Dhalsim's Matchups

Actually after blocking his dash punch, you have frame advantage, so you can do back+short or back+forward after to counter any jabs he might try.

Ok…good to know. Guess it’s my timing.

Actually I shouldn’t make such a blanket statement about that. There are ranges where you can beat his post-straight dash jab with your back+short or down+short, and there’s a very specific range where you can beat or trade with it with your back+medium kick.

I’m still having problems with cammy…Her air cannon spike beats out my B+strong and B+RH, I can’t find a comfortable range to keep her at because of EX hooligan and cannon arrows under my fireballs. Another thing is I can’t use IAT because she constantly knocks me out the air with her fierce attack, or even a jab.

It just sounds to me like you need to polish your game a bit.

Ex Hooligan should be teleported/slid away from.

Cannon Arrows are easy to deal with, and even if you screw up, you can Tower/do something.

Using IAT is a risk, but in general you don’t want to do it when they know your going to do it. IATing right out of the path of a cannon spike, and punishing right after, is more of what you want to be doing.

Basically, try to stay grounded against cammy if you can. Block what you can, and zone her. If you go in the air, you better be ready to teleport out of the path of a spike.

Very good post David, this helped me a lot last night in a match against a boxer.

I managed to find the specific range where you can beat it with back + med kick (which seems to be slightly shy of B+MKs max range), and this was totally stuffing the Rog player I was fighting.

Good stuff.

trying to get an update on what everybody’s takes are now that theres been exposure to this matchup? Given I haven’t played in a tournament for years, and I’ve only been playing online my results will for sure differentiate from those of you who are in tourneys.

just throw rog out of his ex dash punches. it’s free.

Guys i know this sounds insanely stupid, but im having serious problem against one particular character, and only this character for that matter - Dan! (Well a Dan that knows what he’s doing)

For some reason my B.HK or B.MP can’t counter the jump-in knee thing that he does, and it just makes it so hard to keep him at a distance other then IAT away, any thoughts on that?

if he’s at sweep distance or further try an early standing mp. i’ve started to use this more than my standing hp now for the speed. also if you can get a tiger knee’d teleport as he does the kick you should land a free hp…possible into Sim’s bnb depending on how far away he gets and how far into his kick he’s in. Also i think a timed sk slide may go underneath as well. Hope that helps some.

I’m having the hardest time beating the boxer and the dictator. Seems to me the boxer has an answer for everything that I threw out. he just goes through my fireballs with his rush punches. I cant teleport behind him because a regular standing jab punch always beats my headbutts. @%#%$@ just so freakin’ frustrated.

As for the dictator, I dont have an answer to his head stomps. Right now my strategy is to jump back f->mp when he tries to head stomp me. I know I can teleport but inmagine teleporting throughout the whole fight and not being able to touch the other guy?

any help will be appriatiated

  1. Boxer: He can only get through yoga fires with EX rush punches. Either use an EX fire, or hit a normal attack (like standing mp) to knock him out of it. Not to mention that you can usually punish on block anyway. Headbutt is more of an issue in this fight.

  2. Head stomps are very easy to get around. Backdash (or forward if your sure hes commited to stomp, I wouldn’t forward but you could), teleports, jumps at the right angle, etc…

Also, you can teleport around and still hit people. I usually teleport right behind the Bison player as he whiffs his headstomp, and then smack them with something.

TAP and headbutt go through fireballs…

I’ve been getting really used to the Rog matchup over the past few weeks.

At max range Standing Short is really good against Rog, not only is it a great opener it also knocks him out of turnaround punch and all his dash punches. Standing Short also gives you enough time to block incoming ex dash punches. Depending on the distance you can mash out another Standing Short and knock him out of his EX dashes as well. Overall I think the normal is pretty safe to throw out from time to time.

Yoga tower is king in this matchup. after a jab yoga fire, you can anticipate the EX dash punches and yoga tower for the free grab.
On Oki Yoga tower is really solid as well. Mix in meaty Downback Fierce and Yoga tower for mind games on a rising Rog. Meaty Downback Fierce is even more dangerous if you have super available. Of course you have to make them scared to do wake up headbutts to make Yoga tower an effective oki.

Using Ultra effectively in the matchup can be tricky. You have to keep in mind that while the move is being done (Dhalsim’s Ultra animation) Rog gets a free charge, so he can headbutt through and hit you or just get out with no harm done. You have to space the Ultra so that Headbutt wouldn’t tag you, but you’re in position to punish it when he lands.

Last thing is don’t be afraid of his ex dashes and his overall rush down. This matchup was impossible for me when I was afraid to just block and tried to teleport out every chance I got.
Just be patient, block his dash punches and punish them accordingly. Up close Back.Short and Back.Forward are really really good to push him back.

I hope that helps people, I fucking suck in this game…:frowning:

I wasn’t saying that they don’t.

He said he couldn’t deal with rush punches, and I told him that he can easily. I wasn’t saying that Balrog has no ways to deal with fires lol.

Maybe the way I worded it was confusing. What I meant was "Balrog has no “rush punch” ways, to deal with fires, outside of EX, which can still be stuffed by fires anyway.

It can actually be risky, because the rush punches that hit high will still hit. A good boxer may use those if he thinks your going to YT. I most definitely would not get YT happy in this match up, as it could easily bite you in the ass (not to mention doing it in headbutt range, like you state, is risky).

You have to get some facts straight before you try to refute anyone’s post. Yoga tower does indeed avoid all rush punches. Seriously read my post again and try to comprehend.

No need to be condescending here.

I read your post, every word of it. I have no problems with comprehension (although you misinterpreted my post, so /shrug). If anyone has comprehension problems here, its you. I may be wrong, but I’ve understood everything stated perfectly. You completely missed the point of my initial post, which is obvious since you state “taps and headbutts go through fireballs”, when I was talking about how no rush punches do.

However, I may be misinformed. I was under the impression that Balrogs Dash Uppers hit YT. If they do not, as you are stating, then I am wrong, and have no problem admitting that.

No need to be an ass about it though.

Edit: Just tested it.

If Balrog is a full screen away, YT will NOT avoid upper dash punches.

If he is less then full screen away, he will pass through YT.

After more testing, it seems that in the corner, even if Rog passes through the YT, the dash upper still hits you in the back of the head.

After even more testing (all previous tests were done with fierce version), it seems that whether or not Sim avoids it or not completely depends on Rogs spacing.

If Rog travels far enough “pre-swing” YT will avoid the rush punch. So if he uses a fierce version right next to you for instance, it goes right through Sim.

On the flipside, if Rog swings his arm BEFORE passing through Sim, he will hit Sim out of the YT (or about directly under, and he will hit you in the back of the head).

So in summation:

YT does not automatically avoid Rogs Dash Upper. Depending on the spacing, Rog will either go through Sim and whiff, or hit him out of the YT.

This thread was amazingly helpful. Especially Sabin, Cole, David, and MOTHERFUCKING Biscuits. Other too but those guys gave me a really solid grasp on what I should be doing. I have match up advice but I’m too stoned to post it right now

two thumbs up for the thread
very helpful!

B+HK>Stomps

Bison to do in this match? Is this in his favor or 5-5?
