hadoken with a yoga fire all the time. To be on the safe side, you can yoga tower so that he’s not immediately able to throw another fire ball (slow or fast hadokens) or slide under it (fast hadokens mainly). You just need to work a lot on playing defensively and using your options to punish, cause it’s not just yoga fire yoga fire fierce punch knee.

I hardly ever throw fires at ryu, especially one that does random shit. 50 damage is not worth it against much more from tatsus and ex hadous. The worse part is they knockdown and sim’s wakeup game is very limited. Don’t put yourself in that situation.

Random tatsus is easily punished by db.mp, db.hp, s.hp, b.hk etc. Slide under, spear over or yoga tower hadou/ex hadou and punish with s.hp. Rinse and repeat.

Im not afraid of Fireball war or Hurricane. But that new “pressure” with ex hurricane and mix up Hurricane in air is pretty hard to AA. Some of them using alot of FA only for get close.

Dhalsim really suck for wakeup game, so many round i lead at first and lost… cough

Not sure if this has been posted previously, but my Yoga Mummy beat Blanka’s Ultra. It was the weirdest thing because I was trying to jump away and teleport (and obviously entered in the wrong command). Yoga mummy comes out and beats him and the peak of his Ultra. Has anybody else had this happen to them before?

Ya, the drill work too.

Btw I wish someone update this thread, (check other character, especially like ryu). So many good info against every character. Im really jealous… our thread not update and suck really…

Phillipinochamp? Sabin? Ultradavid? Any pro sim?

Ugh, I’m getting hopelessly dominated by C.Viper. Even by CPU vipers! I even set up some high level CPUs to fight each other (Sim vs Viper) and Viper even won in the CPU battles! How the hell am I supposed to beat this bitch?

Just played against a Rufus that’s doing dive kicks like crazy. I know it’s been discussed before but cannot find it through 30 pages.

What is the best way for Dhalsim to stop the continuous dive kicks from Rufus?

Keep him out in the first place. Crouch jab is a decent AA against the dive kick itself.
