down back mk into yoga flame en back lk into yoga fire best option SO FAR i think.
maby lk slide into yoga flame
Thanks to all the responses to my post.
I fought 3 Zangiefs yesterday in G2; didn’t have any trouble beating any of them and feel I’m learning the matchup now. I still have to stop randomly trying to stuff the lariat with fierce when jumping back (j. forward seems to work much better, as someone recommended).
I also played about 15 matches against a Gief in Player Match who didn’t have very good execution but was very, very patient and had decent footsies. It was challenging for sure but I learned a lot about the match-up in the process.
DARn BIson Is the onLy one what still kills Me.
It try to yoga tower he counters it with jump in. i try to zone with mp en mk doenst work . close range I always eat a bnb. anti air his jump in trades almost all the time. mind games no no
btw i only play against 1 bison Top Player of Nl
i dont now Is it The bison player or i is it a problem 4 evry sim.
Anyone Got tips gameplay tips
I’ve been playing a lot against a bison recently and this is a tough match up, especially when bison gets you cornered and starts doing lk scissor block strings.
-
b.mp will stuff his headstomp, or you can dash backwards so that he misses and hit him with a b.lk or lk.slide on his recovery. If its an ex headstomp, just block, b.mp gets stuffed and lk.yoga blast is an unfavorable trade.
-
Careful throwing out yoga fire when he has meter, his ex headstomp will quickly knock you down.
-
His teleport has terrible recovery (42 frames). I usually throw him if he teleports next to me.
-
If you block headstomp and skull crusher he has a pretty large frame advantage still and will most likely go into a lk scissor block string if you’re in the corner with him.
-
If he is doing lk scissor in the corner you can get a b.lk out on block, he can block it, or it will trade with his c.lk, and beat his c.lp. Either way you’re creating a bit of space after that combo.
-
I don’t really know what to do about his ex scissor kick, its really fast, beats standing/jumping fierce easily, and it knocks down. Just try not to be predictable with j.hp when he has meter. If you can see any predictable scissor kick coming (this is a common opening move from bison) you can knock him out of it with neutral jump hk.drill.
-
b.mp will stuff both regular and ex devils reverse
-
If bison is rushing you down, utilize your kkk teleport back as a getaway tool, try to refrain from jumping away from bison his air to air mp is good and recovers quickly enough for him to set up his ultra.
me!
I find a very difficult matchup, because Abel can reduce the gap in a second with his rolls.
His jump is pretty fast and annoying… he’ll cross up you a lot during the match.
I use a lot of teleport and jumps, sometimes when he’s very close, I do a Tower to whiff his special grab… I try to use lk slide + grab when I see a flip kick start.
Against rolls I dunno how to do because a skilled Abel player knows the distance to do them.
I’ve also a lot of problems against Ex-Change of Direction.
Any tips?
I’ve just been in training mode for studying some counters against Abel.
vs Change of direction: BLOCK the first hit, and when the second hit is coming (don’t care if it’s the high or low) just FA a little bit before been hitting for the second time. The time is tight but you’ll have a free combo! It doesn’t work if he does only one hit or FADC. Need hard training.
vs Rolls: if you want to hit him you’ve to slide. LK slide to be sure to hit him before he can grab you, but I fear he wil be in frame advantage… HK slide is GREAT but risky, sometimes misses. The voice of Abel may help: he say something like “yee - e -to!”. Hit him after hear “yee - e” Don’t work with EX Roll that have low invincibility.
Any other tips will be appreciated
FA -> back dash on the second hit? Maybe? I’d have to test it but that seems like a good option considering Sim’s bitchin’ back dash.
Abel cross-ups are a serious pain in the ass to block <__<, I think they’re on par with Ryu, or even better because even after you block most of the hits, you have to worry about his stupid rekkan combo and the 2nd hit hitting either high or low, or his grab being blocked high or low and the cue’s for the 2nd hit with his low kick are very quick and hard to react to. If you mis-predict, they get to throw you down and do the same thing again, or screw you up by just walking up to you and throwing you. It’s extremely annoying :<. Plus I learned his mp in the air (might be fierce punch) can beat B. RH in the correct angle. Once he get’s up close to you when you’re down, it’s very hard to get away.
I meant to FA 2nd level, and hit him just after absorbing the second hit!
Anybody got any tips on fighting Fei Long?
so yeah i think the sim thread needs to discuss sim viper matchup. im tired tho so ill discuss it later when i wake up. i found a lot of stuff vs viper afterwards (had a session with combofiend) on monday that should work pretty well.
tao jones, you need to tell us what youre having trouble with first in that match, that would help a lot.
