So the other day i was playing a guile who tried to RH flashkick all day and kept missing which left him very exposed. What is the most damaging thing sim can do after a whiffed flash kick?/ combos?
I know you read my FAQ first, right?
Most people are going to tell you that throwing is the best thing to do if he ends up right next to you. I’d agree. The only other thing that you could possibly try would be interrupting a crouching normal into the Yoga Inferno. That’s extremely high-risk.
Of course, if Guile ends up at least 1/3 of a screen away from you, then it’s Jab Yoga Fire, (insert normal or Drill here)…but that would require some serious spacing and timing to pull off.
Wouldn’t back fierce be a good option too?
Yeah, if you dont have super, the 2-hit headbutt is a really good choice. Besides doing decent damage it also does tons of dizzy. One more hit and you get more damage.
^^^^^ What he said… .again…
So I’ve got dhalsim’s tactics down pretty well from practice and watching cole/gian videos. My problem is I can’t consistently do dhalsim’s super in matches. I play on a japanese square gait (ps3 hori fight stick 3) is there any special way to buffer, because I am missing out on easy chip damage by not being able to do the super. Maybe I should just stfu and sit in training mode until I get it, but I’ve really had trouble inputting this super consistently.
EDIT: I’d also like to get this cleared up. When you pin someone in the corner with yoga flames are you supposed to do heavy punch flames or light punch flames I’ve heard conflicting advice. I guess as a follow up I’d like to confirm whether the upward flame to stuff their jump out of the corner attempts is heavy kick or light kick as well. I’ve been using heavy punch/heavy kick so I hope I haven’t been doing this trap wrong.

The only way to get good at Sim’s super is to practice. Practice, practice, practice. Go into training mode and set the super settings to always on. Also, try different attacks, drills etc and finish the attacks with the super motion. You just have to become very natural at doing the motion and eventually it will become second nature.

The light flame works the best for me in the corner. However, if the opponent is knocked down, you’ll want to first do a heavy or medium flame, then all of the following flames will be light. The reason for this is the light flames are quicker and you can continue to do them over and over until your opponent jumps out or reversals. I found the light kick up-flame is the best for me as well. Because if you miss with the light up-flame, or if they don’t jump, then you can continue with your corner trap or defend yourself depending on what your opponent does next.
Super motion: Don’t try to do it quickly, a slower full motion is the key to getting it out consistanly.
Flame trap: This really depends on the character and the situation. It can be a solid strategy for short periods of time agaisnt certain character and player types. But, solid players will get out of it if you do it anymore than 2-3 times. More often or not, do it once or twice, wait let them try to jump/ excape in anticpation and punish accordingly.
alright I think I’ve got it straight now. Heavy flame after knockdown and light flames afterwards. And fatboy from every video I’ve seen of great players what you said is exactly correct. The pattern I very often see is 2 ground flames, a pause and then an air flame. I’ll just keep practicing that super motion and hopefully it will become more fluid. And KTM I am ROFLchopter on PSN, I believe we’ve crossed paths more than once.
Is boxer supposed to be a tough match-up? I realize the idea should be to zone him out with yoga fires/limbs, but he seems awfully difficult to keep out to me.
^^ Yeah man, we’ve played. I hate sim vs sim so I’ll usually use someone else if I know you’re gonna use him. I have a question for you though about the super. Are you using a regular ps controller or do you have a stick?
He has the same kind of stick I’m always whining about lol.
I think I’ve played him once or twice too, we should get him into our rooms.
Yeah invite me in. ALTHOUGH ps3 has been buggy as hell for me lately and I’ll accept an invite and nothing will happen. I’m looking for anyone who wants to play against dhalsim, because I need a lot more practice to even be reasonable with him.
That works, however versus shotos when I pause and counter, I counter with a slide combo on the jump. It does way moer life and can dizzy!
Yes, Boxer is hard match up. Watch the Gian versus Watson vids on youtube. That will help a lot.
I have that same invite problem all the time, I’m thinking of redownloading the software.
I think I’ve got a psn glitch that is fairly recent for me. The buggy invites is an older glitch, but now I can’t even manually go find the person who invites me’s friendly room. It just flat out doesn’t exist sometimes, when I KNOW it’s a real public room.
Fatboy you would probably know this: can you still noogie > slide > ground head butt vs chun/claw on hdr?
EDIT the important part about that I wanted to know was whether the slide still crosses them up by going under them.
Yes you can.
Yet, I know this sounds crazy but I find it harder to do to Chun. Not so much because of anything from Sim, but from Chun.
In ST if Chun used up kicks on reversal after the noogie and I slid > head-butt, she would whiff on the slide and fly into the air behind me. However in HDR, b/c of roll back or what ever, it seems that she turns the right way and hits me from behind.
Does this happen to anyone else?
^^Happens to me as well. Speaking of Chun Li. How do I fight her. I have come to the conclusion this is the worst fight for Sim next to maybe a well played Vega. I’m at the point I will fight Vega before Chun Li. I do not know what to do in this fight. If I do nothing and just exchange fireballs, she gets a meter and because she can somewhat jump at you at will I end up either getting thrown or hit with a super. Dhalsim may have strong range but Chun throw speed is insane. Pokes seem almost useless when you attacks from a far unless you are jumping back. And high level chun’s can space themselves so well when they jump at you that the upward yoga flame is useless. And if I do successfully block the jump in poke I get hit with chip damage from a lightning kick.
I hate this fight. Please help.

I found this recent video of Jason Cole at evo2k9 and it shows him beating chun li. Now I dont know if the Chun li was not good but Jason did have some interesting techniques he used against Chun Li. I will study the timings and execution of his moves.
Many of you dont know me but I am a perfectionist and I love having an answer for everything. There has to be something to this fight and I will hopefully figure it out.
Wow, Cole got those throws down really fast. I also noticed that the Chun player wasn’t really ticking a whole lot. The only chuns that I personally have problems with are the ones who throw a lot. Jason also threw a lot fireballs at close range which I don’t normally do.
I’m the opposite of you, I would rather fight Chun over Vega any time.
I need to get on PSN and maybe watch you play against Chun. I play a lot of chun’s on live and it is such a chore. Many of the ones I play are agressive and poke you so they can get the throw. They also chip you to death with the lightning kick. I watched a few Gian videos and he also was getting the throws off quickly like Cole. I seem to get thrown first. I guess I need to work on that part of my game.
