Dhalsim's Matchups

And be careful of his cr.HP. Its a launcher than he can combo Ultra off. And yeah, I usually throw them out of their rolls, unless theyre rolling form the other side of the screen. Then I st.HP to get them as the recover from it.

ANYone TiPs against gouken’s Counter Move (Kongoshin i fought yesterday against a very skilled japanese gouken player en he counterd me all day long:plol

i dont play any sim players but your teleport is in big trouble

wELL got another problem fa kills sim what do you players do against fa or fadc persons

if you dont get me watch this

It depends on what exactly, the opponent is doing.

Long range FAs, can punish things like j fp and s fp. If you know there timing their FAs to try and punish this, you can use quicker limb attacks (like s mp), and fires timbed with limb hits.

Those close up FAs, depending on the timing, can be dealt with in numerous ways.

  1. If the opponent is just doing a level 1, a block will work, and allow you to punish.
  2. You can use an attack that hits twice, if they are going for a higher level, such as B + fp, or ex fire.
  3. You can jump, and punish.
  4. You can teleport away.
  5. You can use your own FA to absorb the FA and counter.

etc… I’m sure there are even more.

What you don’t want to do, is what that guy did in that video, mk slide into FAs will get you owned. Also, try to figure out the mind-games being played, and what level FAs the guy is likely to do.

If you’re getting beaten by his counter, it’s because you’re getting too predictable. You need to vary up your timing, use different pokes, and try mixing in the occasional empty teleport -> throw (this is stupidly dangerous most of the time, of course, but if you run into a Gouken that you can see just LOVES his counter, it works - empty jumps are also an option, just not for Dhalsim because his is so slow). In general, I’ve been seeing more Goukens lately, and a lot of them try to spam the counter in response to everything. The way it usually works out is that they miss a counter because they expect me to attack, and I get a free limb afterwards. The ones you need to worry about are the Goukens that use the counter very sparingly, and make you forget they have it until you commit to something big and predictable and get owned.

mY opponent is a Goukens that use the counter very sparingly . he counters me evry time after a IA HP en 4 the rest he uses it on times you never expect that hes gonna do that.
BUT thnx 4 the info both of you GUys :lovin:

Quick question: Dhalsim’s FA absorbs Balrog’s EX dash punch right? All versions of them?

NOP you cant absorb balrog’s dash low smash en dash swing blow en a normal turn punch because the moves have armor break properties

yeah the only thing i just FA absorb are fire balls and some counters. its really risky man due to the fact that sim absorbs a little too much of the hits.

Any more tips against cammy players? I can’t seem to keep space with her because of EX hooligans and spiral arrows.

I don’t like Cammy either, but I hate the cannon strikes in the air more, it just randomly beats some of my anti airs sometimes.

Against ex hooligans i think crouching means it can hit you at all. You can block the kick at the end of if they go for the grab I don’t think it hits crouching opponents but im not sure. Maybe teleporting early enough too could work just to get away, just as she launches it.

Spiral arrows I don’t have as much of a problem with though.
I haven’t been playing dhalsim for that long though…

I usually teleport away from hooligans, and punish.

Also, Yoga Tower will avoid hooligan, spiral, and backspin.

For cannon spikes, I try to teleport out of them just as they are coming, and punish the cammy player while in the air. If you mess up your timing though you eat the spike.

Hooligan loses to b strong and b rh from sim and you can yoga tower cannon drills and punish fyi. Also its hard to get the safe distance for blocked cannon drill without being punished badly for it on cammys end.

you have to keep firm ground with her, stay just outside of midscreen and you should be fine. never ever back into a corner. be active with pokes and anti-airs when she jumps, a timed jab fire works good against far hooligan. When you make her honest to your game then start the mixups: ie jab fire setups, when cammy players realize i wont let them jump all over the place they like to start turtling and time up cannon spikes, when she does that she has already lost.

when sim is zoning cammy out w/ fireballs and cammy goes for that full screen ex hooligan, sim can do a back+mp to hit her clean

How do you guy’s defeat good honda players? Whenever they get in close they seem to just spam sumo splash and I have a really difficult time blocking/getting away from them.

Funny that you mention Honda because I was just talking about him the other day and how I NEVER see a Honda on XBL.

For the Sumo splash, you can just back teleport out, I think.

My toughest matchup is still Balrog. Against other characters, even when I feel I’m at a disadvantage (Blanka, etc), I can still make it a tough fight, and even win a few matches. But when I’m up against a skilled Balrog who knows all of Sim’s tricks…it’s not even close. He gets in with ease and then it’s over.

The one saving grace is that I know I’m playing dumb and there is a ton of shit I need to fix. One is doing less j.hp when he has headbutt charged. Other is less s.hp because I get nailed with his EX rush punch. I also need to learn how to do Sim’s short range attacks (c.lp, s.lp, s.mk) used to push people back.

I do have a question though…when Balrog does it rush punch, and you block it, seems like he is immediately able to let off a bunch of jabs which keep me from punishing and/or pushing back with lp attacks of my own. Is it just bad timing on my part or do his rush punches have that little recovery?

Balrog has probably the best jab in the game. There really isn’t anything you can do to stuff his jabs that close.

So, trying to punish/use your own lp/lk attacks will not work.

If he rush punishes you, and its not ex, he should be eating a yoga fire btw (unless you were airborne, then teleport behind him).

Save your ex meter for fires to stuff his ex punches (and if he doesn’t do any ex punches, then you have a super to fire off).
