Dhalsim - YOGUH!

Am I the only sim player that has trouble vs Blanka?

He’s tough for sim, but not as bad as vega imo. And you do great against vega i think.
Anyway, I noticed that I do alot of drills against him, they stuff all of blankas balls at the right angles. Don’t go too meaty or they will block and bite you. Crouching lp works great for horizontal balls, just like ehonda torpedos.

Its the very aggressive blankas that are tough, that keep jumping in at the perfect time. you have to use your anti airs according to how far away they are, (back mk, back lp, back mp). You will most likely trade, but its okay. make sure to throw alot as well, and slide into electricity as soon as you see it.

What I think is hard about this matchup is the diversity of blanka players, some solely do specials, others only do normals and bites. You think you understand a blanka then another styled one comes in and wrecks you.

Hope something in there helps, I think you already know all of this tho.
Ps. We need to play again man.

The most important thing to remember about the Blanka matchup is that Dhalsim can always punish Horizontal Balls with far st.Fierce or far st.Forward, on hit or block. So don’t be afraid of getting hit by the H Balls. It’s Blanka’s jump ins and combos that are the real danger.

I always throw a lot of Fires and mix it up with Flames when Blanka’s full screen. When he’s closer at mid range, I switch between psychic Upflames, far st.Forward to catch his jump ins or Drills to catch slides or advancing attempts. If I get caught in a j.Short crossup mixup, I do Short slide under his next jump in and throw him. And also remember that Dhalsim has the same throw range with his Fierce throw as Blanka’s bite, so you can reversal throw his bite attempts. Tho in practice I have a very hard time reversal throwing Blankas for some reason. Probably cuz my timing sucks.

Well, thanks for the advice. I really have trouble against guys like djreign who has an awesome Blanka. I just can’t seem to penetrate his style of play.

According to NKI/T.Akiba Sims throw range is just a little bit shorter than Blanka. So, most of the time you can try to counter-throw, but if he’s at max range you’re screwed

I’m changing it to Gief. Only after getting crushed by him.

There are many occasions when Ken does his fierce dragon punch and when he lands he throws me. I usually try to nugie in this scenario but Ken often beats me to the throw somehow.

Does this happen to anyone else and if so, what do you typically do when Ken is descending from the dragon punch?

Never ever try to hit Ken once he lands. Hit him with anything in the air on his way down or just drill/slide away from him if you’re facing the wrong direction. He has no recovery on landing and most of the time you’ll eat something awful if you try to hit him once he lands.

Oh ok. I’ll try hitting him while he’s in the air. Btw, are you ever on the PSN? I’ve never seen you on there. I don’t blame you for playing on XBL instead.

I’ve played on PSN a couple of times. But it doesn’t play as well on there, so yeah, I’m usually on XBL.

Yeah HDR on PSN sucks compared to XBL.

What’s the best way to counter Kens who constantly do the jab uppercut?

Usually I use standing mk because its quick but it doesn’t do a whole lot of damage.

Believe it or not that is fine. You have to remember Sim is not a combo machine and is not going to wow you. I figure if a Ken is going to let me nickel and dime him to death than so be it. If you keep hitting him with that he will eventually stop because he will see he is not going anywhere or he will keep trying and eventually lose.

Also if you are somewhat close enough you can slide and throw/noogie.

Keep in mind a good Ken will not spam dragon punches all day. If they do you will have an easy victory.

Okay, I seriously want to get to the next level with my Sim. In doing so I have to take away from my mindset counter picking and bad matchups. With that I really need some good stategies against Chun Li. I can not stand her. It seems it doesnt matter who plays her I have respect them because of all the priority she has. It also seems anyone who mains Chun Li smiles when they play against a Sim because they know unless the Sim knows what he is doing it is going to be a walk in the park.

So again going back to my first two comments what do I do? I tried watching videos but I need to know what Sim is trying to do in dictating this match.

Hey Sweet Poison/Troyland, next time your on PSN we’ll play one of my friends who is a pretty good Chun. I have some strategies against her which have given me a pretty high success rate. Chun does give me a hard time but I can give her a really good fight. Vega, on the other hand, is my arch enemy.

When I fight Chun, I alternate between zoning and pressure. Also, 99% of Chun players throw a lot, so I’m always expecting a throw.

Your Sim is really good. I wish I was on your level but I’m not quite there yet. At least we can share some strategies though.

hey. i main dj but have been trying to pick up sim and play him. i just want to say thank you eggo. your videos on basically every matchup help a ton in understanding different matchups

why does Sim teleport back to the same spot sometimes? This happens to me a lot when I’m playing Gief and I’m in the corner.

If it’s a reversal teleport, it’ll put you back in the same spot. It’s a widely reported glitch. See the “Rebalancing ST Remix” thread.

Outside of that situation…I have no clue…unless you’re not doing it right. That’s my only guess.

Does Ken have an answer for Sim’s slide AA? KTM’s been busting my ken up with that slide, and it doesn’t seem like ken has an attack that hits low.

Is there simply a specific range it works at?

Coth_X you have to limit your jump ins on Sim. If you are jumping in you might want to try utilizing your hurricane so that it lands somewhat on Sim as opposed to in front of him. One of my strategies against Ken players is to get my distance so that I can poke safe after you have dragon punched, slide underneath a fireball is thrown and slide underneath your jumping attack if you jump towards me. This is a matchup where spacing is key for Sim. You need to be in close with relentless short attacks into dragon punches, and abusing your knee bash as Sim can not tech out of it. And in regards to your sig, Ryu doesnt need the the knee bash. His fireball is still godly and against Sim he can zone pretty well as he doesnt have a hard time getting in on Sim like Ken. But yes utilize your knee bash more. Just figure better ways to get in. I’m sure if you go to the Ken thread it has been talked about how to fight Sim.
