Characters with low stamina can usually deal higher damage and/or control the pacing of the match infinitely better. Akuma/Seth/Viper come to mind (though not Fuerte so much (unless he lands RSF) or Vega (he sucks )
Dhalsim is not quite Vega/Fuerte status, but he’s nowhere near Akuma/Seth/Viper status. His keep out game is not as broken as Capcom originally thought it would be.
Even 50+ health would be a big improvement.
Dhalsim still has runaway game. He has long-range attacks and a teleport. What do you suppose Capcom should do to balance this out if you want Dhalsim to be given average health? You think it’s okay for a character with these tools to be given average health? His keep away game may not be perfect, but it still works. They balanced this out by removing some health and stun.
Fuerte is not a heavy hitter or space controller, but he has insane mixup, so he’s given less health to balance this out. Gen doesn’t have Akuma-like strength, but his weird jumps and crossups somewhat warrant his reduction in health. There are more reasons for characters being given less health. Also, I was under the impression that Vega had average health.
You sure you’re asking for more health for balance reasons and not selfish ones? Sorry, but all these people starting buff threads value their own wants over balance.
lol, peeps are just scared of Sabin now that he’s coming back from the hyperbolic SF time chamber that is the Japanese arcade scene.
j/k
Seriously though, nothing that Sabin suggested would unbalance Dhalsim or change how he’s “meant” to be used. Either 50 more health or changing it so that characters start taking less damage at 500 health across the board instead of at half health would go a long way to keep him from being easily random’d out because of a single mistake. Something to deal with Viper destroying him would be nice as well, but uniquely bad matchups aren’t anything new to SF.
Man… I don’t think I’d be comfortable with that. Maybe make him better in other ways but everyone knows Sim isn’t supposed to be an average stamina character.
He’s so top tier, I hate constantly running into scrubs online who spam the crap out of sim just because he wins so many tournaments. Every time I go to local gatherings I’m always like WHY ARE THE SO MANY SIM PLAYERS THIS IS NO FUN
Speaking of, b.rh cancelable? yay or nay?
dude lol the way you talk about him, its like hes remotely close to top tier…lol hes not even close by a longshot. Vega has 1000 health but loses health when he loses his mask (hella dumb).
Fuerte’s mixup isnt “insane”, every time you guess right he does like 10% damage unless you get RSF or ultra…which isnt easy depending on character. (which is like, most of them…that’s why there are no fuerte players.)
Even with the low stamina/guts rating to balance him out, it doesnt really work out for him. Hence why he’s low tier and doesnt really win tourneys consistently (outside of a handful of char specialists who play with him, compared to the legions of sagats, goukis, zangief, ryu players). and its not like im asking for crazy tweaks to him compared to top tier char threads. I don’t think I can reiterate this to you enough: He is bottom 4 character in the game.
Playing devils advocate, are you sure you don’t want to see him buffed because you lose to him in the original sf4? I can’t see anyone who wouldnt be against sim getting some major buffs unless they get owned hard by him in the first place.
konkrete: rofl that cracked me the fuck up. but yeah b. rh cancellable…nah that would be too much.
i don’t play this guy because of this… so maybe they can improve on it…?
1… float in the air like a paper…
2… game start, Zangief lariat, lariat, lariat… Dhalsim is dead…
3… ultra is so weak… but i like how there’s time for you to throw your opponent into the fire…
4… doesn’t have a wakeup move…
This is SFIV not ST/A3 Drills aren’t as powerful in game where someone already has a better version of drills (Rufus) with more mixup than Sim could HOPE to have. Other than drill instant overhead j. FP … which some characters can punish … I forget as i don’t use them if they hit high make them hit mid.
Drills being faster would Not be too much but instead give him some options. I think though they should have fast Vertical speed but not as fast horizontal speed. So he doesn’t have a MUCH improved runaway game. I like how Sim has to control space whereas seth can just run like a bitch.
If throws are improved A Drill aggro game with good damaged throws would give him a decent offense against Characters that can’t punish instant overhead j. FP. Up throw damage. All without making the shoto matchups worse. If you want to BALANCE a game you can’t just increase his current strengths (zoning till one of the two die) as than those that have problems are going to have even more problem and you inherent weaknesses aren’t going to be fixed.
Upflame is intended as a fast anti-air … not a reversal … so i’m confused by what you mean (doesn’t work as intended). I think it should have some upper body invincibility (hit box in his feet only) though to help with rufus retardedness.
whatever his HCB+P move is needs a speed increase and FP version should be plus on block like in old ST still old slow ass startup though.
50 stun increase also he does die to easily, but that’s assuming he still can’t combo his ultra.
Sim should have to pay if someone get’s close. He always has and now he has ok reversals (ultra/super) so it’s not like he’s defenseless. Wake-up teleport is pretty bad but improving it to seth or Gouki quality would just be stupid … he’d be top tier if he had gouki’s teleport which needs a nerf (like 2 frame more recovery).
Sorry I have to use this card, but maybe if you learned how to use your character better, you wouldn’t be asking for such ridiculous buffs. I’ve seen some great dhalsims out there, and they can handle themselves well because of the time and effort they put into learning the character and it’s matchups. Just because a character is harder to win with, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. I don’t know who you are, but get to learning that character. Dhalsim’s diminished health because of his keep away game is reasonable and balanced. Dhalsim may not be top fucking tier but he is still a good character. If you can’t handle using this character and the shortcomings it comes with, or you don’t want to learn more effective techniques, maybe you should move onto another character.
This isn’t coming from somebody who uses Sagat/Ryu all day, but one who mains Guile. Guile has a lot of shortcomings, but you don’t see me going into the Guile improvement thread asking for 200+ stamina, flashkick hitting on 0 frame, and unblockable super/ultras. I know your claims aren’t as ridiculous as those, but you get my point. Some of your wishes are reasonable and almost mandatory, but there are some that are just selfish, senseless, and don’t take balance into consideration. And no, I hardly lose to Dhalsim, but that would be the Dhalsim player’s fault, not the character.
If all that’s not the case, and you are great with Dhalsim and have used him with success, why exactly do you need so many buffs, especially that Stamina+ ? If you’ve seen for yourself the potential Dhalsim has, why exactly do you want him to be given even more stamina? Saying that Dhalsim is towards the bottom of the tier list doesn’t mean shit when this game actually has decent to good balance. Dhalsim is still a good character, despite your claim that low tier = worthless, and adding this many buffs would just be ridiculous. Keep balance in mind is all I’m saying. Not every character needs to be buffed to top/S tier for them to be used effectively.
