Dhalsim improvement thread

Lol yea right like theyre gonna give him regular health. Dude is a SMALL INDIAN MAN WITH HIS BONES STICKING OUT. Besides once you get in it on Dhalsim should be in your favor… with full health those obnoxious out-of-the-corner teleports become reliably good…he should get the other close up stuff instead.

Im not sure I would change too much with sim. If he received +100 to base life, he would be the best player in the game. It won’t happen, forget about it. 50 max and probably none. More resistant to stun would be nice. Better chip damage on ultra/super would be good. better drill maybe? IDK, he is already a really well designed character, you add too much and he will be too dominant. There is a reason he has low health, the moves at his disposal are TOP NOTCH. besides his stretch advantage, he has a good fireball, great teleport, very useable and versatile ultra, some of the best anti-airs, great range on fa. I don’t think we sim players can ask or expect much of a buff.

This might make his game a little too good, but it would stop instant ultras that sometimes happen with a badly timed combo: An air-to-ground teleport. It would help his poking game with neutral jumps (which is unheard of with sim) and also let him return to the ground in a jiffy is he needed to.

I’m cool with improving Dhalsim’s tools, especially EX Yoga Blast, but I dunno so much about standard life. Getting in on Dhalsim at all is already a ridiculous mini-game in itself; some more stun resistance could be in order, but standard life may push it a bit far in how much work your typical player needs to do to beat him.

Lol, that’s utter nonesense. If he got 100 added, he would maybe make it to upper B tier at best.

  • Yoga fire should be able to combo upclose
  • b+lp should be awesome like A2
  • Make drills good again, I shouldn’t have to hit their toenail to get frame advantage
  • Yoga flame has always been great tool except in here a CvS2, make it like ST/ Alpha series again

That’s all I can think of, but I’m not a SF4 Sim player.

ranix throws scare me if they have something invincible to mix it up with.
ex tatsu/throw mixup will scare any sim player.

im not saying he doesnt have advantage on shotos, but its not a huge advantage like saying 6-4. its barely any at all when i play daigo he makes it feel like 5/5 4.5/5.5 ryu at times but it just might be cause of his player skill.

other than shotos he has 0 matchups where hes actually at advantage.

getting in on sim? you make it sound like i asked for higher priority on his normals (which sounds like what youre suggesting.) if he actually gets high priority on his normals, he would be damn near close to top tier. all i ask is for some stun/health resistance up close along with decent cancellable normals. i dont think this is out of the question.

his moves are top notch? really? last i checked his “top notch moves” werent all that top since the rick reward on them utterly blow.

i can list like a crapload of moves that are better than sims. notably anyone who’s in S/A tier has a infinitely better moveset than he does. you chose to highlight the things that only make him decent without mentioning his weaknesses.

what exactly do you mean by typical player? if youre talking casual player, they wouldnt be able to beat sim anyway.

honestly, the only naysayers i really see generally are people a) that had trouble with sim in the first place (ranix) or people that lost to sim in the original game and are scared of him get any better i mean god forbid hes mid tier or even B tier in the next game :looney:

Character model redesign. Out of all the characters, he should be the least beefy. Actually, he should have no beef on his body at all.

ONE blockstring would be nice…nothing major.

The one thing I absolutely agree with in this thread is more linkable/cancelable normals. Mainly making short slide xx yoga flame a true combo, but maybe also b.short to b.forward, even if it’s just a 1-2 frame would be great.

At the very least, I think his EX moves need a buff, cause they’re weak as hell and trade hits most of the time (usually unfavorable since they’re weak). The only thing I really use EX meter for is occasionally EX yoga fire when it comes down to low health and everything else, I always save it for Inferno. Think more health would work too (50 or 100 more health). Maybe improve the speed of his drill moves and it’s usefulness.

Yea, the more I think about it, I’d really like faster, more frame advantaged drills. I mean, I understand Capcom might not want to go down that road because of the whole ST thing… but I think drills would open up new dimensions to the up-close game. As they are now, you can see the potential in them, but they’re just too slow and difficult to use (you have to hit very, very, VERY low if you want to link anything afterwards).

I’d love to see something around faster FADC letting your string together 2 hit juggle combos at range… not sure if it would work, but might give depth to the standard zoning / aa game

I don’t think he should be buffed in close, its more fun to try and avoid that in the first place and try to escape when you’re stuck in that situation

I’ve played Chari and Mizoteru. This matchup is definitely not “advantage sim.” At best it’s 5-5.

You have to stand your ground 90% of the time, teleports are basically useless, cant jump etc. Once you get knocked down, Blanka can literally mix you up with ambiguous hop/empty jump setups which all lead to other knockdowns. Teleports only lead to u getting slid again and put in the same scenario. offensive teleports only get ex blankaballed if done meaty or stand rh’ed.

Pretty much, western blankas arent at that level yet (i used to think the same way as you…never had any problems with blanka.)

yetihk: i dont think anyone is asking for that. sims priority is fine as is. just give him the things i mentioned and i think he would be more viable as a character.

damn guys, why don’t we just bump up every low health character’s stamina to 1000?

I agree on making drills faster. An increase in speed won’t automatically make them ST-like. As they are right now, using them is just asking to get reversaled. Yoga flame is also too slow, and needs to be fixed.