Hey guys, Kinda new sim player here looking for a little direction. I started with sim when the game first came out on console for about a month. I just really liked his odd playstyle and zoning techniques. I soon left him to the side to explore the other various players and what they had to offer. I felt the more i learned the other characters the better i would be able to play with each. I eventually found a main in Rufus, ( i love his constant pressure approach) which has been leading my thoughts back to Sim lately. I really feel that a good sim can be a constant threat no matter where he is on screen. Ive been reading alot of the posts on this thread and have a general idea of the approach i would like to take. Much respect to all you guys who have put in the time to grind these ideas out.
It seems to me that the first thing a new sim player should practice is his standing AA game. Having a strong AA game with sim pretty much opens your offense right?. So i plan on practicing this pretty heavy, both in practice mode and online.
Next seems to be knowing your pokes and where they land and what ranges.
Then comes knowing how to mind game with his teleports and slides
Then finally i see trying to learn the more detailed tactics of setting yourself up for combos and eventually combos into Ultras/ Supers.
I might be wrong on all of this but from what ive read in this forum it seems to bee the general approach that i think makes most sense to take as far as steps to learning him.
Unlike most characters the impression that i get from Sim is that you want to first play somewhat defensive and see the tactics that your opponent is using and shut those down as soon as possible. Then once the player is out of his groove and trying to figure out how to approach it next you apply pressure with pokes and such frustrating him to the point in which you can really mix up and mind screw him allowing you to go offensive and take him out. At least this is the approach that i would like to take first round. by second round i would think i would have a better idea of how to approach the player and dominate.
Im sure from the veterans out there that if im stating something obvious then ill probably get laughed but again im a rather new player to the street fighter series and to fighting games in general. ( last fighting game i really devoted any time to at all was the first street fighter 2 game back when i was like 8 years old). Anyways i have fallen in love with the art of combat all over again now some 20 years later. The mental stimulation that comes with it really appeals to me, along with the fact that this game has frustrated me to the point of rage fits and many many cigarette breaks to stop and think about what im doing right and wrong. It just seems to grab hold of me lately like no other game ive ever played. My other games have all been collecting dust and my xbox 360 has turned into a sf4 machine.
Well i know now im rambling off topic so ill wrap it up. I just really wanted to know if as far as the mental thoughts of a matchup in general go, am i taking the right approach? I try not to consider matchups by character but moreso by the mental approach of the person playing the character. Of course i consider the characters strengths and weaknesses but im really starting to think that its muchmore whose behind the controller than the character itself.
Anyways Much thanks to all you guys who have given me vast amounts of information to mull over on these forums, i have spent countless hours here reading and formulating ideas and testing them to see what fits me. I really appreciate all of the info that you guys share here on a daily basis, as i am sure many other scrub players out there do too.
P.S my xbox360 gamertag is Zombichef btw and im always up for learning new tactics and ideas so if anyone of you veterans would like to teach a student that is more than willing to learn and apply ideas im all open for it. There arent many sf4 players out here where i live and i pretty much get all of my play experience online.
When Guile does the double sweep, is there anything you can do to counter it? I think I read you can do a lk sweep. Is there time to FA2 in between the sweeps? I know you can FA1, but then he can just flash kick you afterwards.
backdash after the FA1 and you won’t be flashkicked.
That or you can use B+lk.
Nevermind about Fei Long, I had just never really fought him much and didn’t know what to do about his constant charging of focus attack, its really fast and can hit limbs on reaction basically. His chicken wing hops over yoga fire and limbs really well. Bottom line in this match, stay grounded, throw yoga fires from full screen and try to keep him at that range… try not to fall into any patterns as he can chicken wing and get in on any good guess, and once he’s in its hard to get him away.
Definitely want to hear what you found against viper, sabin. It looked like a really tough matchup.
Had you not fought a good Viper before? I get games in with Combo and Victoly now and then. They tend to beat me more than I beat them, but it’s not usually too bad.
i thought the vipers i play against on EC were pretty good, ( i was playing rashaan/jsutinw/marn/floe/etc etc) but clearly they arent good compared to combos viper.
I really hate lp shoryuken from Ryu <<. If he’s in the air and about the land, you try using a fierce and as soon as they land on the ground, they can shoryuken immediately. Also the fact that it hits low as well when you’re clearly sliding :<. And jumping hurricane to get behind you, ugh D:. Even Sagat can’t spam tiger uppercut as often >>. The time you can punish it is very minimal.
If ryu’s spamming the hell out of srk’s I tend to turtle up more and throw out more fireballs or flames, hk slide when coming down. Though I’ll admit ryu’s probably my worst match up. The amount of chip damage alone from ryu is sickening. I have to start remembering to stuff hurricane kicks with back+d HP rather than blocking cause I went back and watched some matches and was amazed at how much chip damage a blocked hurricane kick does. Like you said, I’ve lost to ryu’s who start randomly guessing and throwing out srk’s, which is good because the more it happens the better I’ll be ready for it.
BTW does sim have any moves at all that have invincibility frames? maybe the super?
